That's how it was in DA2. It was quite easy to be buddies with Fenris and not lovers, despite him being an romance option. Just don't choose the <3 dialogue option.

Oh I know. In ME2 however you could only comfort Miranda if you were romancing her. :( that sucked.

And Jack wouldn't let FemShep get closer to her than "person leading the mission."  :(

With this in mind, I wonder, do the female posters on the BSN feel it would be more difficult if your favorite LI ended up not being available to you? Is there a similar feeling that, because your demographic is ignored by most other sources, it's harder to not be dissapointed by not getting what seemed like a real opportunity here? For example, if a popular speculated LI (think Solas or Cullen) was the "homosexual" offering, how would you feel about it?

I try not to be obsessive about BioWare romances. Companions do not simply exist for romance and I enjoy companion friendships. I wish characters like Wynne had more fans. I sympathize for the writers who put a lot of time and effort into a character to only be greeted with an overwhelming 'But can I romance them?!'

At the same time, Jade Empire was the first time my female PC was able to save the kingdom and get the princess. It felt *wonderful*. I became a fan of BioWare because they were willing to give me that.

It is something I wish for whenever a new BioWare game is announced. It is something I anticipate constantly when talking about female characters. I am pro-playersexual because I am greedy. If there's a female companion or NPC available for romance, then I want as much opportunity to do so as someone playing a male PC.

Male love interests don't interest me, but I don't see any virtue in making them gay. I'd like to see gay characters, but I'd rather they be part of the world instead of same-sex attraction only existing when the PC is involved.

I don't get it. You don't want same-sex attraction for male characters only when the PC is involved, but you do want it for female characters?

Basically you don't want male characters to be playersexual but you want the females to be? Wat?

Straight female here - I prefer playersexual characters so I can be guaranteed the choice to romance someone I really like. I quite enjoy role playing as a gay male character because I find those relationships to be particularly sweet, but that can sometimes make my favorite LI not an option (for instance Alistair, and Kaidan in ME1).

I get that some people prefer 2/2/2 for the purposes of representation. But I think it'd be better to have more of a sexuality mix among NPCs rather than companions.

I prefer hero-sexual to 2/2/2 because my best friend and I have the same taste in men, and it's no fun when he can't romance them and I can.  How are we supposed to compare notes with a setup like that?  :D

Normally that would be the case, but for things like that companions especially the LIs get the most attention

I don't want any straight girls, being denied by Morrigan was hard enough and I refuse to go through it again.

I would like both male and female love interests to be bisexual.

The original post specifically brought up Cullen or Solas being gay, so I decided to address that after I gave my general thoughts on companion sexuality.

I should probably add that I while I'd prefer bisexual love interests, I don't believe they 'ought' to be bisexual or that having straight or gay love interests is a bad thing. There is an unfortunate undercurrent on both sides of the debate that if the developers don't fulfill a poster's particular desire, they are doing something wrong.

Bisexual. I think it provides the best gameplay experience, and I genuinely like the idea that any player is going to be able to romance the character they have the most interest in.

Exclusivity does open up some options for character development, but I don't think it's worth the cost in the end.

As long as there's equity, however, I'm not bothered much by any outcome.

Straight dude bro gamer here(beware!)
Playersexual is best sexual. Everyone gets what they want, minimal variations in diogue, no complaints about players being cut off from certain LI's

Guys, let's try to keep the conversation about who the romances should be available to and why, rather than whether or not the whole romance system should be scrapped. That's a perfectly fine conversation to have, but it's not really the point of the thread and it seems to be getting everyone worked up.

What's the point in equality, if all we get is equal servings of sliced diaper?

How long have you been here? Such things will always come up, and even if they didn't, everyone would make a big deal out of it.

Because some people never got any of the diaper but are happy with a slice of it?  You might think it's not enjoyable, but others do.

Well thanks for completely ignoring the point of my post, which had absolutely nothing to do with romances being removed, and if you were somehow going on about people enjoying equality, what?

Ain't that the truth. Why would anyone try to campaign to remove romances from Bioware when it's literally almost the only company out there that even incorporates them into the game.

*Ahem*

It also seems like it's usually females that get the most attached to the romance possibilities. (See, Cullen)

We've got loads of guys in the Cullen thread.

For example, if a popular speculated LI (think Solas or Cullen) was the "homosexual" offering, how would you feel about it?

Pretty pumped since I usually only play m/m and f/f romances  But pretty bummed for my fellow Cullenites :(

I don't like 2/2/2 because that means the one I want to romance might be only available to me if i play a certain gender. I experienced that with Alistair, and it sucked. Never again, please.

I prefer defined sexuality, but I'm not going to cry myself to sleep over the DA team's stated playersexual policy.

That is how I feel about it as well. I think it is better to give the characters a set sexual preference rather than having their preferences issued to them by the player character. Sometimes its interesting to have the player character shot down (see Samara in ME2), and I prefer a more realistic model than one where the NPCs' sexual preferences are issued to them by the player like it was a piece of equipment.

That being regardless of what model a person prefers I also don't think it is an issue worth throwing a temper tantrum over. I'm not sure why these threads usually end up in lockville.
