I'm gonna commit one of the cardinal sins on the forum and say I think I remember something Gaider said once without linking anything :P

Wasn't one of the companions he wrote a character he always wanted to write. And wasn't there speculation that the character was Solas? So maybe he is a gay only option? (if that is in fact part of the reason Gaider has wanted to write that character to long?)

but obviously without links this is entirely speculative but hey! we have months to confirm it!

Haha yes, I know exactly what blog post of his you are referring to. It's on his Tumblr, and I'm way too tired to dig for it lol

It's highly possible that this so called special character was Solas. Based on his response to people about his baldness, I think he did indeed write Solas.

I remember Gaider saying he got to write a character he'd always wanted to write, but I've never actually thought there was enough evidence to call it that he wrote Solas. Honestly, I don't think it's even certain that both of his companions will be LIs anymore. He may have written the LI plot for Cullen or a female NPC.

Yeah, if NPC romances are on the table, then it's fair to say that it might not be his two companions are both LIs.  We know he wrote two companions and we know that he wrote LIs, but it's not clear that his two LIs were his two companions.

I do  think that Gaider wrote Cassandra (is that confirmed?) and Solas (based off of his reaction to fan reaction to Solas).  We know that Cass is an LI, but that doesn't mean Solas is too.

Yes, he has confirmed that he wrote Cassandra.

Yep, Gaider wrote Cass.
I don't know if he wrote Solae though. And even if he did, I somehow don't think Solas will be a LI. At least not if we get 4 LIs as usual. It's more of a gut feeling, though.

I was under the impression that Cassandra was definitely his, but I'm still on the fence about Solas. I don't think defending the character design means it's definitely his character. Maybe he just personally LIKES the character, or maybe, as lead writer, he feels protective to a point over all the characters. It's just always seemed like a big leap to me.

Agreed, it's totally a leap.  Something about the way he responded just seemed so......personal?  I'm not sure.  It's just a hunch, and that's all it is.

Yes, he wrote Cassandra.

Assuming that the character he was referring to is a companion is probably not going to be useful speculation. It could have been any of the characters he's tasked to write (it could be the little red-head child at the base of the bridge in Lothering, all grown up now, for all that we know).

I also believe he wrote Solas (for now, at least), but I wouldn't ascribe any particular characteristic to him even if that was who David was referring to.

I remember he made a blog post heavily praising Vivienne's design. Maybe he just likes bald characters. Isn't he bald? Haha.

But I've thought maybe he did an NPC romance for a while. His openness about writing two LIs always felt like it could be misleading, to me. Maybe I'm just super paranoid. It's just that Gaider's posts always tend towards being vague and that one was extremely straight forward. I can't help but suspect shenanigans. lol

People were talking about how Gaider's blog mentioned people perhaps being disappointed they couldn't romance X with their PC. That to me at least meant there would be some restrictions. I'm HOPING it's race but considering 70+% of players played human when given an option...I doubt it.

One of the things David has specifically mentioned in the past was how Varric not being romanceable in DA2 was used as irrefutable evidence of the writers' racism. (And when the final list comes out and Varric's not on it again, expect to see all the same accusations.)

I wouldn't immediately jump to the conclusion that he was referring to sexuality, at least not exclusively (I'm sure there were some players who were disappointed that Sebastian wasn't also bisexual and may have tried to claim some sort of bias on BioWare's part).

Hm...I hope that's the case. =/ My inner cynic is laughing at me though.

I have to wonder what some of you do when you see a person you fancy in real life and have no devs to demand their sexual preferences from...

MODEDIT: There is no need for a post like this. It's inflammatory in nature.

This seems unneccessarily aggressive and insulting to a man who has been very open about his lack of first hand understanding of LGBT issues and who has been very vocally supportive of inclusion in the game.  Allan is an ally and we should treat him as such.

You mean he exhibits basic human decency? I don't give out points for that.

Being an ally to a disenfranchised group doesn't mean you aren't still capable of saying dismissive or hurtful things about that group, and I should know, because I've been called out for the exact same thing.

And let's be honest, this is extremely basic stuff that applies to all such situations, not just ones involving your LGBT playerbase. If people were unsure about how combat was going to work, and Allan had responded with "I don't know why you even want to know", he'd be crucified, and nobody would swallow the excuse of being bound by an NDA, because no NDA would've required him to go out of his way to say anything at all.

I find it odd that the Bioware mod seems confused that some would like to know whether Cassandra and Cullen are Same-sex romance options.

My confusion stemmed from trying to understand the disappointment because, to me, the disappointment seemed to be that someone was unhappy that other people might be happier with the news.  The issue being that, regardless of what news we share, there's always going to be people that are happier with it than other people.

I can understand just fine that people want more information.  People always want more information.

Wow. Just wow. I'd say more, but I'm literally too filled with rage to type at the moment. Otherwise, there'd be plenty of four lettered words flying at you for such intolerance and plain dumb ignorance.

Did you mean for this to sound offensive, or is the translation of speech to text just making it seem so? I'd like clarification, before jumping down your throat.

Oh no. It's the former. The emoticon makes it blatantly obvious.

I don't think it has anything to do with being "happy". Whether anyone is happy about the announcement or not is entirely tied to how they felt about the characters actually announced as LIs. It's just that part of the audience got information they can bank on and part of the audience didn't really get anything. It's being told, "you can romance these LIs" vs "maybe you can romance these LIs, at least there a slightly better chance than before". Whether you're going to be happy about it or not is a whole different issue. But I really don't see how it's "more information" in a practical sense. It's the same information, just clarified for the entire audience.
