You can do the whole tracing the scars with your fingertips bit in the CG scene. Bet that would be popular. Not sure why women find that fascinating, perhaps you could enlighten me.

Agreed! Varric's DAI face model is incredibly detailed and unique, he's even got what looks like a burn across he jawline, it all tells a story, it also fits well given all the fighting he done over 7+ years in Kirkwall with Hawke 'n' co. Cassandra has her scars too, even her eye makeup tells a story (the devs posted up a blog entry about how they created her unique look and apparently the way she does her makeup is meant to symbolise aspects of her personality too... I forget what). Vivienne has no visible scars at all but it totally makes sense for her character, firstly she's a mage so she's almost always attacking from the rear and therefore not directly in the line of fire, and secondly she's clearly very looks orientated so even if she did have scars I could imagine she'd probably cover them with makeup or cast a spell to heal/remove them or whatever. Hell, Iron Bull has a feckin' eye missing!

Clearly that's the sort of approach the devs wanted to take with the companions, I just hope that the same rules would apply to the advisors too especially if they're as important as they claim. Leliana didn't appear to have any visible scarring on her new DAI model but she does have freckles... although looking at her picture blown up big it does kinda look like she has the faintest hint of a scar below her cheek but that could just be the lighting. Regardless, her physical appearance is still very distinctive, there's no mistaking her for a minor npc. Judging from the tiny little images we saw of Cullen and "Scribbles" (the woman in gold and blue) the one that looked the least developed out of the two was Scribbles, but you can't really tell from a distance. I just really want them to do Cullen's character justice- not just from a story/romance point of view, but with his physical appearance too.

Maybe Solas's hair was burnt off when he was young while playing with fire. :P
(I think I just made a headcanon) :D

I suspect for the first time ever in a Dragon Age game I'm actually gonna have trouble deciding who my favourite LI is. I desperately want it to be Cullen, but I dunno man they're all looking mighty tempting right now and that's without even knowing their personalities or who's romanceable!

I know. So far I like the look of all of them, but until we meet everyone, we won't really know. Not that I think anyone will take #1 first romance spot away from Cullen. Just too damn curious to do anything else the first playthrough!

I wouldn't say it's an "all women like this" kind of thing. I'd say it's just an anyone wanting to get to know anyone thing, and something like scars tell a story. Plus touching is touching. 'Nuff said.

That's why it would work better during the wooing phases, like when they're close to making it a thing or maybe during the scene where they become a thing.

It would be interesting as a "gate," for lack of a better word, to getting to really know him. Who knows why he might or  might not want to share. But sharing about anything more would be  a cool indicator that you're getting somewhere.

I think it only works that way in fiction. I had that moment IRL, and my man freaked out about it. Why would I want to touch that or talk about it? :) And later when I found out how he got his scars, I decided to leave them alone.

So maybe that's why I'm not looking forward to see such scene. Scars usually have unpleasant experience behind them.

But I do want to see scars on Cullen as a reflection of that experience, and the battles he fought in the past; I want to see on him the reflection of the events that shaped him into the person he is now.

Yeah, perhaps asking him as a friend would get you a less emotional answer. Like, he'd still tell you what happened if you asked, but he wouldn't go into as much detail or portray the type of emotional reaction when telling it as he would with someone he's got feeling for.

Yeah, I had a similar experience once. Hell, maybe Cullen's scar is something he's proud of? Symbolising the moment he took a stand, and he'd proudly tell the story of how he took down his old boss. Doesn't always have to have a stigma attached... I bet Iron Bull is proud of his scars, he sounds like the sort who would be!

Plus, would it even make sense to ask a soldier how he got scars? Unless they're in a really weird place, or unless the character had ready access to magical healing and refused it, the answer would probably be obvious.

I dunno, I think curiosity would get the better of me even if it's obvious that it was in battle... of course, I wouldn't go up to a complete stranger and ask because that's rude, I'd do it if the topic came up in conversation or something.

The thing is, it's a game not real life and Cullen has A LOT of unanswered questions that need answering (including the Meredith thing) so if he really did have a whacking great scar down the side of his face it would stand to reason (from a in-game pov) that we'd likely get to ask about how he got it. Like it wouldn't surprise me if we're able to ask Iron Bull how he lost his eye.

It looks like it was clawed out by an animal, I bet he lost his eye from a kitten attack. :P

Hmm, I'm Cullen-scar-neutral. In fanart I like them because it's people putting their own spin on him, but in the actual game I'd worry about it coming off like an '80's comic book cliche. Maybe if they're very subtle? (EDIT: Or just not on his face.)

I suppose it depends on how it looks. I like the scars they've added to Varric, Iron Bull and Cassandra, but obviously a scar for the sheer hell of it would seem a bit daft. I doubt we'd get one across the eye on Cullen anyway given that Iron Bull has that covered to the extreme with his missing eye. Still, I'd like to see something on Cullen since he's a warrior and I'd like him to look as unique as the others.

Yes, Cullen's reaction to the question could reveal something about his personality. There may or may not be a story behind it after all.

Will the Inquisitor ask? I think it depends on the scar (and the Inquisitor). For example, in that case I mentioned, I only asked, because I was a medical student, and the scar looked like nothing I've seen before, and I had no idea what could have left a scar like that. For example, I wouldn't ask Cassandra about hers, because it's pretty obvious that it was from a knife or a sword, and she's a fighter. But I would ask Varric about how he got his nose broken, and I would definitely ask Iron Bull to marry me about his eye (when he's in good mood). If Cullen has a tiny scar across his lips, I wouldn't bother to ask, but if he has claw marks on his neck, or a scar from Meredith's sword on his abs, I would interrogate him about it! :)
