I like the 2 formulas, but I think ME3 did it totally right by opting for only cooperative mp. I think it ties nicely to the notion of fighting a war together as a team. The mp community is not toxic nor intolerant to newbies. I mean, the number of guidelines is fantastic. People talking about different builds and strategies for each map and faction... It was possibly the best MP experience I ever had, and without a doubt the best community.
Someone complained that Asari and Batarians played like humans simply because the body model was similar. Well, that´s a very superficial analysis. There´s one class for Asari and one for Quarian that allow you to trigger biotic explosions by surrounding yourself with a biotic field and then detonating it using a projectile. This is vanguard mentality of high-risk compensated with high-reward taken to the extreme. It´s very different from what we experience in single-play. Same thing goes for a Vorcha or the Geth Trooper with a flamer. Or the totally different physics and angle of controlling a Volus. Or the mobile base called Geth Juggernaut. Or the poisonous female Turian.
I hope someday EA will allow ME3MP to be controlled by an independent server instead of being shutdown. It´s a precious gem that few people knew about and were able to appreciate.
I know that some people will never like it and will always defend the notion that the game should remain sp only (I´m glad I don´t share this view anymore). But to say that the basic human classes and all the others, including the aliens play the same way is simply not true. It springs either from ignorance (having played very briefly the game or only during the demo days or soon after the release) or pure intellectual dishonesty.
