A Grey warden got 30 years left to live before hearing the calling and transform into a ghoul.

But Avernus is over 200 years old and have not transformed?

He is not cured from the taint, his notes say;

I can feel the corruption starting to take its toll on my body, i must not succumb. there is too much work to be done.

Through my magic i've been abel to slow its inevitable spread, but not stop it completely.

I am starting to hear things , even while awake.

A voice--more beautiful than any other--that calls to me from the depths.

In my dreams i see the black city, and i am drawn towards it.

There is something there, an answer to what this taint is, this taint that  we share with the darkspawn..

And the taint sustain's the darkspawn and they do not age, that's why he still lives.

But the song makes Darkspawn mindless but he is not.

If you spare the Architect could he and Avernus working together find a way to stop the song.

Makeing the taint in to a powerful weapon and give the Grey wardens eternal life?

I thought Avernus was able to live so long was due to blood magic, not the taint.  I could be wrong, but that's how I always viewed his long life, though I suppose it could be a combination of both?

Nah you're right on the money. Found a way to manipulate the taint and his bodys life span.

And he said he was rapidly reaching the limit of how long he could sustain himself using it.

200 years, so rapid.

If he can sustain himself for say 204 years, then 200 years in he'd be rapidly approaching the limit yes.

200 years, so rapid.

He said it when he encountered the Warden, and later on if his research was allowed to resume, he would leave detailed notes when age claimed him.

He talked as if he had a year or three at most.

Since he is old, his sense of time might of been warp. 1 year for us might be10 for him.

Or he could have been speaking plainly and well aware that blood magic cannot make you immortal, trucking with demons cannot make you immortal.

He prolonged his life, he didn't gain an unending one.

I dont Know about eternal life but maybe a way to hold off the Calling...or instead of turning in to a ghoul (not sure thats what happens most seem to die before the taint takes over) they become more like the Architect and keep their reason (random theory)

It is mentioned in DA2 if you leave him alive that he made a breakthrough...cant wait to see if it pops up in DA:I

He seems to think the answer to the taint lies in the Black City, which makes sense since we have been told that is where it originated.   However, the song that draws him appears to come from the Black City.   This ties in with a question I have asked on the Old Gods post.   Is this where the idea came from that the seat of the Old Gods is/was the Black City?   It is stated that this is an alternative version  of events in the World of Thedas to the one we have become familiar with where the Golden City was the seat of the Maker, turned black by the assault by the Magisters.

Are the darkspawn really immortal?   If that were the case, given how long they have been around and the rate of reproduction of brood mothers, by now the world should be overrun with them.   May be that is what happened to wherever the Qun originated from but seriously it doesn't make sense.
