It all comes down to preference really, I mean it's fun to try all cause of the storylines.
I would like to play a fairy though, hopefully bioware will consider if i do a 10 page petition.
I already play a fairy all the time. ![]()

To answer the original question, I have no problem playing through as a female character if that is the only option or an option that impacts the story in a meaningful way. For instance, I played through the ME series a bunch of times as male and female Shep.
I think some people way over-think these games. I don't take them all that seriously. In fact, I played through as femshep just to experience Jennifer Hale's VO as I heard it was great. Glad I did. I also played through DA2 as a female Hawke a few times, again, mainly because I liked the voice of the actress portraying her as a harda$$. I preferred the male smarmy Hawke, though.
Seems fair, but only if the elves' new design can convince me that they are actually capable of surviving in the wild. Or that they live in the wild at all.
What led you to that conclusion? Even humans living in the wild would look like elves after a while! heh
Being lithe and athletic are great attributes for a forest-dwelling people.
After playing games since forever who have had male protagonists (with a few exceptions), I actively play as female wherever I can.
Plus Bioware games tend to go against the norm by putting females into these roles. The game industry isn't exactly gender neutral...
So yes, for Inquisition I expect all my characters will be female. Plus with two voices! Choices!! ![]()

That made me cackle lol ![]()
Roleplaying as a female and playing as a female are different things.
Honestly, in Bioware games, I never truly inhabit the role of any character I play, I feel more like a "Director" or PoV character watching things happen and telling the story. I hope that doesn't come off as a negative comment, because I rather enjoy that feeling. It's something entirely unique to Bioware's games that I don't get anywhere else.

Of course. DAO's elves were alright, and the dalish concept art even more so. DA2 elves, on the other hand? They are certainly lithe. A little too much, in fact. But athletic? There's no way I'm buying those guys are nomads and hunters.
Right, but since Hollywood pretty much sets the standard all over the world, now, I don't really see the point in pretending like any other culture has anything to do with current societal ideas about beauty.
I also wanted to clarify, since Bob wasn't going to, that we weren't talking about some magical, objective 'beauty' standard (which doesn't exist), but are actually operating from a culturally biased perspective.
I don't really see how a 'cultural bias' makes any difference.

Oh jeez.
Okay, so you know how you kept asking over and over again "WHAT IS WRONG WITH MAKING CHARACTERS BEAUTIFUL OMG"?
Well, what I was also trying to tell you is that 'beauty' is subjective, and not everybody agrees with you that 'beautiful' characters are beautiful. Hence why I kept putting the word inside quotation marks.
I play only as my own gender because.....um.....hmmm....I don't know....I guess I'm sexist.

Well, to a small extent. But overwhelmingly, people are in agreement about overall attributes.

Especially since DA2 elves were modeled after prey (deer-like) and not predators.

Well actually I would disagree with you a bit. When I lived in Korea, I was shocked by how different their ideas of beauty were from what I was used to seeing in the western world. Hollywood has only expanded so far.
Im female and I find it real easy to play both genders.
I'm finding it easier and easier myself, as I go along.
...

I would argue that collectively, there are agreed upon ideas of what constitutes beauty. It could have different nuances and tastes. I am attracted to brunettes, for instance, which is one of the reasons I married one. That isn't to say that I don't appreciate the beauty of blondes, redheads, etc.
People also always leave out inner beauty in these discussions...which I find much more important.
I admit that I avoid playing as a woman in my canon-playthroughs or as personality inserts because I really don't know how changing that would alter my life view
