Hmm I don't see the trailer guys voice suiting my elf mage but i can't imagine him with an american accent either. I hope they manage to do a pitch thing and that it's done well, but if not I am sure I can live with it.

The English VO is a bit too deep for the kinds of characters I prefer to play.

surprised people are complaining about being given a choice here, to be honest...

I honestly don't know a single person who actually sounds like crocodile dundee... except maybe crocodile dundee...

Australia is extremely multi-cultural with people ranging from multiple ethnicity's. These can include Irish, British, Asians, Greeks, Indians as well as Sudanese. Due to this our accents tend to vary. We can put on the fake air but you'd honestly have to meet people who's parents were actually born in Austraya to have the accent most would think of (That and be born on a farm).

Multicultural, I don't call it that; because it is not working.

Exactly how I feel tbh. it would work for other Inquisitors I may make but not the one I am planning for my first playthrough.

I remember someone at Bioware saying they may look into pitch modulation, but no promises.

I don't understand? The word? or its entire definition?

"British" is kinda broad...

Has anything more "specific" been said?

I'm assuming it's English as is typical of humans in Thedas.

Heck, no. His accent was outback, and somewhat forced. If they did do it don't hire an actor who has been in america too long, because they lose the accent AKA Miranda.

i would love one of the Free Marches cities we have had no contact with to be Full of every variant of the Austrian Accent.

Midwest US accent you say?

Never heard one of those.

Still, I hope the English one is a southern English accent. Anywhere else just makes it sound incomprehensible.

I wonder if we could get an Elmer Fudd accent...

I would squeal little girly squeals if Grey DeLisle was one of our voice options. She'd make such a perfect female qunari voice.

Ehhh... save Grey DeLisle for the Velanna cameo. My money's on Laura Bailey.

But I'm fine with that because I'll be using it for the qunari. It needs to be deep.

American voice at 6:20

English voice at 0:43

Neither one are placeholders. The American one sounds deeper imo, perfect for dwarves qunari and male_human_fighter_01.

I'm pretty sure those are both the same English voice.

I may be crazy but those were the same voices, the voice heard in the demo is the sounded english and while it was deeper, i think it was the echo effect due to it being in a large room. I think they're the same

It could be the echo on the PAX voice... but it doesn't sound the same to me, though they do sound similar.

Well, it's good we have a choice but I think their issue is voices making sense with the race. Like an male Elf having the British voice may sound off.

hahaha I've got to ask, where does the person who teaches you British English come from? I'm British, and pronounce mother with a 'r' at the end (and like it that way, and in no way sound American lol, just stereotypical 'BBC' RP southern English accent) there's a ton of different accents from England let alone the rest of Britain.

*snip*

Where did they come from? Spain, all of them trying to imitate and force onto us that BBC accent. I mean it's hilarious (I decide to laugh at it) that I have linguistic or even english language history classes telling us all about the different accents, how everybody has their own, the differences and then in english class it's all about that BBC accent. It's even more fun when they tell you about studies saying that the BBC accent is dying and that outside the Queen herself or some people in the BBC practically no one speaks it.

So after many years you end up having a weird accent that no one properly place :)

Or it might sound perfectly normal. And we'll get used to it.

It's worse when you move. I learned English in Europe as a child but my family moved to NA when I was very young, so I have a weird accent that no one can place. Half the English I learned was from the same schoolteachers you're talking about, and the other half was from 80s American TV shows (like the A-Team! or Thundarr, the Barbarian). A lot of the time people here think I'm American, because my English inflection has mostly faded away, but I never picked up Canadian pronunciations.

Ahhhh right I see why your having issues with 'r' haha. I find it odd (and alarming) that their imitating you into one of the 'BBC' accents, I've met and work with a lot of Europeans, from Portugal to Poland, and they all speak with accents of their nationality, you can hear it straight off the bat, maybe its a Spanish thing.

Always interested to hear what foreign teachers say about English (always good for a few laughs). I've a southern RP accent (so its softer then the High RP accent of the nobles) so does most of the English that I know. I find it ironic that their teaching you that, as one of the complaints that pops up now and again from Northern England is that their losing their indigenous accents, that its being watered down by the BBC and London, a throwback from TV and the internet, that people (especially younger generations) are starting to speak with the same soft 'BBC' RP accent...

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. If BioWare could do a pitch moderation for the voices it would be really useful, for the males more then females, as I would want my Qunari or Dwarf Inquisitor to have a deep voice which would seem a bit odd on a Elf, I would prefer a lighter one, and vice versa. Would be useful, but I don't see them doing it.
