Hey guys, about to get serious here for a minute. 

 

 

A couple days after E3 I'll be going in for some pretty invasive surgery, just wanted to let you guys know so you don't think I left the thread or anything. I'm not sure when I'll be conscious enough to get online, so don't think I died if it's been 2 weeks. It's pretty low risk, but long recovery, so I'll probably miss so much it'll take forever to catch up on the news. If someone could volunteer to send me links to videos, tweets, and credible articles I'd be super grateful.

It sounds kinda cruel, but I really hope Cullen does have at least one gnarly looking scar. I mean, he's a seasoned warrior that's been battling demons and blood mages for years... not to mention the Meredith battle which would've undoubtedly caused some physical scarring. Ideally I'd like to him with scars exactly like the ones in that picture above because that's hot as hell!

A bit of offtop, but I just had this mental image of Sebastian baking waffles early in the morning in Haven (he is on a vacation there), and then he hears the BOOOM, and he runs to the window to see what's happened, and sees that the Temple of Sacred Ashes exploded, and everyone inside probably died, and he drops the waffles, and screams, "MAKER NOOOOO!" Poor thing.

Yeah, I noticed that the scar across his eye pops up in a lot of different fanart... come to think of it so does his lip scar, often together. I love that! Not gonna lie, I'm gonna be a little disappointed if neither scar makes it onto his new face model, although from that tiny picture shown in the trailer it does look like he's got one on his lip, which is better than nothing!

Just now saw this.  Jeeze, man, ever how long you'll be incapacitated, you know we're all going to miss you like crazy.  You'll just have to bring us as much joy as possible before the surgery, and then hurry the hell up on the getting better part.   Seriously, I will be keeping you in my thoughts, hoping that all goes well.

Cullen was chilling out in the library, eavesdropping on the mages, because that's how you get all the best gossip in Kinloch Hold, at the same time Uldred started his thing, and one templar tried to get away and warn the rest of his brothers. Unfortunately, he was cursed by the walking bomb curse, so he only managed to get to Cullen before he exploded, and the shard of his helmet nearly left Cullen with just one eye. Cullen, of course, decided to die a hero (he had his reasons), and ended up in a cage. It was in my comic here. Shameless self-promotion, because I love Petra's face there

I like the second scar too. Now I need a story about it. Maybe his first encounter with the Red Templars?  It was a surprise, and he didn't expect to be punched in the face with a red-lyrium something by people who he thought were his friends.

Maybe the first one on his lip he got as a young recruit before he'd fully honed his skills as a warrior during training. And the big one he got from the Meredith battle or something?

I definitely feel like there should be some sort of physical reminder of Cullen's battle against Meredith on his being since it was a pretty big deal, especially surrounding his story arc so far. Plus, that massive scar down his face would be the perfect unique feature for his new model. Hell, the devs said that the companions/characters physical appearance is meant to tell it's own story, right? Well, that's the perfect facial feature for Cullen's!

Just as a friendly reminder, we need to keep the Artist and ideally a link to the artist with their art when it gets REposted here. It's too easy for their stuff get to reused without permission or credit, so it's the least we can do for them giving their gift and hard work away to us for free!

I kind of feel bad because it looks like I want Cullen to be slashed across the face with a sword. But it will make him look so cool! Or hot. Or both. You can be both cool and hot at the same time, right?

 

And I headcanon that since Meredith impaled Cullen on her demonic sword, he has a huge ugly scar, but it can only be seen when you do this

Agreed! Varric's DAI face model is incredibly detailed and unique, he's even got what looks like a burn across he jawline, it all tells a story, it also fits well given all the fighting he done over 7+ years in Kirkwall with Hawke 'n' co. Cassandra has her scars too, even her eye makeup tells a story (the devs posted up a blog entry about how they created her unique look and apparently the way she does her makeup is meant to symbolise aspects of her personality too... I forget what). Vivienne has no visible scars at all but it totally makes sense for her character, firstly she's a mage so she's almost always attacking from the rear and therefore not directly in the line of fire, and secondly she's clearly very looks orientated so even if she did have scars I could imagine she'd probably cover them with makeup or cast a spell to heal/remove them or whatever. Hell, Iron Bull has a feckin' eye missing!

 

Clearly that's the sort of approach the devs wanted to take with the companions, I just hope that the same rules would apply to the advisors too especially if they're as important as they claim. Leliana didn't appear to have any visible scarring on her new DAI model but she does have freckles... although looking at her picture blown up big it does kinda look like she has the faintest hint of a scar below her cheek but that could just be the lighting. Regardless, her physical appearance is still very distinctive, there's no mistaking her for a minor npc. Judging from the tiny little images we saw of Cullen and "Scribbles" (the woman in gold and blue) the one that looked the least developed out of the two was Scribbles, but you can't really tell from a distance. I just really want them to do Cullen's character justice- not just from a story/romance point of view, but with his physical appearance too.

Yes! Give him all the sexy scars! ALL OF THEM!

Ugh, even if his romance is bloody awful and underdeveloped, it'll be difficult to romance anyone else if that's the case.

This would be a cool reminder of the past and something our Inquisitor could ask about to learn about him. Given the imperfections they can now add, I also hope they give him some, too.

But seriously, it would certainly make for a conversation piece! The Inquisitor could have the option to ask him at some point and he'd touch the scar with a pained expression on his face and recount the situation.

 

... See, now I have this scene running through my head of the conversation occurring during the "wooing" stage where the Inquisitor perhaps touches his cheek and runs her/his finger across it which causes him to flinch, noticing his reaction she/he apologises thinking that she/he had read the "signs" wrong and he'd stutter out that it's not "that" and tells her the story (ideally accompanied by flashbacks scenes, but that's just what I'd do if I wrote for BioWare).

He'll probably say, "Claws of an abomination/ just got stabbed once/ wasn't fast enough with the shield," and will change the subject. Maybe he doesn't like to remember how it happened. But it would be really cool if after you are "married", the option to ask about scars popped up again, and this time he would tell the story.

That's why it would work better during the wooing phases, like when they're close to making it a thing or maybe during the scene where they become a thing.
