BioWare, while I am happy to hear any news regarding DA:I, especially companion information, I feel as though if you were going to announce a couple of LI's, that you would have been prepared to elaborate on what gender PC would be able to romance them.

Both Cassandra and Cullen have shown only opposite gender attraction to date (Cassandra in DotS and Cullen in DAO) therefore it is only safe to assume at this point that Cassandra will be available to male PCs and Cullen will be available to female PCs.

Since the DA2 method of Playersexuality/Bisexuality hasn't been confirmed, only some romance fans have reason to be happy with the new news while others are still left wondering.

Clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I feel the same way. It was disappointing to me that they didn't tell us what genders would be able to romance them. I felt like people interested in same sex romances were really left hanging without the clarification.

I would not assume anything about the availability of any romances unless told otherwise, especially based on their previous portrayals.

I'm fairly certain that Gaider mentioned that they liked that they gave players of all sexual orientations choice, and that he didn't see them going back from that route. This could mean that there'll be more romance options but characters will be exclusively available to one gender (thus affording everyone choice), or it could mean they intend to go the DA2 route.

I could also be making this up. I forget.

We'll figure it out, and while I'm not going to get overly hopeful, I think that we should probably trust that BioWare has the interest of all its fans in mind. Waiting a little longer to find out if you can romance someone in a game without a release date is hardly cruel. Patience sucks, but we got no other options!

Agreed. I hope that we won't have to resort to translating german magazines and rumors from those who "got the game early" to know who is romanceable by what gender this time around.

It's not exactly an act of torture to announce a LI and not clarify their availability for a portion of the audience, but it's not really fair, either.

They didn't exactly tell us about character orientations before DA2, so I am expecting it will be the same this time around.

I would like to know a bit more about the world before learning about LI. Still it would be interesting to know if there will be any

(Although honestly I'm trying to learn as little as I can so as to be almost new to the game)

I guess we really just need to know one thing:  How many LIs there are?

Gaider has been pretty vocal that, while he likes the DA: O approach, he's not willing to go back to it if it means that some people will lose out on options.

So if there are 6 LI's (or more, I guess, even though that's pretty unlikely), then they might have a variety of sexualities and we'll need to know who has what orientation.

However, if there are only 4 LI's, then it's likely that they will be all bisexual again and we won't need to think about which players get which LI's.

And what if there are 4 companion LIs but 2 NPC LIs? Some people are theorizing that Scribe Girl and Cullen are prominent characters who have romances but are not in your party.

Last time it was 5 LIs with 4 bi and 1 straight, so I'm not sure we can bank on numbers.

I just wish they would tell us when they announce the character as a LI, though. It just seems rude, to me, to announce it knowing a part of your audience is going to be left guessing.

I wouldn't call it rude, just unfortunate.

I'm willing to wait on story and gameplay details, but Companion and LI info gets me antsy.

I think we can bank on the number 4 though.  If it's only four LI's, I can't imagine that they will go back to the DA: O approach given the very vocal stance that the devs have taken about that.  There isn't any combination of 4 LI's that give f/f, m/f, and m/m roughly equal options, so they would have to be all bisexual unless they are taking back what they've said about romance options.

Outside of that, yeah, the other numbers don't mean much.  And, for the record, I'm including all LI's (companion and/or NPCs) in this statement.

The playersexual thread just died, and this thread may turn into another one. They say it when they say. No need to pester them. As someone who's into gay romance, we should really give developers a break. The push for marketing has not even started yet, so I feel like it would annoy the developers more if we keep pestering them about this feature. With David Gaider had already stated that he would prefer for fairness if he can't give equal amount of LIs then playersexual, otherwise, he would want for sexual orientation to be in the game. I feel like people can take Bioware for granted sometimes.

No offense, but that part of the audience is not any more or less important than those who are interested in other features. As they stated before, the push for the marketing is not even started yet, so any information we have now could be the stuffs they are allowed to say.

Announcing LIs isn't "more important" than announcing other story elements, or how the classes function, but if they're going to announce LIs then I think it's fair that they include the entire audience in that specific announcement. It's just two different issues. If I said, "you told them that warriors can dual wield again, but you didn't tell me if I can romance Cullen, that's not fair!", then obviously that would make no sense. Making the announcement knowing people intending to romance Cassandra/Cullen in a hetero relationship will get clarification and not adding the clarification for people wanting to know if they're same-sex available shows pointed unfairness. I'm willing to accept that they probably just didn't think about it, but I think it should be cleared up.

Yes, but they made a point of announcing 2 LI's. This is a new tidbit of news for romance fans to get excited about. But since the two announced LI's have had previous noted attractions, it leads to Cullen and Cassandra fans who are interested in M/F romance to have confirmation, but the fans who are interested in M/M and F/F don't have that confirmation and are left up in the air.

Huh.  Thought it was confirmed a while back the LI's could be romanced by either gender.  Guess that was just a semi-confirmed rumor.
