When is Alistair challenged? That whole exchange seems to be about you and Loghain. And how you're some "puppetmaster" of his demise.

I've had it happen, don't know the exact circumstances.

It might have to do with what you brought up during the landsmeet perhaps? Or if you pick attack? I'm not sure but I think it did happen to me and I think I used ostagar and might have attacked them. I don't really remember though. But letting Alistair duel him is generally not the best plan for a fair amount of outcomes that may be desired.

It's funny though, if you win, he compares the victor to Maric, and thought you were an idiot like Cailan. I feel like this resonates the most with a human noble or Alistair. Because they're the ones with the only chance to take Maric's place and lead Ferelden.
But my elf duels him anyways.
edit: I think this is one of those cases where there's human centered assumptions in the dialogue. The whole Landsmeet is really. Like when you talk to Sten and he criticizes Ferelden.. like your Dwarf or Dalish Elf should care.

Enough of the dialogue is so general that after a few games you really start to notice things like that.
I will say I was kind of thrown playing an elf recently when I was in a romance with alistair and asked him if he would want to be with an elf or something like that and his answer was something like especially because of that which kind of creeped me out because it was like he had a thing for elves. Such a crappy dialogue response that now I can't really romance him as a human because I keep thinking 'eh, well you'd rather especially be with an elf so you probably are just being charming to get laid for the first time...' My human noble then did the shocking and made him marry anora. It was a toss between letting him die in the US or marrying him to her and now he's my toy but I can do what I want. Yeah, that dialogue response was really kind of creepy. Probably the same for dwarves. So I guess human's aren't especially his first choice. Ah well, glad I could do in a jam.

Alistair's a player. He's not even really a virgin. All of the Ferelden guys use that line.
I always fight him as my Warden. So far, I've beaten Loghain with three elves and two dwarves (I haven't been able to get a human Warden to the Landsmeet yet...).
It was satisfying to have my human-hating city elf beat Loghain and execute him personally to show that humans aren't superior to elves at all.
His rage over Loghain letting Tevinter slavers into the alienage and making Howe arl of Denerim (allowing him to purge the alienage) just made it that much more personal, as opposed to Alistair just being upset that Loghain left Cailan and the Wardens to die at Ostagar.
Honestly, I think that the city elf origin has more of a reason to kill Loghain and Howe. For most origins, the main thing against Loghain is that he's trying to kill you and Howe's an a-hole. Human noble seeks revenge against Howe, but doesn't have a personal motivation to kill Loghain and is, in my opinion, more likely to spare him.
City elf has Loghain coming after him/her, is locked out of their home while Howe purges it, and has their friends and family suffering and being taken by Tevinter slavers that Loghain had let in. So, unless the city elf is completely heartless and doesn't care about anyone or anything, they are going to be absolutely pissed at Loghain and will have more of a reason to see Loghain die than even Alistair.

Seriously starting to wonder if that was all just some fake BS. And I fell for it line and sinker. But really... he wants to be with an elf especially because of that. And the down side is that for this game, I'm just not a fan of playing an elf. They're absurdly short. I like my PCs to be tall. I feel like I'm running a child when I play one. They could have gone for shorter but not that much smaller.

I wonder if they're going to do the same in DA3. In DA2, the elves (like Fenris) seem to be on par with humans.

City elf and human noble have the most reason to want howe and loghain dead. City elf because of the whole noble rapist start which would make them leery of nobles in general and then after the purge and even further because of loghain selling them as slaves. My city elf took that very personally and while Alistair might have believed his reason was more important, fact is loghain just sold my family/friends to be used for blood magic. Dude's lucky I don't torture him first. Then Howe for the purge... oh yeah, definitely has it coming.
Human noble against howe for obvious reasons but loghain because he was in league with howe on some level and by the time she gets to the landsmeet, she's out for blood. Too much death because of him. She doesn't even care how involved he was or not. And she really kind of liked the elves at highever. She thought they were sweet and wanted to tell nan she was going to can her ass if she didn't treat them better. And they were really cute. She actually had talked to her father about trying to improve the lot for all elves.

I wish they did it for the first one.
Even skyrim didn't make the heights that different except maybe between a breton and high elf or nord. Wood elves were smallest but not totally so. Fenris was kind of on par with a breton. I think that held true for Oblivion though I only played it once as an imperial for the backstory to my Skyrim obsession.
I like the elves but really don't care for making them so slight. I get the dwarves. That makes sense to me because they're dwarves. I'll probably roll with a dwarf scout one of these days. I have yet to do their stories. But I just didn't care for my elf being so slight. I looked for mods but none of them worked. I wish someone found a way to use human form, swap the head.

I like to roleplay my human noble as being a Loghain fanboy. He grows up admiring him even more than his own dad. He's even a little ashamed of his own nobility. He's a wannabe commoner. The Highever estate is in the coastlands, so he hangs at the docks and in taverns undercover.
Fast forward though and he's really disillusioned by Loghain, but doesn't have it in him to kill him. And even finds some resentment of the Wardens himself. He's very torn.

Skyrim's a whole different setting.
DA is borrowing more from D&D, I think.. where Elves are generally shorter. In Skyrim and WoW, they're all like Shaquille O'Neal. Who knows why.
But DA2 was cool. I don't like all of their faces except the main characters (Fen, Merrill, Merathari), but the body shapes are fine. Hope they stick with it too.

Dwarf Commoner.
Do it.
Probably the least popular, but underrated. Also, go for Cocky voice. It's Jack from ME ![]()

I'll do that at some point. I have a few unfinished games to go. I start them and get to a point then decide I want to do another one. Right now I feel like I might want to do an elf I really get into playing because I did them to do them but didn't really get into them though they were pretty well put together as far as attitudes and motivations. I just didn't have my heart in them. Probably will be the same with the dwarf.

Oh, just saying. Dwarves are pretty cool.
But yeah, finish the elf. Both origin stories are good imo. I don't know if you went CE or Dalish, but maybe you'll warm up to one more.
I did a fem dwarf commoner playthrough with the cocky voice set (Dual-wield rogue, Duelist, Assassin). It didn't sound like Jack. Oddly enough, I had more trouble beating Loghain with her than with any of my other Wardens. ![]()
Never used anyone but the Warden.
Usually my Warden; Alistair once; Zevran once. If I ever get my Amell to the Landsmeet, she'll get someone to do it for her.

I never romance him unless Female Noble Queen. She does want to be Queen and doesn't care about the kid thing. The male human noble is the "puppetmaster" . He will serve the throne and help AL make the tough decisions until he disappears for some unknown reason. CE is the AS.
Puppeteer. the word is puppeteer.
Warden, as always my choice.
I just had Alistair do the duel for the first time. Bah, doing this with a warrior sucks. My assassin would have made short work of Loghain in less than half the time it took Alistair, without the load of health poultices too.

My 2-hander human-hating city elf destroyed Loghain in about a minute. My S&S warrior dwarf noble took about 2 or 3 minutes. How long did it take Alistair?
No idea, I didn't exactly time it.
But I think several minutes, which seemed very long after the way my current party (cunning axe-dagger rogue, Zevran, Oghren and Wynne) tore through the game on nightmare (though I'll admit they wear some downloaded Witcher 2 armor which is a little overpowered). Bosses like Jarvia, Kolgrim, Revenants, and even the high dragon went down very quickly. This is all on nightmare too.
Loghain resisted every shield ability from Alistair, but at least Alistair did so too thanks to the + physical resistance items and rune I had equipped him with. Otherwise he would actually have lost.
