I was surprised that I came to really like Irving. I never liked the whole situation with Jowan when I played a mage the first few times, but later, I see Jowan as a whiny sort that is generally annoying so I wanted to go to Irving because Jowan drags me into his mess and truly doesn't care that it could cost me greatly especially once you find out he is a blood mage. Irving has my back though.

Even though he's only there for a short time, Daveth. Right before the joining what he says really surprises me. He has more courage and nobility than Jory. I get Jory's concerns but Daveth despite being conscripted sees the big picture and is willing to do what it takes to see the blight stopped.

Shianni though she's kind of stupid in the city elf opening, she ends up being pretty cool. I wonder what she would have been like as a companion if she were a rogue or mage. I bet she would have been fun.

The Couslands, especially Bryce and Fergus. I wish there was more of them in the game. I am always so happy to see Fergus show up at the end for my cousland.

Bann Alfstanna. She seems like good people. She offers to help the cousland down the line and she is grateful enough to give you a family heirloom. Also, when she speaks up at the landsmeet if you use the poisoning of Eamon as proof it's kind of funny how she calls him on the lie.

Teagan - so many reasons... helping the people of redcliffe, being so charming and polite, seems like he should be the one leading rather than Eamon. I like when he takes over Redcliffe in the epilogues.

Those are just a few off the top of my head.

I liked Wynne more. I thought she was all stuffy at first, but after the game went on, she was like a motherly/grandmotherly presence for everyone. And funny too.

I must say I did not like Zevran my first 2 plays. In fact, I killed him on my second play O_o.

BUT, I romanced him on a later play (with mod help and a good morph) :P And I found he was a very true, honest character.

Zevran for me. I never killed him in any of my playthroughs but he sat in the camp the first 2. After I played da2 again and saw him right there beside me on the final mad woman boss fight, I kissed the screen and made effort to get to know him afterwards. Then on hes in my group 70% of the time, and always around 90 rep at the end.

Still not LI material for me though, and thats not gonna change anytime soon.

All the characters that I liked in my first playthrough, became even more likeable with each consecutive playthrough. Some of them are Leliana, Alistair, Wynne, Oghren, Shale, Lanaya, The Rhyming Oak, Dagna, Shianni, Alfstanna, the Couslands, Riordan, Sister Justine and Sister Theolid, etc.

Some of them I didn't quite like initially, but they grew onto me with time. Some of them are Morrigan, Flemeth, Zevran, Gorim, Anora, Loghain, Murdock, The Mad Hermit, Ignacio.

Honestly most of the characters are interesting except for a odd few.

@Jeffonl1 - Not silly at all. The conversation with Sister Theohild and Mother Perpetua is really funny.

I still remember how sten annoyed the crap out of me the first time I played. I don't even remember why. Wow, do things change. He became one of my favourite characters ever since. I usually never exclude him from my adventuring group. I just love listening to him talk and getting to hear his disdain towards Ferelden minus the cookies always gives me chuckles.

Gorim is another. Very heartwarming seeing him at the ending reception (and getting to name your child after him! aw).

I think Nathaniel is an obvious one. Seeing as how his trustworthiness and respect for you blossom as you go along. I always love seeing him go from the bitter man you first meet in a cell to a respectful and reliable comrade as he comes to terms with his father's impact on his family.

I remember really hating Morrigan in my first playthroughs. But I came to like her more and more with each replay. Now my characters tend to at least befriend her even if they disagree with her on a lot of things (My Lawful/Neutral Good Cousland romanced her, but broke it off on amiable terms and still remained bff's with her.)

By DA2, he seems more at home in the Wardens than any of my characters. He seems so much like Duncan/Stroud/Riordan. They all have the dark hair, grim, and serious thing going on.

Makes me wonder what Carver or Bethany will become.

I only killed Zev on my second play because he betrayed me the first time around. I had no clue what I was doing anyway :P

Loghain and Anora-I always view them as a bit of a package deal.

Zevran-beyond his banter is a heart of gold.

Lanaya-she should have been the Dalish Keeper all along.

Sten kind of grew on me. He plays his role as the squishy giant with the dreadlocks who loves cookies.

Loghain does uphold himself with honour, but he has bad abilities. Still nice though.

Mithra is also good, because she rminds me how tamlen was

Speaking of tamlen, that tormented shriek is quite a powerful character (emotionally)

I started liking Sten more and more.  At first I didn't like him much because of how bland he seemed.  But as I kept playing, I saw that he can be funny if he feels like it (in the sarcastic way, not the joking around way).  He also got more interesting as I played.  I mean, his views on Fereldan, human society, religion, food, and a bunch of other stuff just showed that he had more of a personality than his stoic demeanor would suggest.  He's definitely up there in my list of DA:O characters I like.

Anora,Isolde and Morrigan:

Wanted to push them off a cliff during my first play-through now I'm neutral about them.

I also didn't care much for the Dalish till I played one.

Definitely Sten. I didn't think much of him at all in the beginning, until I saw how he reacted to things, and his various insights. The whole thing with the Qun is also pretty fascinating. He's easily my favorite character in DA:O.

I'm actually kind of surprised at how much I came to like and sympathize with Loghain. Even if Loghain's decisions are a major thorn in the Wardens' side, I can kind of understand his logical process as to how he came to each and every one of them. That's a pleasant change from the clear cut lines between good and evil that I'd been used to. (Granted, I still usually have some in-character reason to kill him, even if it's just as a bone to throw Alistair.)

Wynne: Typically kill her on my canon run, because Morrigan, and it's probably for the best. She wouldn't have liked my canon Warden much, and would be out of the party (one way or another) because of Haven. However, when I did recruit her with other Wardens, I ended up liking her. While I don't agree with much anything she believes, I do think she's a stand-up sort of person and respect her for that.

Oghren: DA:O's supporting cast is elite. So much so that a great character like Oghren went unnoticed by me the first time around. He's got some "dirtbag" in him... which I love, reminding me of some old friends I used to go to war with on the gridiron. There's nothing like that kind of company. Guys like that are truly a blast to be around!

"What greater weapon is there than to turn an enemy to your cause?"

As much as I am astounded by the hypocrisy of that quote, considering who utters it in KotOR, I find it very applicable when it comes to Loghain.

Tended to go out of my way not to single him out as the big bad-to-be-killed in my very first play-through of the game when given the opportunity. It's nice to see that approach vindicated in the end.

I have grown to like Oghren's beyond crude sense of humour too, to be had. Cracks me up, low as it may be. "Never change" indeed.

I could never like, sympathize, or otherwise support Loghain. I mean, okay he made a play to grab power in the realm, fine. But to leave the field of a key battle at the onset of a blight? Bah.

Anyway, I gotta go with Oghren, and Sten.

I fell in love with the character of Teagan from the very first moment I saw him, giving Loghain hell at the Landsmeet.  Note also, he's the ONLY noble there in armor in the gallery of clones.  I tend to think he heard what happened and threw on his armor and rode post haste to Denerim to deal with the situation.  And that affection has only grown.

Another character I grew to love more as I played was Nathaniel Howe.  From his penny arcade comic and the fact that he was the son of the most reviled character in Origins, I expected to loathe him, but since my first PC (a Cousland warrior) in Awakenings needed a rogue, I let him out and recruited him.  The initial interview was humorous, and as the game progressed, he quickly became my favorite Awakenings companion.

Over time, I grew to appreciate Anora more, especially once I made a HNM to marry her.  At first I viewed her as an antagonist and felt the slides for Alistair as king were much better, but over time I realized that Anora's rule had more far-reaching implications of progress and prosperity for Ferelden with a move toward increased trade and making education more accessible.  I wouldn't say I like her, there's not a lot to 'like' about her, but i certainly understand and appreciate her nuances more than I did initially.
