Oh my gosh that's right! So much has happened, I totally forgot he said he'd tweet us a picture!

And ask about Cullen's last name.

I like Cullen as a LI but, honestly, I kind of fear for his availability to both genders more so if he's an NPC romance. It seems like maybe he's more of a 5th extra, like Sebastian, who was straight only. I'm only really interested in the m/m available LIs, so Cullen seems suspect right now.

If Cullen is just an NPC romance, his arse will have to wait until after my first playthrough. After all, getting to drag the LI through battle and see them react to events while right in the thick of it becomes part of the romance arc.  :wizard:

Edit: Don't get me wrong, though! I'm glad he's an LI and all. He'll just have to wait for his turn, because an NPC LI will definitely not be my first Inquisitor's romance arc.

Well,my first playthrough will be a character, who I think will have a more interesting relationship with someone like Cass or Cullen...Esp Cullen! So I'll  probably end up romancing him first anyway. :P

[FLAILY HANDS] Yes please! Acknowledgement is one of my favorite things about doing a romance in Bioware games. Varric side-eyeing Anders was great. And the Zevran-Shale conversation about Zevran sleeping with the Warden is my favorite dialogue of all time. Give me some of that, and I will be pleased.

Companion or not,I want Varric to give him a nickname!

And that is a completely valid way to play the game!

I just don't want my very first experience with the game and story to involve an NPC romance that may, or may not, get the full acknowledgement and reactions a companion romance will have -- especially when companion romances would obviously have priority where the romance budget is concerned. So if Cullen is just an NPC option, I'll pick one of my other planned characters that will fit with someone else for my first playthrough and leave him for either my second or third playthrough. Depends who the finals options are. *scratches chin*

I plan to romance Cullen first no matter what. In theory, perhaps it would be better to romance him first if he's an NPC simply because we have no idea what to expect from the companion romances the first time around so we can't compare and complain that it's lacking, which could potentially ruin his romance completely if doing it the second time around.

New thread! Yay!

As for Cullen being awkward, I like awkward. I think it's cute.

Don't be upset. We still get to romance him, companion or no! Plus w/ the amount of dialogue it seems that Greg Ellis has recorded, we'll be getting a lot of chances to talk and interact with him. That's so much more than we ever thought we would get when we first started speculating over his role in Inquisition, just try to focus on that for now ^_^

While I would prefer him as a companion, the one thing that could make an NPCmance better is that you won't have all the extraneous exploration dialogue that eats into a companions word budget. Plus, I've been thinking back to Origins and the romance dialogue and scenes that were memorable and special, to me at least, all happened at camp anyway, sooo....yeah....I'm basically trying to find a silver lining to him being an NPC only, not sure iff I'm convincing myself yet lol

True! But at the same time I'd hate for the first experience through the game to have moments where I'm all "wow, but what if the LI was there? Would there be any comments??"

I want Varric to give him a nickname and dialogue like this...

Varric: So...you and Hawke?
Fenris: What about us?
Varric: I want to make sure I get all the details right when I tell this story. Did you sweep her off her feet or was it the other way around?

Fenris: I'm not telling you anything but this: There was no actual sweeping involved.

What's important to me at this point is that the game will recognize a Cullen romance, unlike what they did for Sebastian or Tallis or Vega or whoever else I'm missing. If there's an emotional moment where my Inquisitor needs to be comforted, or even a kiss before the final battle of the game, these little things help to feel like they are actually in a relationship, ya know? A bit of companion banter about it doesn't hurt also  :P

Yeah, if someone dies on me and he doesn't show up to comfort me... hmm...  <_<

Cullenception?!

Being my first post in this new thread, I may as well say what I think about Cullen in general. I'm hoping he'll be available to romance as a male character, though if he sticks to women I won't mind - my Dwarf lady-archer will climb that like a Christmas tree. I shall have Cullen, one way or another.

OK... this terminology is starting to drive me a bit batty... all romances are NPC romances, right? All companions are also NPCs. We're really talking about non-follower/non-party member romances.

That's a really good point... this is going to sound odd but the first playthrough is special so it's important to me to pick a good LI to share that with.  Subsequent playthroughs are still exciting, but you'll never get to go through it for the first time again.  I swear I'm still talking about the game :P

I'll most likely romance a man since my first PT is usually based off me, but it'll be REALLY hard to decide if they include Solas or DHMG as the other LI :/  Grrr, but Cass is awesome too.  DAMN IT BIOWARE, why do all your characters have to be so cool?

I've been using NPC for non-companions and... companions for companions.

Well technically, NPC stands for "non-playable/player characters" or a character that cannot be controlled, which companions are playable/controllable by the player. So NPC is a correct term to use in this case
