you poor thing! Dorian was pretty amazing for me so I enjoyed my first male character everrrr and he was a good cullen distraction. I'll post a pic when I get home tonight, I think I did okaaaaaay.
Not really. Not everyone can talk to people (especially if they are romantically interested). My best friend is like that and he reminds me of Cullen in that sense. He just completely freezes and you would think he was a kid in school or something. But as soon as he is around other men or female friends he is fine.

Anyone else find it kinda weird that Cullen is in his mid 30's and still can't talk to girls?
I suppose the way he gets all nervous is adorable, but doesn't make a lot of sense.
Templar life, perhaps? They don't take vows of celibacy but don't get out much either.
He can interact well with women in a professional setting, which is all that would worry me. Considering he was shy around a crush to begin with and then he had a massively traumatic experience which canonically caused him to more or less swear off having a personal life for ten years, I think he's doing pretty well.

Re: cullen's awkwardness, I think it's just a templar thing. Its not that they can't get laid, but when you're not supposed to fraternize with your charges, makes the pickins slim. I'm sure there are templars who are rowdy, flirty, suave, but cullen used to be a "by the book" kinda guy, so he wouldn't have joined them I guess.
I don't know what I'd prefer, a zevran cullen or cullen as he is (ala awkward alistair)...hmmm

Yeah, agreed. His self-consciousness has only really appeared while dealing with crushes - it's probably easier to know how to conduct yourself in a professional manner during work since it's pretty much a standard code of conduct, but when your hopes are that the person you're interested in will like you as an individual underneath that facade it makes sense that his social anxiety would kick in. In Origins, he hastily reassures the female Warden that him being the person assigned to put her down if she failed her Harrowing wasn't personal. In Inquisition, he's often torn between his need to appear professional and his need to show you that he does care what you think of him - it's why Leliana taunts him at the war table, and why Cassandra hints at his fear of disappointing you. I think he finds it easy to separate himself from his emotions in situations of work but harder when his future with someone he really wants to be with depends on whether she will like him when he sheds that figurative armor of his. (

He doesn't have any problem talking to my girls, he gets a bit flustered when confronted with out of the blue awkward questions about his sex life, but I am guessing a lot of people do.
Plus he is pretty introverted and a little shy, having someone hit on you can be a little daunting....you'll notice he gets a little more comfortable with it later on.

Part of that was probably Hawke only being able to shoot down Anders in the rudest way possible, but still. I would still like to see some kind of dynamic where you are pursued based on your perceived level of interest in the LI.

I've said this elsewhere so forgive me if I sound like a broken record, but I don't read him as being awkward at all. Yes, he's been somewhat sheltered with Templar life, but I took his stammering those few times as being hesitant for the reasons he gives the IQ, also the fact that he's going through lyrium withdrawals would make him hesitant to start a relationship or pursue anyone. They are at war, she's his boss, he didn't think it was appropriate or possible. But he knows how to mack, seriously. Watch the chess scene again. Or the scene where she tells him she's glad he's alive. He gives her smirks and eyes all over the place. Also the way he says "Not in Kirkwall". I think he just really respects her position, and her, and didn't wan't to muck it up. I'd bet if they'd met under different circumstances he'd be courtin' the **** out of her.

I'm on Patch 3 and I haven't had any issues with DAI Cinematic Tools. It works the same as before.

Um, honestly, I don't see this at all. I think he can talk to girls just fine, as is evidenced by 80%-100% of your female PC's interactions with him and his interactions with the other women in the Inquisition. I think he's new to relationships, and let's be honest, dating is a necessarily awkward endeavor for just about anyone. Also, given his limited opportunities for dating as a templar, I wouldn't expect him to be a smooth operator. So, I think his interactions with PC make plenty of sense.
Besides, he's often characterized as stuttering and nervous, but I don't think that's really the case. I think he's less confident in this arena, and second guesses himself quite a bit (like when you're talking about your future together), but he also shows a considerable amount of assertiveness (see: abruptly kissing you after Jim interrupts, desk scene). So, I think it's just the right amount of both uncertainty and assertiveness.
This is all independent of how age isn't really a determinant for this sort of thing, anyway. (incidentally, he's not in his mid thirties, but apparently younger than we've been led to believe; he's "around 30")

Yeeeah, like monica said, the controversy over Anders making the first move in DA2 means this is not something likely to happen again. Players are very vocal about having agency, particularly for such a maligned aspect of the game as romance.

I also think if Cullen showed up in your quarters suddenly it would be HIGHLY inappropriate and unprofessional, if she hadn't instigated anything because of their working relationship and how much power he has. Blackwall doing it after a few flirts is a tiny bit creepy BUT he is just her companion/employee and he isn't commanding the troops or anything really important at the IQ. Cullen has to worry about how the IQ forces see him.
