Perhaps the raising of the Veil is what took the Gift from the majority of people and all of the dwarves.
OMG! That would be wonderfully logical. Certainly, if the Veil were gone... maybe everyone would be magical. Heh... there's a scenario for y'all. How would Cullen react to suddenly having magic as a result of the Veil being down...? dun dun dun...
I wonder if the corruption of lyrium in the Fade is as detrimental to people as it is in the real world. Better yet, does the presence of red lyrium affect normal people who dream? Would their dreams turn into nightmares?
Heh, I wonder if red lyrium is the macguffin/deus ex machina for DA:I. Instead of "a wizard did it!" it's "red lyrium did it!" ![]()

Well....as a templar, I'm still not 100% convinced he *doesn't* have magic. And thus, I'm willing to bet that if magic goes all willy-nilly, he will be affected-somehow or other.

I believe Templars hold magic of a sort, just not the Gift, as members of the Order were not born with such talents.Well....as a templar, I'm still not 100% convinced he *doesn't* have magic. And thus, I'm willing to bet that if magic goes all willy-nilly, he will be affected-somehow or other.

DG has admitted that templar skills are a form of magic, but it's not innate since they'll lose the ability without lyrium. So, yeah, I could see templar skills going all wonky.
What I was really thinking, tho, is how someone who thinks innate magical talent is so unstable would then react to being similarly unstable himself.

This would be an incredibly interesting thing to help him deal with. I'm already saying to myself, "Poor Cullen." Hah

Is it possible it's the lyrium that unlocks the *magical genes* that normally would lie dormant in a person? A templar is just a normal schlub like the rest of the non-mage community until he downs the lyrium, right?

LOL Agree.
I mean, just imagine the fun to be had by all the mages in the group who can see a templar get back some of his own. On the other hand, imagine the angst to be had when you see him freak out when he's unable to trust even himself. Hmmm....
This would, erm, be an interesting little story...
Rats.

I actually always suspected that templars have certain gifts. Maybe it's like force - sensitive people in Star Wars: they don't really have the power to cast fireballs, but with the training they can do some tricks. Except they are told magic is evil, and what they do is anti-magic.

I guess that would depend if his views towards magic would change throughout the game or not. I believe that Cullen as he is now would be really confused about his new role, after all he always though magic is dangerous and that mages should be protected from themselves and suddently he is one of them? Even if everyone is in the same situation as he would be i think he would still be very disturbed about it.

Considering how templars are recruited and trained I doubt that they have some kind of inner magic that the training unlocks: the templar abilities are thaught later in the training, according to Alistair. The lyrium gives templars those abilities. The fact that if they stop assuming it they'll lose them after sometimes is the proof.
Just because it goes away without regular lyrium intake doesn't necessarily mean you don't need some predisposition for it to work in the first place. That would actually be kind of cool. But then... the descriptions of templar recruitment from the BW blogs make it sound like they take any heavy who'll enlist. So, sadly, unlikely.

It sure would be a huge cover up though if everyone did have the potential for magic and the Chantry knew all about it.

It would be awesome if everyone had the potential and maybe lyrium helps hook you up to the Fade juice. Then, if Veil rips, everyone is hooked up? I still love this idea. Suddenly, every damn fool is shooting lightning at every other damn fool.

Shouldn't mages have more power and energy from the veil being torn asunder? I would think so.
I would also expect so.

I think one can mark the point in each game's dev cycle where the writers stopped just being punchy and lost their goddamn minds.

I think mages have new spells relevant to the Veil now. The dodge that Vivienne showed at PAX looked like she was slipping into the Veil and out rather than rolling on the floor. Also, I'd suspect the Rift Mage specialisation to also reflect the Tear.

I don't think there has been info about number of them but only two are revealed so far and there surely is going to be more. Since devs announced that there is going to be different sexualities most popular quess is 6 LI's, two heteros, two gays and two bi's to make it fair for everyone. 6 would be nice in my opinion too
Yeah, I think that six LIs is pretty likely now that we know the LIs have set sexualities.
If there were only four, then a player with a gender preference would have only one option of their preferred gender. Even setting aside the issue of whether there will be race and class restrictions, which would further complicate the situation, presumably the LIs still require some sort of approval. If your one potential LI was not compatible enough with your character that you could get high enough approval to initiate the romance, you'd be locked out of the romances completely unless you changed your own character (whether by making them bisexual when you didn't plan to or by making them more compatible with your single LI option,) which kind of defeats the purpose of RPGs having choices for the player.
I realize this was the case for players who wanted a same-sex romance in DAO, but it seems like the writers already acknowledged that it wasn't a good arrangement. I don't see any reason for them to take something that admittedly didn't work well and apply it more broadly this time.
Obviously there's no way to give the player infinite choice when it comes to LIs, but giving the player two options (a character with the same orientation and a bisexual character) increases the chances that at least one of them will be compatible.

I believe that the Nerd Appropriate podcast mentioned that the ability was more akin to a "Blink", not actually involving the Fade.
