Kind of like how it was optional with the Warden. Dwarves have American accents, alienage elves generally have American accents, Dalish have Irish accents, and Orlesians have French accents. Just depends on where they're from.

So this makes me wonder, and forgive me if it was discussed earlier, but:

Do we think we can start speculating about origins of the various Inquisitors based on the accent options?

I think the accents can be selected independently of the race/class selection of the characters.  That being said, I think the only things that are known definitely is that Elves with be Dailish and Qunari will be Vashtoth.

Sorry, let me clarify what I meant:

So, we can assume that our Inquisitor is not likely to be an Orlesian because we can't have an Orlesian accent, right?  So is there anything that we can assume based on accents?

This just in: Baldrick confirmed for Inquisitor VA

If this  is true "Get in my Son" if this is false  we should all come up with a cunning plan to get Sir Tony Robinson in this game

I'm hoping for "Roit guvner lets all go and bloody  well smash those red templars, pip pip tallyho!"  for the british one and "Ya'll think we outta mosey on over and blast the hell outta them thar red templars" for the american one.

Can't really expect them to get voice actors for multiple accents. It would get too costly then.

Still worst news about Dragon Age: Inquisition.  :crying:

Not to sound snide but if you alwere hoping to sound french for Orlais could just go into settings and change the language and just have subtitles on.

That's actually a pretty cool idea.  It would add some layers to roleplaying for sure.  I'm just not sure I could listen to another VA do Varric though.

I imagine they are dropping the Welsh/Irish accent for the Dalish, or limiting it to certain regions, given the elven Inquisitor.

You know, British and American accents kind of have a lot of subsets. They could technically sound almost identical and still be American and British, depending on where the accent is from.

Though, there would be some joy in oppressing elves with a American southerner accent.

Wouldn't that make every character speak in French though?  Unless you are going to go in and change it back every time the Inquisitor speaks.....

My guess would be they just aren't going to explain it.

Well there will a pitch slide for the voice, so we all will have more of "our" character than before.

hehehe so we can have a qunari who sounds like a mouse!

(what is the english word for when a boy gets a deeper voice in puberty?)

They had it in Mass Effect 3 to change the language. I see no reason they can't have it here.

"British" is kinda broad...

Has anything more "specific" been said?

No moreso than "American".

I hope at least one of the accents isn't a neutral american accent. It feels like every character I play in a video game has an American accent. Any NPC that is supposed to be exotic has a different accent so it ends up making me feel like the american accent is the "normal" accent

I read an interested critic on this a couple of years ago

That said - ultimately as long as the VA is good then it doesn't really matter. I just wish more games would use VA's with different accents for the main character.

I would love to play a human with an American accent.  I'm really tired of everyone in a fantasy setting like this having an English accent (though I do like them).  I really would've liked a French accent for this game but....

As would I.

It would have been cool to play an Orlesian character this time around.

The assumption that 'British' and 'English' are synonymous is always a bit awkward though, since Wales and Scotland are countries themselves, not just regions in England.

I see some people are calling for an American accent for the dwarf and qunari pcs, but that means we'd get another deep voice for mquisitor. I'd rather have a larger range in tone.

I certainly wouldn't have minded an Orlesian option, being French myself. But the chances of that do seem fairly low...

I don't think we have an actual word for that. We usually say the voice "dropped" (or that his "balls dropped" if you wanna be all vulgar and colloquial) were I live.

It's a shame there are only two accents. I really wanted to be an Orlesian qunari.

Gonna play as a Dalish with an American accent, DA:O style.

Sticking it to the man. Suck on it DA2 and your "new and improved" Irish/Welsh Dalish accents.
