I think this was the wrong pary combination - but it worked!

Myself as an elf duelist with two daggers and Wade's Superior Drakeskin armor
Alistair as a Champion, Templar tank with sword and shield and the Juggernaugt armor
Sten as a melee brawler Reaver with the sword found in The Stone Prisoner and Wade's Drakeskin armor
Shale
The battle went as many of you would expect, people started dying because I could get them to take health potions fast enough, even though it was the first thing in the tactics.
Alistair died almost immediately.
My elf died about 2/3 of the way through the battle
Shale fell next
Sten was victorious! The final blow was a beautiful weapon sweep.
In hindsight it appears that ranged weapons may be more appropriate for the next play through, but I can't complain too much since I killed Flemeth on my first try!
How does everyone else go about killing Flemeth, if you decide to?

Alistair, usually now with Warden Commander armor which has some fire resist to it
Shale
Wynne
Keep Wynne up in lyrium and the fight is usually a piece of cake. My last go with Antalya, my rogue, she got the kill animation and the camera was in just the right place and lets just say, it was great fun to watch.

QFT. I usually bring Alistair with fire resist balms, Leliana, and Wynn, if my PC is a mage. If my PC is not a mage I drop Leliana and bring Morrigan.travisco_nabisco wrote...

-My human Mage with Spirit Healer/Shapeshifter as specializations (back-up healer/back-up tank (bearskarn form)/back-up caster)
-Wynne Mage with Spirit Healer/Shapeshifter (healer/ranged mage)
-Alistair as a Templar/Berserker (tanking)
-Leliana as Bard/Assassin (ranged bow)
Alistair and Leliana I had set to pop potions at 50% or less
Wynne I had set to pop lyrium potions at 50% or less
The key from back-up tanking I see is the Disengage. Once Alistair is low (lets say 25%) have his tactic set to activate Disengage. This allows another Tank to take over and he get the healing he needs.
I also hooked Leliana up with Ice Arrows and had the following buffs on my PC caster (Spell Might, Frost Weapons (on full group), Bloody Grasp)
I almost lost Alistair a few times but due to Wynne's spirit healing ability, the whole group survived.

There are these potions in your backback... They like, give you mega buffs and resists and stuff... You should give them a try. They are meant to be used in Boss fights.travisco_nabisco wrote...

Yes, this fight requires a lot of pausing and character manipulation, but it can be done with just about any combo.
Once you learn the fight... try it without pausing (on normal, not easy) - at all - if you want an exciting fight!

You bring Morrigan? I didn't think that was possible. The time I tried, Flemeth wasn't there. I used Alistair, Sten, Wynne, and the PC. Alistair was the last one standing, at least partly because, at the time, this strength, dexterity, and constitution were all in the high thirties--38 or 39, I think....

The only catch is making sure Shale doesn't catch Wynne in the boulder knockdown, preventing heals until she recovers...

Myself - Human, rogue, duelist with duel weapons Starfang and and Olaf's cheese knife, and Wade's Superior Drakeskin armor.
Alistair with the new dragonscale armor....I forget what weapon and shield I gave him
Leliana with an Antivain longbow
Wynne.
Alistair and I went in close while Leliana and Wynne did ranged attacks and Wynne occasionally healed the group.
And to my surprise none of us died, Alistair came close though.

I call bull. You can't fight Flemeth with Morrigan in your party.

The High Dragon was a little more difficult because it moves around more.

Tank (typically Alistair) in Wade's Superior Dragonbone Plate
DPS warrior in Warden Commander or Juggernaut.
Rogue in Wade's superior drakeskin -- melee or ranged, both work for me, just takes different management.
A healer who is usually just topping everyone off and doing minor dps throughout the fight, or whoever else I feel like bringing because the first three can pretty much handle her.

I just got the black grimoire and gave it to Morrigan and I was heading for flemeth.I get from all your answers that maybe I should wait until I'm further in the game and have better equipment?
If you really want to do it earlier, go for it. Bring lots of salves and poltices, and micromanage. You can always take it down to easy mode. Nobody will know but you.
And depending on how you want to roleplay it, you don't have to kill her to complete the quest.

I keep forgetting about the potions and salves that you can apply to weapons. I should really start using them regularly to get a feel for when each is most beneficial.

PC warrior in warden commander plate
Alistar in Blood Dragon Armour
Leliana and Wynne
just make sure you interrupt the grabs and it's cake on any difficulty

Last night I got around to Morrigan's personal quest, killing Flemeth. I figured it would be a bit of a challenge so decided to go with all my heavy hitting melee characters.
Myself as an elf duelist with two daggers and Wade's Superior Drakeskin armor

Sten as a melee brawler Reaver with the sword found in The Stone Prisoner and Wade's Drakeskin armor

Allister Tank- Stack Consituon and 25 strength for allister rest on consitation
Shale- Stack consituin, and his ablitys, off hand tank
Myself A rouge, do mark of death and attack from behind
Wynn, Healer, group heals and bring back from life, stack with will power. Her spells are not meant to be much of damage or dps, but needs a greater pool to draw her magic from
Consition shows the health, and longer they are alive, less healing for the healer

is the amount of health Heal can restore not related to spellpower?

Crucial for me are Wynne's abilities, and my pc mage's if I'm a mage. Fire protection is a must of course, but even more important is forcefield - and my mage's are set high up in tactics to forcefield anyone who is grabbed.
I've had a few deaths, but always killed her first go (no reloads).

PC now with Duncan's sword and dagger, the latter of which does impressive damage against dragons and virtually assures me of the killing blow.
Shale with fire armor can take a lot of damage without falling, so she draws threat while I backstab.
Wynne acts as party healer and also hits with Stone Fist when she can and Force Field when anyone is grabbed. Works great.
Zevran drops his usual daggers and picks up a bow. He also gets Wade's Superior Drakeskin Armor. Lel would be more effective, but I usually romance Zev, so he comes with everywhere.
