I wanted a French accent. The most obnoxious, overblown one they could find.

This was what I expected first from this game. I mean, this is an orlais based game, and by all means, bioware is canadian, so I think it won't be difficult to find a english VA wich have a french accent?

Oh well, I still think that british accent is sexy though :P

I'm never gonna get to play an Orlesian in Dragon Age am I? ):

Stupid Ferelden favoritism.

It is totally bugging me trying to figure out the VA in the trailer, by the way. It sounds so familiar.

I'm just grateful we get any variety in this matter.

I wonder what accent the accents will be though?

England has many accents as does the US.

I'd love to see a game that finally gave us a good Cajun or Creole accent.

The Cajun accent is hardly in any games, heck I don't even know of any that has a good one aside from the "fake" Cajun accent that Tim Curry tried to do for Gabriel Knight.

I'm almost 100% positive Gaider put the kibosh on any previous BW VAs doing the trailer voiceovers.

I guessing the guy we've heard in the most recent trailer would be the British VA in which case, I'm guessing the American VA is gonna be...Nolan North calling it now :)

Now I am obligated to do at least one mage playthrough which involves lightning spells, copious snark and threats to feed enemies to his bog unicorn..

so you don't all sound like Crockadile Dundee.

Heck, no. His accent was outback, and somewhat forced. If they did do it don't hire an actor who has been in america too long, because they lose the accent AKA Miranda.

Do we yet know the background of the human Inquisitor? It would be kinda boring to be anther Ferelden with a bland Southern English accent (and before anyone starts, I'm English with a Southern English accent...)

Either way, I'm 90% certain first play will probably be a Qunari, so I'll probably give him the American accent, unless the voice actor is rrrrrrreaalllly bad.

I suppose that makes sense. The English/Brit voice would be for human and elves. With the American VO for Qunari and Dwarf. That's what I would do, anyway.

Not quite...I think it was also said that you get to choose which voice you want for your character.

I still want Henry Cavill to be the British VO. His voice just...mmm...so good. -_-

...well this is going to be hard. I'm spanish and have been studying english since I was 3, hell I'm doing the english philology major at the university. Point is that sicne my first character is a self insertion what the hell am I going to pick? I have a kind of american accent because it's easier to pronounce to me (mother has an r at the end, and I like to pronounce it), but since pretty mmuch the only thing they teach in spain is british, well, I can't help but use british variations on words and even their pronounciation. Argh!

*sigh* I guess I'll just spend five to ten minutes hearing the voicesamples until I choose one at random, unless they're race specific like some have sugested, that would make my life a lot easier.

I honestly don't know a single person who actually sounds like crocodile dundee... except maybe crocodile dundee...

Australia is extremely multi-cultural with people ranging from multiple ethnicity's. These can include Irish, British, Asians, Greeks, Indians as well as Sudanese. Due to this our accents tend to vary. We can put on the fake air but you'd honestly have to meet people who's parents were actually born in Austraya to have the accent most would think of (That and be born on a farm).

I believe they said the American accent would be most like the Midwestern accent.

I can already predict that the American accent will have a lower monotonous inflection so it could fit both Qunari and Dwarf. For the people who'd want an Orlesian accent, just stop your complaining. It would be the least used voice, the fact there'd be 2 voices to choose from per gender is fantastic and never been done in any full voiced RPG that I know of.

hahaha I've got to ask, where does the person who teaches you British English come from? I'm British, and pronounce mother with a 'r' at the end (and like it that way, and in no way sound American lol, just stereotypical 'BBC' RP southern English accent) there's a ton of different accents from England let alone the rest of Britain.

Anyway, I hope that we do get voice samples of the Brit and American voice overs, I don't want to be playing the game for about half hour, create anther character with the other accent, play for anther half hour only to find I hate it and switch back to the other accent, just want to get on and play the game!

Of course that is if we get to choose the accents ourselves, and its not just race specific. It seems like we can choose, which is pretty amazing really, like Shaftell said, I don't remember the last time I've seen this for a complete voice over, not like in DA:O or Elder Scrolls Online were you can choose what voice your character grunts in.

I'd be very happy with Gemma Arterton for FemInq.  She can do the accents and has experience in the genre.

They will have sound bites during character creation to help you pick. Alternatively if you cannot wait:

Listen to the early PAX video where the Male Inq orders his guys around. The deep BigMcLargeHuge voice is the 'american accent' one. Now listen to the newer trailers; you'll hear the british voiceover. Sadly if you want to hear FemInq you're currently out of luck, hope they fix this.

I'm going with the american accent myself, because so far i don't much care for how the how the english/british voice sounds (too melodramatic)... probably will be the opposite for FemInq, though.

It wasn't. (I actually don't ever recall Bioware ever using a placeholder voice for the protagonist in any game, even very early SWTOR had their voice actors performing early) The confusion arose because it was the first voice heard, and was back before they announced there would be multiple voices. (though it was hinted at, it was mostly ignored as there was still a BIOFAIL atmosphere on the social forums)

Interestingly the initial voice's lack of accent made many people speculate about his origin. Kinda glad they cleared it up. YOU PICK! woohoo... surprised people are complaining about being given a choice here, to be honest...

Okay. I can't hear the voice very well in the video, but I absolutely see how it would fit for both a qunari (yay!) and a dwarf( yay for those who play dwarves).

People always seem to find something to complain about haha. Glad we'll be able to choose. It's a neat approach, and it allows us to pick whatever voice actor or accent we prefer.

Looking forward to having an Inquisitor with an American accent, personally. It's just another detail that allows people to personalize the PC a little more.

Hmm I don't see the trailer guys voice suiting my elf mage but i can't imagine him with an american accent either. I hope they manage to do a pitch thing and that it's done well, but if not I am sure I can live with it.
