Huh, that is so interesting. I didn't know that the Grey Wardens only have one mage at a time. I wonder if that's still true.

Maybe it's one per unit?

Hmm, I wonder what sort of thing Cullen would give to Quizzy?  I would wonder about the other characters, but I don't know enough about them yet.

I could see him going down the romantic and/or the practical route.  Like, he doesn't know what to give the inquisitor, so he gets him/her something like a personalised whetstone for their sword/daggers or something for their staff.

Book is the best gif. I wonder which book though. Something historical maybe, like the biography of King Maric. "They say Maric wasn't ready to be the king. He wasn't born a legendary hero, but with the help of people who believed in him he became one. I think you will enjoy reading this. (awkward pause) Um, that's all, goodnight. "

You have been given the difficult task of writing all of Cullen's dialogue.

How would you present this character?

What changes would he make from DA2 to DAI?

How would you make him interact with The Inquisitor and companions?

What impact would he have on the story?

Would you make him a potential party member?

If yes, what would his unique companion combat specialisation tree be?

"How would you present this character?"

Hmm, so many choices. Physically speaking, I would introduce him to the narrative as a rebel leader, perhaps leading a faction of templars/former templars against red templars or pro-Lambert templars. The inquisitor and co. meet him during a battle OR perhaps have to rescue him from enemy headquarters. Mentally/Emotionally speaking, I would present him as a character who has matured a great deal and has a new resolve, but someone who can admit that he still isn't sure who is right and who is wrong at this point.

"What changes would he make from DA2 to DAI?"

From the end of DA2 to the beginning of DAI, I don't see a big change. That's because I think the "big change" happens throughout the course of DA2 and culminates in the final scenes. I'd like to see a man who still wrestles internally with the big issues but who still carries with him a strong sense of duty and faith.

"How would you make him interact with The Inquisitor and companions?"

How do I see him interacting with my inquisitor; well I wrote a couple fanfics about that  As for the other companions, I see him pressing his lips together a lot so as not to say what he REALLY thinks. He's a steady, friendly sort, and I don't see him really clashing with anyone though. The obvious exception is Cole; I think we'll see the old fears rear their ugly head around Cole.

"What impact would he have on the story?"

His advice and experience would help shape the decisions the inquisitor makes. His presence would be most felt in the war room / around the strategy table. I believe his focus will shift from mages to demons, and he would counsel the inquisitor in such a fashion. He would be the first to encourage sparing innocents and might clash a bit with the more practical Cassandra. I would have his advice sometimes pan out well, but other times lead the inquisitor astray. I see him as having a personality and outlook on life similar to Brienne from GOT.

"Would you make him a potential party member?"

I'm torn on this! I actually always liked the idea of him NOT being a companion and simply doing his own thing (rather than following after the inquisitor like a flunky). I'll be happy with him as an NPC if he's an NPC of the same caliber as Joker in the ME series. It's too bad we never got a Joker romance *pause for tears and moment of silence* but if we had, I think it would have been on par with, if not better than, the other romances. A PC can have a great connection with an NPC, and I hope DAI will be like this with Cullen, and I think I would indeed prefer that to an actual companion.

"If yes, what would his unique companion combat specialisation tree be?"

Tbh I don't really care about stuff like that. Well, I'd say the tree should suit his personality, the way the DA2 ones did. So something regarding duty, honor, and faith. Something related to him being a tank. "Cullen's faith in the inquisition and its leader has strengthened, lending him *insert stat here*"

My Hawke became the Viscount of Kirkwall, you know.  But apparently left that task at some point following the opening days of the Mage-Templar War.  I honestly think Aveline eventually stepped into that role, leaving Cullen to take up the task of reorganizing the Templars and Mages as Knight-Commander.  This would leave him in a rather uncomfortable position following the events of "Asunder", actually.

I tend to think every Knight-Commander in Thedas would have to choose, once Lambert acted to dissolve the Accord and throw off Chantry authority over the Seekers and Templars -- they'd all have to decide which side of that fence they were going to land.  So if Cullen is Knight-Commander, I think he is going to struggle hard and long to do the right thing.  I personally feel Cullen has gained a rather level-headed appreciation for the careful dynamic between security for the Mages that the Circles are meant to provide versus the abuse of Templar power that's always possible given the chance.

I simply don't think Cullen is going to be any huge supporter of Lambert's agenda.  Plus, having seen the dangers of using Red Lyrium firsthand, he's going to eschew any motions within the Order to adopt such means.  I tend to think he'll try leading the Templars in Kirkwall for a time, to remain loyal to the Divine and the Chantry.  Whether he succeeds or not is a huge question mark, because that choice will put him on a collision course with Lambert and his bitter rivalry with Divine Justina.  Kirkwall could be another tinder match in that circumstance, perhaps ending with Cullen quite literally in trouble for his freedom or even his life.

But I do think he'll fight to maintain his honor and what he perceives as his duty.  I think whatever the Inquisitor offers will be a huge chance, in his view, at doing that.  It will be an opportunity to resolve the conflict, reorganize the flailing motions of a Chantry collapsing, and constituting some working order for the future.  He will throw himself at the opportunity, in my opinion.  And what he stands to offer is a huge, huge perspective, because having seen so many world-changing events right there and close will give the Inquisitor some amazing window into "what's worked and what hasn't worked" sorts of ideas.

I would really like it if he were a companion, yes.  I mean really like it.  Alistair was always one of my favorite companions in Origins, simply to have that magic-cleansing ability of his.  I'd honestly appreciate having a Templar in whatever group I'm running around with, for that single chance at minimalizing potential magical attacks.  If we're talking combat alone, mind you.  I also think there's some truly great opportunities for amusing dialogues as we're moving along, too.  He knew Varric, for instance.  They could banter back and forth about the events in Kirkwall.  And Cole?  I want to know what sort of arguments Cullen might have with Cole, shrug.

But that's just me, crossing my little fingers.  I'm sure I'll enjoy seeing him in game no matter what the Developers decide.  ... But I really want him fighting next to my Qwizzy, sigh.

Ah, funny, had I not gotten scared of that English exam 12 years ago, I would have been a professional translator today, perhaps working for EA Russia on translating Cullen text files. So I might have gotten the chance to actually write all his dialogue!
Now to the answers.
1. I think it would be similar to his DAII introduction, but a bit different, to give us the idea of how he has changed over the years, and what kind of a person he is now. I would make it an action scene, during which he is protecting somebody, and we can help him with it. Perhaps he's leading a small party/unit of soldiers/templars/mercenaries, and they are protecting a group of civil war refugees from bandits.
2. Not many. In DAO I would like to make his post-annulment dialogue accessible for both outcomes, because it's not related to the annulment, and would be perfect for the situation where the mages were spared. Without it his phrase about wanting to go and fight seems torn out of context. I would also add a bit for a mage PC: an option to express their personal feelings about what has happened in Kinloch Hold, and an option to troll/try to make peace/console Cullen. In DAII I would add Cullen's reaction to Hawke being a mage (Varric used the cover that Hawke was an Enchanter from another Circle already, that could have worked on Cullen too), also I would like a little background scene where Cullen is training/lecturing recruits in the courtyard of the Gallows, and maybe a couple of interactions between Cullen and other templars, to show what kind of relationships they have within the order.
3. I expect Cullen to be friendly and polite, perhaps a little suspicious of some of our companions. I really hope they will get along with Varric, and Varric will bring out the humorous part of Cullen's personality. Perhaps we can find them drinking and laughing together at Skyhold at some point. I also hope Cullen and Cassandra will have an amazing friendship, and sometimes we will be able to overhear them discussing things that are important to them on a personal level.
4. Impact on the story. It's the player who has the most impact on the story, and Cullen's role so far has been a witness, and that actually makes him a perfect advisor. So perhaps it's his advice that will have the impact?
5. Yes, I want him to be a party member. I even promised to sing a song about it if he is  Of course I want him to tank, and I want to hear his banter with other companions, and his comments about interesting things we find.
6. A mix of templar abilities and the Champion abilities: cleanse, smite, resistance to magic, rally and battle cry, something like that.
