So i missed page 1000 and didn't come close to getting my little fic offering done, unfortunately pesky life has ben getting in the the way with a kitchen refurb/refit that went somewhat awry (no electricity on and off for the last couple of weeks due the mains board going belly up and a major rewire having to be done. It's been fun). Anyway, amazing stuff as usual guys. Here's to 2000, and iff the Maker's on my side, I might actually have something to join in with by then.

Okay, then.  I did manage to put together a one-shot Fic involving Cullen.  Please bear in mind, it was very difficult for me to write, mainly because Rion was my Mage playthrough character and I adored her.  But my canon Warden was a Cousland, and that will be the canon I carry through to Inquisition.  That leaves Rion one of those gorgeous characters from Origins who simply didn't survive the more terrible events in the story, sigh.

 

This scene is integral, then, to my Cullen's consideration and experience.  But it's rife with pain and torment.  Wasn't easy to write, not sure it'll be easy to read.  I rated it "M" on FF.net, for the violence of the scene.  So read with caution, if you don't like such shots.

This is so wonderful! I often forget how awful Cullen's time in the pink bubble was (we only really see the last moment), but your fic explores his experience from a far more personal perspective than the game mechanics afford. The lore portrays demons as very insidious, but our in-game dealings with them (especially in DA2) often reduce them to nothing more than the average baddie. In-game encounters don't do the best job showing how dangerous demons and abominations are supposed to be in this universe. Basically, they either reveal themselves immediately in an "ARG, I'm a demon!" moment, or they try to trick us in an area where the player is on guard for such deception (Let's see, I know from the previous scene that I'm in the Fade, so this friendly man over here... Yep! He's a demon).

 

Your fic, however, manages to do what the game rarely does: it shows the demon's more dangerous, more cunning side. Hopefully demons won't be used in random encounters this time around. I want them to feel dangerous and I think that's best done through dialogue or cutscenes rather than combat. Personally, I hope that there's at least one moment in the game where it's possible for a demon to truly trick or tempt the player for once (For example, if Torpor had offered me the opportunity to play the rest of the game with one of Hawke's siblings in the party, I, the player, would have been far, far more tempted to accept his offer).

 

Finally, I hope Cullen's experiences are far more pleasant in Inquistion. The poor man deserves a break! By the end of your story I was tearing up just thinking of all the torture he was enduring. I trust Rion treated him well once she finally found him?

That would make a lot of sense actually. Like when they used Galadriel to narrate the lotr movies it was because she was one of the only people who had "been there" and seen everything from the start. The same goes for Cullen and the whole mage vs templar conflict and where it has led doesn't it?

So, I haven't posted in here for a day or so, which is A LONG TIME in Cullen thread time!

 

I am so excited about E3! I am also excited because it turns out the DAI artbook is going to release two months prior to the game! So i can spoil myself and get excited for the game in early August.

 

Also, I am currently reading The Masked Empire and I totally get what everyone was mentioning about poor Bann Teagan. Although the fight with feathers was pretty hilarious. Enjoying the book!

I have faith in Bioware as far as Cullen's romance goes and I think that Jennifer Helper wrote one of the characters in DAI, at least partially before she left Bioware. I know she credited writing a companion for DAI on her work resume on LinkedIn. So it will be neat to see if we ever find out who that is. Does anyone know who wrote Cullen previously? Gaider? Or not?

Sheryl Chee wrote the Circle of Magi, and Cullen as well. Then Jennifer Hepler wrote him for DAII, along with Elthina and Sebastian, I think.
