Well France and England were 2 "middle age european" countries, you know Jeanne d'Arc etc so no it's not weird. But USA + middle age +  knights and swords now THIS IS weird

 

Well maybe it's not weird for you to play a DA game with a US accent if you re american or canadian and you speak US english everyday, but for an European it's just too much to mix medieval and US voices together lol.

 

It's like playing a Western game (by western I mean desperado, Billy the kid etc) with japanese or french voices

As a born and bred Londoner I say this about the cockney option NO! NO! NO!

Unless of course Bioware can somehow get Ray Wintsone or Jason Stratham  I've had enuff of Americans or Posh shakespearean actors doing really bad cockney accents

Yeaaaaaaah... the british option in Saint's Row is not cockney. Cockney would require subtitles. Even for true Brits. ((cockney is... well... Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels has a few speaking cockney... but... think River in Firefly when she goes "git yer chevy chase out of here" with Badger))

American English is rhotic, while British English is not. Strangely enough, British English apparently also used to also be rhotic, so modern American English is actually closer to what British English used to sound like a few hundred years ago before the dialects diverged.

honestly when it comes to "American accent" there really is none, a show showed that there are at least 6 general english accents with plenty of sub accents.

 

Cause there is a Texain accent is different than a "southern" accent. Then you have accents like in the "new england" between Main and New York, then you have New Yorkers which have there own unique spin. Then you have the westeren states. So saying "americain" accent to me is sort of "Meh, I have to wait till someone shows me the voice"

 

Also I'm an American and depending on the part of England the accent is from, I may be picking the British accent

 

You know what they really need... a main protag that uses a Scottish accent... or Irish

Yes and no Cockney comes from the term Cockeren old english for for **** eggs and a derogatory term for anyone who came from the Greatest City in the World (London fyi) used by the rest of England during Chaucer's time  Our Modern concept of Cockneys with all the Lock stock rhyming Slang came obviously a lot later so I guess we could say  that the SR3 and 4 accent is more Mockney

Isn't Claudia Black's accent a mix of australian/british? i remember hearing about the cast of Farscape being unsure about what accent to use during filming because of it.

While I find the debate about accents and their origins interesting I am simply happy to have a voice choice for my Inquisitor.

I'm glad they're experimenting with pitch shifting because having a Qunari inquistor sound the same as a scrawny Dalish inquisitor would be odd.

My link is correct, and the other user is mistaken, it appears. Thedas has several languages, although it would appear that Ferelden, the Free Marches, and perhaps Nevarra all speak the common tongue (English).

Ehhh... The voice in that video clip kinda sounds like he's forcing himself to speak in an accent and tone he's not good with.
It sounds unnatural.

My thoughts exactly, though I like the actor and he seemed good for the most part, there were certain parts where he did seem to be forcing the accent. Let's hope it was only due to time constraints trying to get this trailer out

So long as it's a good VA I am really not fussed about what their accent is.

I honestly don't care much for accents, as English is not my first language and I'm not good at telling the differences D: The only accents I could clearly hear as "different" were those of Orlesian and Antivan characters, for they were the strongest ones. Soooo... I guess I'd be more curious about voice/tone differences than accents themselves

For me it isn't so much about the accent, but the tone of the voice and the voice acting itself.

I have played games where the voice of the protagonist is so flat, I just find the character dull.

So as @QueenPurpleScrap said, just having a choice is good.
