Both Kaidan and Anders ended up being bisexual. The point of the thread and my point regarding unfairness was that some people know and others don't. And I think it's a pretty big stretch to assume marketing would reveal two exclusively gay romances over two romances who are available to the majority of their players. So even if this is speculation, it's speculation founded on quite a lot of evidence that supports it as opposed to no evidence that supports the other side. As I said earlier I don't think they're doing anything technically wrong, but I don't think think it is fair.

I know, but it shows that characters can change. Sure, it is more likely that heterosexual characters are able to romance them, but it is no more confirmed than whether or not a homosexual can romance them so no one can be 100% certain of anything yet so I don't see the issue with fairness. If they flat out said that male Inquisitors can romance Cassandra and female Inquisitors can romance Cullen then I'd see what the worry is about. What I'd take personally from the fact they were revealed but by no specific gender is that they're available for both genders to cater for everyone. But again, that's just more speculation.

I think a male Shep could have Liara in ME 1, Miranda or Tali in ME 2, casual sex with Kelly in ME 2, casual sex with Jack in ME 2 (I didn't know that until you just said it), then Ashley in ME 3, plus casual sex with Allers in ME 3.  So, if that's correct, that would be 6 ladies over the course of 3 games.

Of course, I didn't fact this check before posting, so I might be off a bit.

I don't think you can get with Kelly if you have an LI...least I'm pretty sure about that. You might be able to romance her beforehand if you wait til after the SM to lock any of the main ME2 LIs in.

KILL IT. KILL IT WITH FIRE!

But back on topic, I have not a clue why so many romances were put into ME3.

It needed Mass Effect 2.5: Welcome to Dumpsville to cull the number a bit.

I wonder if they had a flowchart to show the possible romance paths they needed to negotiate.

Nope, you can get with Kelly and still lock in your LI before the SM. I don't think hitting on Kelly has any kind of repercussions. Like Allers.
At least that's what I remember. (Then again, I'm not even sure I hit on her in my ManShep playthrough. I may have just tried it in my FemShep playthrough...what with her being the only goddang option on the ship. Apart from Samara, and that never went anywhere as we know.)

MEs problem was that they had to keep bringing over LIs from other games. It's no wonder they were hatcheting some by 3, honestly. There are bonuses to continuing stories, like Shepherds. This is one of the drawbacks.

That's why I feel it's unfair to say the NPC romances in DA:I won't get enough content

Oh. Then jeez make that 5 people Shep can hook up with over the series. XD

Yeah most you get with Samara is a kiss if you stayed single in Ciatadel DLC I think.

That true? It's a pity then that I haven't been able to touch any of the games since ME3. I would have liked a more in-depth romance (anything, really) with Samara.

I actually agree with this.  Since the DA series has a new protag each game, it's increasingly unlikely that they will ever have to deal with the huge amount of LIs that ME had so they should be able to do justice with NPC LI's, I'd bet.

I think DA can (and probably will) do better with NPC romances, but I still don't see myself ever liking them as much as companion romances. It's just the party banter, quest involvement, etc, like I said before. It's just impossible to involve them as much, generally.

I understand what you're saying, but I can't agree that it is fair. One option is likely and the other is dependent on a system they've used before, but are hesitant to confirm they're using again. To me it seems that one group of people have more to be concerned about than the other. The second group has to assume the system is still in place while the first does not. So I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this. :)

Yeah, I see what you mean. I'm sure the DA team will put great effort into any possible NPC romances, but it's just not the same when they can't join you in your adventures. Fighting dragons, templars and god knows what kind of rabble tends to bring you closer together, after all. I can't fistbump a NPC after a successful fight. There's no bonding on the battlefield, they can't be there for the PC during those times on the road when everything just becomes too much (an vice versa), they're just....there when you get home. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but...it's hard to share the same kind of connection with them as you would with someone who regularly lays their life on the line for you.

WAIT, I'M SO CONFUSED.

Have there already been two confirmed love interests??? People in the thread seem to be implying that there are. A source would be nice : x

One of the things that I see as a big let down about NPC romances is that they announced party banter would be interactive this time. I remember it was said you'd be able to actually join in this time, in some capacity, not just the one random line you'd sometimes auto-say before. So, if we do a NPC romance, we're going to totally miss anything related to it with our romanced character.

Bioware confirmed it at their PAX East panel. During Q & A, I believe. There's a video recording floating around on tumblr (and somewhere on here as well, I am sure), if you're interested in the whole thing.

But what if the NPC's are advisors? What if they have story content the rest of the party can't be around for like War Room situations? They could very well be plot important NPC's that have lots of content.

That's a valid point. Though I would argue that surviving a dragon attack together and licking each other's wounds after battle (not literally, though....I think) still makes for a more intimate connection than solving poitical conflicts. :P

I can't imagine you'd spend as much time in the war room as you do playing the entire rest of the game. I'm just not seeing how an NPC can possibly be as featured as the people that follow you literally everywhere.

Maybe they just randomly appear wherever the Inquisitor is. It could be like a running gag.

Cullen: "Inquisitor."

Inquisitor: "WHOA. How did...- Oh nevermind, what is it?"

__________

Cullen: "Inquisitor."

Inquisitor: "How the HELL, Cullen? I was riding a goddamn HORSE, how are you even here?!"

___________

Cullen: "Inquisitor."

Inquisitor: "WHAT THE *BLEEP*, CULLEN."

___________

Cullen: "Inquisitor."

Inquisitor: "YOU SERIOUSLY GOTTA STOP DOING THAT."

___________

Cullen: "Inquisitor."

Inquisitor: "YOU...- You know what, screw it. I'm not even gonna ask."

At that point, I think they might as well just be a follower. I mean, if they're following you everywhere, anyway.

I admit, I had to google that. I didn't even know that guy existed. Makes me want to play Baldurs Gate again just to see what's up with that. :D

Yeah, whenever a DLG file was referenced but unloaded, a character named Biff the Understudy would spawn (so that there would be an actor present to continue the dialogue).

Not something that would normally happen, but there were some edge cases where you could still get him to appear. They ended up giving him a proper part in BG2 (he's an actor in the Five Flagons).

The suggestion that characters could just magically appear to run dialogue made me instantly think of him. :)
