Why would there be an american accent at all? The Humans I'm familiar with in DA:O and DA2 had very particular accents. The over the top french accent make smore sense to go along with the british accent. I'm fairly sure the only american accent I remember from DA:O or DA2 came from the Dwarves. Why would that be an option for anyone but Dwarves? Seems a waste to have an accent for just Dwarves, and odd for what's been the Dwarven accent to be available to something like a Human.

Honestly, all this says to me, is what I've been saying all along. Humans should have remained the only playable race after DA2. It just makes more sense for purposes of resource distribution and consistency of various elements - such as accent.

Qunari and Dwarves both have American accents in DAO/DA2. It does actually make sense to have that as an option for those races, while having an English VA for Human and Elves. *shrug* It's not perfect and certainly won't make everyone happy, but I personally think it's pretty awesome they are offering us 2 voices per gender to choose from for our Inquisitors. They could have just given us 1 female and 1 male like in DA2. I'm happy. ^_^

I can see how you feel that way, but I still disagree with the decision. I'd much rather we axe the non-Human races and bring in a French accent to . . . accent . . . the British accent choice.

French is less weird? :P

Well I'm stoked about the two options.

Well France and England were 2 "middle age european" countries, you know Jeanne d'Arc etc so no it's not weird. But USA + middle age +  knights and swords now THIS IS weird :alien: =]

Well maybe it's not weird for you to play a DA game with a US accent if you re american or canadian and you speak US english everyday, but for an European it's just too much to mix medieval and US voices together lol.

It's like playing a Western game (by western I mean desperado, Billy the kid etc) with japanese or french voices

This is why I m happy to play the French version with French voices, it's sooooo stupid to have a game set in middle age and to hear an American US accent, it's just too weird.

You can't classify something as taking place in the "Middle Ages" if it isn't in our world (Earth). This is Thedas in the Age of Dragon, not Western Europe circa. 1055 AD. And it definitely isn't a history simulator.

There were plenty of Chinese and Japanese people in the West, so not that strange.

So...you would rather take away other player's choices as to which race they can play (dwarf, elf and qunari) to accommodate your wish for a specific accent for the human PC?

Yeah I agree with this.

If DA set out to be very similar to the actual Middle Ages, the game would be unrecognizably different.

The Qunari had what I guess were sort of American accents, but they all sounded to me like they were speaking it awkwardly, like it wasn't there first language, which is what I think they were going for.

Wynne, Genetivi and Viveka all had American accents even though they presumably should have sounded English, so I guess there is precedent for the occasional American sounding human.

Indeed. Orlais, for one, just wouldn't be.

I wanted a French accent. The most obnoxious, overblown one they could find.

Lol. Because everyone knows there were only white people and Natives in the Old West.

Slavery? Massive influx of Chinese into California during the Gold Rush? What?

Except the only reason we're getting multiple voices for the PC in the first place is that BioWare didn't think having the same voice for all four races would work. If there was a human-only protagonist as in DA2, I have no doubt that the voicing would be handled the same way and we wouldn't have any choice at all.

Well I kinda wanted a French accent, which Orlesian people have.

If possible, I'd play a Dalish elf talking elven with a french accent. That would be interesting to see.

The lack of french accent is disturbing.

I mean, it's set in Orlais, it would make sense to have a french accent for the main character.

The VA in the environment trailer? Whoever it is, it's the same as the PAX Prime demo's Inquisitor voice.

It sounds a heck of a lot like Kenway from AC IV to me.

How do we know what makes sense for the Inquisitor if we don't know who the Inquisitor is yet?  For all we know, the Inquisitor could be from Ferelden.

Jennifer Tilly in whatever accent or language she wants. Sweet, maker. Traynor feels bad about EDI? She got nothing on the things I'd do to that woman's voice.

This is a bit of speculation on my part, but the Human Inquisitor's surname is Trevelyan.  According to Wikipedia, that's a Cornish name,  So it's probably a safe assumption that the Human Inquisitor will be from Ferelden or of Ferelden decent.

Aside from the fact that the game is taking place in a fantasy setting and not on earth in the middle ages, it may also be worth pointing out that the english or british as you prefer accents of that time period bear almost no resemblance to the accents today.  At one point both americans and brits spoke exactly the same, and the languages developed slightly differently when they separated,  I am no expert so the information is second hand, but I have been told that american english has deviated from its original sound less then british english has.

Only Humans in DA:O had Brittish accents and only Humans and Fenris+Varania had Brittish accents in DA2. I HATE playing human in a game with other species. To me it's boring and being forced into it is like being on the outside looking in at something awesome(race choices) but never getting to participate. Being forced to be human was one of DA2's big downfalls to me and if DA:I had forced us again to be human only I probably would have skipped the game.

No. General American is a more phonologically conservative dialect of English than most forms of British English are.
