We want development resources spent on resources we will use, or that will otherwise improve our gameplay experience.

I would never use this feature, so I would prefer that none of the game's finite resources be devoted to it.

just cuz you dont use them doesn't make them bad or don't improve the gameplay. for me this would improve the game. that why i got a xbox one. that what i want from next gen new gameplay experience not just bigger ver of last gen games.

I have to say while I have no problem with the game allowing you to use the character creator to shape your character to look somewhat like you - or really I would bet for most people, an idealized version of yourself  :)  (I sure as hell don't have the muscles to swing a 2-handed sword effectively) - I'm not sure I really kin to this particular feature idea.

You should be trying to avoid self-insert. You're role playing somebody else than yourself. Of course, as I keep saying, in a SRPG nobody's "grading" you on whether you're even trying, so it really doesn't matter. But watching your Warden, Hawke, or Quiz run around Thedas with your IRL face just makes avoiding self-insert harder.

Let's put it this way, it's not a feature I'd put ahead of other desired features in the feature-wishlist queue, even things like scabbards & sheaths.

i am role playing someone esle a diff ver of me. one that can all that rpg stuff. ppl who cant tell the diff from the fake world and the real world should be playing game. i play game so i can do stuff that i cant do in the real world.

You missed the point completely.

If features were free your argument would make sense. But they aren't free. Devs who are working on scanning won't be available to work on other things.

It's not that Sylvius is trying to be mean to you. He just wants the devs to work on more useful stuff and less useless stuff. Scanning is literally useless to him since he won't use it. Zero value. Do you get it?

it useful to me and some other. kinect 2,0 already had the coding done for the most part. it sould be easy for them to do, also they can alway do it last, kinect 2.0 is a reason alot of ppl got the xbox one. it cool if he does not use it. however it not cool for him to go i not going to use so dont do it for the ppl that want it.

I can't see it being done as anything other than a gimmick.  That's what this face-scanning technology feels like to me right now.  Just a big "look what we can do!"  It works for a game that doesn't have a lot of other features, like Kinect Sports, but not so much for a serious dialogue-heavy story.  Besides, from what I've seen, the avatars look nothing at all like the people they're supposedly based on, anyway.

Nobody ever said you shouldn't like it. We just find the feature worthless, so our ideal investment in the feature is zero. The fact that you'll get a game you'll like a little less isn't Sylvius' problem. Nor mine.

I hate when people say "it's easy to do" as if all it takes to implement a feature is a couple of taps on the keyboard.

In any case I'd be cool with it but I don't think it should be a priority. The tech just isn't there yet IMO. The kinect sports game uses pre-built "pieces" that snaps together to create a similar face which if they gave the option you could do yourself. (Although obviously that would be slower.)

All face scanning tech so far just puts things into uncanny valley. Animations don't line up with the scanned face, skin stretched around odd shaped head meshes, your character looks so different from the style of the world that it stands out like a sore thumb.

If bioware does it I wouldn't complain, I just don't see it as worth the effort.

I would rather the resources just be put into a more in depth character creator. If I want a character to look like me, I'll make one using a picture as a reference (or a mirror).

I didn't spend $10000 on an amazing custom made TV/Monitor that is built into my lounge room just to have it shatter when i try an input my ugly mug into it.

besides my sunken eyes combined into a long thin face with Jolie lips and eyebrows that are almost invisible to the naked eye has seen previous attempts at this mortify children just from description.

while it is an interesting idea for a SRPG . I wouldn't like it myself, certainly not in Dragon Age (why would I want to look at myself?). Not all of us can afford a kinect either.

A lot of development effort for something that won't do anything at all for the game.

Just a sales gimmick.

What has the world come to?

I'd love that ability. It doesn't have to be a kinect thing but like EA Sports does it with just a photo. I personally like putting myself into games, so the closer I can get the character to look like me the better.  Heck I'd like the ability to edit other characters to look like friends, etc.  It helps me get more immersed in the game.
