Agreed. I felt Hale was overemotive in some sceens and her voice just...I hate her femshep voice. Which is a shame because I loved her in KOTOR and MG but her ME voice had me going "Ehh....." but I'm with you on the wanting to punch emotion. (Freaking female Inq man...it didn't help that I played the much much better female warrior before doing it.) I managed to truck though that for Revel's romance (TWICE though the second time was me mostly doing FPs and WZs so I didn't hear her voice that often other than death moans XD) And yeah I know you're feeling I don't even think I managed to get off Eden Prime. I got up to Ashley and went "I can't take this voice anymore." Same thing happened right after speaking to Tali in ME2. I know better than to even try it in ME3 XD

But it's not fun and it feels like work and it's for like...what? 10 to 15 minutes of content? Not worth it. Not even remotely.

I know your pain. *pats* there there.

I personally considered the female Inquisitor to be vastly better than the female warrior, though I didn't get very far as a warrior. Unfortunately, I detested Andronikos and was wholly unwilling to play as a male to go for Ashara, despite liking her a lot. But TOR was overall... not very good.

I don't really see how gender restrictions for romances increases replayability. Bioware games still don't allow polygamy, so you'd have to start another playthrough anyway in order to experience a different romance. Whether you do so as a male or female character isn't particularly relevant to that, although I do see your point.

For me it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth and decreases the chance of me replaying the game by about 75,4682 % (no I did not pull that number outta my ass what are you talking about) if I'm forced to play as a guy. It's no fun. :crying:

Hmm, my experience concerning replayability is this: When I played as a female in DA:O (which I did in almost all of my playthroughs) I always saw parts of the Alistar, Leliana and Zevran romances. Depending on the character I roleplayed I saw like one or two of them (almost) to the end in one playthrough and always had the Initiation dialogues. I knew those romances, I had done them all, they were starting to get old. Also I still needed the achievement for romancing Morrigan, so I decided to play a male mage (both things that I usually don't do). And everything about that romance felt new and interesting to me. I loved it and that DA:O playthrough actually made me play my first male Hawke.

There it was the same: I usually play straight characters, so I had never done the Isabella and Merril romances until the end, especially not Merril's. I basically created the same situation as in DA:O even with the characters being playersexual and I had a blast playing my first dudebro Hawke and my first bloodmage and my first Merril romance all in once. That's why set sexualities (or me only playing straight) increase replayability for me - they make me try out new things, when I actually thought I had already seen all the interesting things. Then I enjoy these replays much more than all the others and make them my canon playthroughs. ^^'

I didn't think of it your way, when you really don't want to play as a male character that 2/2 system probably sucks. I was always just hesitant about it and the restricted romances gave me a reason to finally try it and find out that I liked the guys just as much as the gals. :P

I love how Traynor is always pointed out when there is a topic about this. Like, you know, the only female romance not available to straight male Shepards? Even though they still had a WIDE RANGE of options? Like Jack, Ashley, Miranda, Tali, Liara... meanwhile lesbian female Shepards could only get one of those, even though I'm sure many would have wanted to have even only half of the amount of options you had, and gay male shepards had to wait 3(!!!!) games before getting their first romance and still ended up getting one and a half and robbed of some that where even fully voiced over (like thane's, kaidan's and garrus').

But no, dude, I don't want every character to be bisexual (playersexual is such a disgusting word I hate whoever coined it) because I like that not every girl wants to be in my pants!!

So basically all romances not being available for both genders up until now has only hurt homosexual players and yet it's all the straight people who seem to be hellbent against it and I find that oh so ironic. It gets to be even more ironic when you realize that if everyone was bi it would have in no way whatsoever anything to do with the way you will play the game (unless you're homophobic, but that's your problem and you might want to fix that).

You can read as much vitriol as you want in this post, you'd probably be correct.

Because every day, when I wake up, I ask myself "What can I do to ****** off the most amount of people, and still demand my own preferences be put in?"

You know, that would actually explain a lot about various people on this forum...

To each their own :3

Male Inq is so much more fun to me. His snarky/funny lines are actually snarky/funny where's the females often falls flat. LS male Inq is hilarious. Especially if pick the trolliest options. "Oh boy!" LOL And ugh don't get me started on Ashara.

Actually Ashara is a good example of how utterly annoying making differences based off genders can be. She disliked pretty much any gift you got her as a female. I don't see why ovaries had her dislike my gifts more. And being forced to recruit her as a DS fem Inq was one of the biggest WTFs I ever saw in a BW game. Then "oh that's nice." snideness to the gifts was the crap cherry on top. I hear even people go on about how Lis should treat genders different and be restricted complain about this. It's not so nice in practice when you're the one being crapped on.

I don't remember my character's sex opening up different abilities or dialogue options at every turn. That might be nice but it would be a resource sink surely.
If you want unhappy players to be forced to replay why aren't you arguing that romances should be class restricted or racially restricted, Character A shouldn't be allowed to be romanced by elves/dwarves etc(jaheira BG2 approach).

My point is that given there doesn't seem likely to be extra resources committted to romances the DA2 option that provides deeper content coupled with an element of choice per orientation is preferrable to no choice based on your orientation(2-2) or less content per romance(2-2-2). Hence why i'm not a fan of any of these romance restrictions as things stand.

Of course the characters sexuality opened up different dialogue options - romance dialogues. Concerning race or class restriction: I actually made a post about that just a few pages back: Realistically there would be all kinds of restrictions to romances and I would like seeing those implemented in the game so I could try different things and unlock something new by doing so, but since that takes too much time and effort to include, I'm happy with playersexuality as well.

I'm never "unhappy" if I can't get everything I want in only one playthrough. That's just more good reason to start a replay and try to see all the possible romance content.

I feel the need to agree here. There are many bisexual people who are single and not looking, or who are in monogamous long term relationships. You might know them for years without realizing they're bisexual.

Being bisexual doesn't mean you're obliged to constantly talk about your sexual orientation or express desire for men and women.

If that's what it seems I'm implying is the solution, I'll apologize because it isn't. Constantly talking about it isn't my goal: just recognition that it exists outside of the player at all.

I would like to add that, back when I first played Dragon Age 2, it was during a period of time when I was convinced with quite a bit of certainty that I was straight, and even though I then saw myself that way I had never, not once, (until I got Sebastian's DLC) played a straight Hawke, nor a bisexual Hawke who romanced a character of the opposite sex, and I found Dragon Age 2's romance options refreshing. I rather steadfastly refused to, in fact, and when I occasionally tried to flirt a bit with a character of the opposite sex of my Hawke it just felt straight out wrong or kind of lacking to me. I'm not saying there's anything invalid about a straight variation of the DA2 romances, just that I, from the point of view of a straight girl, couldn't connect with them when I tried.

So my opinion has remained much the same since then, it's just that its reasons largely changed and became a bit more personal. Back then it both felt a bit more right to me- even within my own game and within my own personal player choices I try to strive for equality as best I could, or at least avoid things that feel not-equal to me- and I was also tired of all the heterosexuality all over the place, and I my thought process was kind of "but why in the world would I go for the boring old straight path when another, gay path is available?" And I repeat that this was when I was still convinced I was straight, which for all intents and purposes means that might as well really have been. But my point is it's not just LGBTQ people who might be avidly in support of the playersexual/bisexual (whatever you want to see them as) or who might strongly want them. They might have any kinds of reasons to.

Ooooh.

uh..ontopic so Cullen's an LI.

If 2/2/2 happens I can't help but hope he's a non-companion LI if he's gonna be m/f only. That's just me being selfish and preferring that the bi LIs be companions though :o

I agree. That arrangement was already hella lacking in ME3.

ME3 had weird options due to the continuing romances from past games, MaleShep had Talim Jack, and Miranda but these were only available if they were romanced in ME2.

Really the default layout is a homosexual romance, Liara, Allers (if you count her), and then Kaidan for both, or Ashley for MaleSheps.

Not to say that FemShep didn't get the short end of the stick for romances, she clearly did.  If they were going to make Kaidan bisexual they should have evened it out with Ashley.  (Or not made Kaidan bisexual which I would have preferred)

But then I'd be stuck with either Steve or no one ;_; you'd do that to me Steel? *heart breaks*

Also a pox on you for counting Allers :X

Also I feel hella guilty romancing Steve given what happens to Shep. Too cruel.

Edit: Though yeah ME3 was weird there were too many LIs in that game and most LIs ended up with scraps of content that required DLC to somewhat fix.

Which is why it would be best to keep LI numbers down...

However if that happens, playersexual characters are unavoidable

XD but why.

Wait...does she even get a pre Cerberus base scene like everyone else? I mean...

Counting Allers is like counting Kelly. *cough*

It really is. God that godawful awkward terrible stiptease she does in ME2. It's oen of those things I just look at and think "who in the hell thought that was a good idea?" It was uncanny valley to the fullest.

Ah to connect this to the topic if 2/2/2 does happen and some for the LIs are non companions I hope their romances can be equally in quality to the companion romances. (well unless they're the exclusive options. In which case I wouldn't really care either way *selfish* )

Agreed. 4Lis seems to be the sweet spot. More than that and it feels like the quality suffers.

No she doesn't, and you can even lock in other romances after her

I think that is best, Cullen and Cassandra are confirmed, so I am guessing that Sera and Solas or maybe the Grey Warden will be romances, no clue who else..

The Grey Warden seems rather unlikely.

There was a tweet ages ago that talked about a sort of mentor character that acts grandfatherly towards the Inquisitor and as I remember it was pretty obvious that the Grey Warden was meant. (Unfortunately. I'd like an older guy for LI.)

However, I can't tell you exactly what the tweet said, nor who tweeted it. It's been too long.

A pity, there goes my potential female Inquisitor playthrough
