I must say, I hope he's not 'Oghren funny' because I did not find him funny at all. Sera I'm not worried about, since she seems more bad pun, knock knock and dirty joke funny which I'm all for.
Seconded. Or thirded... or whatever we're up to now.
Oghren may have been the least funny character the writers have come up with. Sure, who doesn't love a good fart joke, but they make it seem as if the entire reason that Oghren is a steaming pile of body-function humor is because he's drunk literally all the time. Alcoholism is an incurable disease that ultimately kills many of its victims and destroys the families of many more. There is nothing funny about that, and there never was.
But if IB likes bathroom humor when he's sober... dunno. I've always preferred snark to slapstick, but I'll have to play it by ear. Zevran could pull off the bodily humor because he was witty enough to make it sound clean(ish). I guess we'll find out in a little over 18 weeks.
K 1st of all sorry for bursting out like that, guess sometimes stress from work just makes me pretty B!tchy and I just take it with me at home and thats not how it should be.
But anyways, I guess what I was trying to say is, .. that yes even tho that he might be a mercenary and no longer with the qun, and even tho he might act as a different person around other ppl just to fit in doesn't mean he still doesn't have his own..." hidden personality" as in like from where he came from like for example Im from a different country and I have my own "rules" on things I grew up in, a different culture.
But when I moved to a different country that has completely different "rules"/ customs, I have tried to comply to them but that doesn't mean I forgot where I come from or my culture no matter where I go or who I hang out with.. sure I may try to act different just so I could fit in, but that doesn't necessarily make me who I am Im just putting out a fake face just to get accepted into something I am not.
That is not to say that IB *is* something like that, I guess its just the way I see him as.... that maybe somewhere deep inside he is not what he seems to be even if he is trying to put up an act of a happy go lucky guy.. maybe perhaps deep down he is not really happy?.. Idk or perhaps im just feeling dramatic tonight and just want to argue about dumb stuff... either way... it was just a thing ..that I had a different impression about IB that maybe he is not so happy and jolly and he may have a tragic past and tht he may try to hide it with humor
Nice analysis Adela! To be honest I remember something along the lines that he was not afraid of anyone except the past, the qun maybe...Although this also applied for Isabela,Varric and Zev they were humorists, but all three of them had a rather tragic background.
To be honest what I really want to see is a 3 dimensional character with flaws and and interesting personality.
And don't worry about it,as a student I know first hand what stress can do to sb's mood.

I agree, besides the Dalish are way too interesting for me to hate!

BioWare writers have a gift for showing the tender underbellies of the hardest badasses, and I can easily imagine a character using humor to deflect, or as a means of forgetting an unhappy past, so this may be right.
At this point, I'm hoping for dark sarcasm and gallows humor rather than whoopie cushions, however. I guess we'll find out.
Oh, and don't feel as if people are ignoring your posts even if they don't quote them. Sometimes, people just hit reply to the most recent post that expresses an opinion. Other times, they look for brevity, or elaboration, or any number of things. Sometimes, the post just says all it needs to say already. It doesn't mean that people are ignoring it. ![]()

I'm doing a playthrough of DA2 at the moment and forgot just how bashful Cullen was
I wish I could have seen him get all flustered trying to interrogate the ladies at the brothel.

Bleh, I'm still not too pleased with how a bunch are plenty racist. And
I wonder if there's some kind of support group for companions and NPCs. Can you imagine the meetings?
"...and then we had to climb a mountain and next thing you know we're fighting a dragon and getting naked in a temple! I couldn't look at the Warden for a week!"
"You think that's bad? I was kidnapped by red templars and oh Maker, the EYES!"
LOL I love this.
"Hello, my name is Cullen."
"Hello Cullen."
"I'm just really excited I get the chance for a bigger role this time after, um, well, after that time the writers told everyone I was a creepy, hair brushing stalker."
*nodding heads around the room*
I think the important question here is: where would you holiday? Is Cullen a beachgoer (surfer cullen!), a mountain man who likes to ski? or a cosy cabin in the woods man?
Can't resist but answer this question: Cullen Does Thedas

I guess I see Cullen exhibiting their practical traits ("He will build you a table and then have sex with you on it. ) but with a bit Old Spice guy thrown in for fun.
Yesssss!!
Because MrBob took a tour around the BioWare studios the other week and the devs told him, lol.
It was also in his character description from the survey leak.
Hehe, for when the spoiler didn't work! Hehe

As for my opinions on the Dalish, it's like how I feel about characters like Petrice. I like the character even though I totally disagree with what they want to do, their beliefs, etc. It's not as extreme for them, but still, I feel like there's better people for the elves.
I'd say that aside from their religion, they're not that different from the city elves, after all.
They both have a similar form of social hierarchy: Hahren(CE) and Keeper(DE) and a strong sense of community.
Also while some of the Dalish look down on the "non-Dalish" elves, the city elves particularly the ones that live in the alienage look down on the "non-alienage" elves that were raised among humans.
Then again both factions are way too diverse to compare them as a whole and that's pretty much the reason why I love the elves in the DA universe.
LOL I love this.

Yeah if I could go to cons and possibly even cosplay I totally would give it a try. I just don't have the money, transportation or resources available to do so. That and I'd have no idea what to expect or do and likely stand off in a corner and creepishly stare at people.
Plus 10/10 chance I'd get told off for liking "mainstream" manga/anime at an Anime Con anyways.

I don't see them as really racist... well, it's like accusing an oppressed ethnic minority of being racist. Okay, probably. But... I can see why lol
I wasn't talking about how he looks I was more referring to his culture in witch he grew up in, I know im not the most likeable person in this thread and everyone hates/ most ppl ignore my posts but I was just expressing my opinion.
That to me it seemed odd that a ex Qunari would behave in such a way considering that he has grown up in a certain kind of culture even if he "escaped" from it, he would still have some sort of "strict" rules to him
Wait... wut??? Coming in late, but I think everyone was being rather responsive and respectful. I certainly hope you don't think this is true, because I don't think there's any evidence for it.
Part of the thing with Iron Bull is that... it seems he was just written that way, to be anti-qunari in his personality. His survey leak told us he was this way for over a year now, so I guess for some it's not feeling like a surprise at this point.
"The Iron Bull:
The Iron Bull is a long way from home, and prefers it that way.
A slap in the face of typically humorless Qunari, he loves drinking,
killing, and looting-not necessarily in that order. The head of a vicious
mercenary company, he’s known for excellent pay and brutal punishment.
It’s been a ten year party, but the Bull may find that old loyalties die
hard."

See that kinda stuff doesn't bother me; I'm too old to care what other people think, and I know I'd be freaking out and having such a good time, just wandering around and beaming at everything/everyone lol
But the money, yeah. I mean I had to cancel a PROFESSIONAL work conference this semester because I could not afford the plane ticket, so yeah. Cons are just not possible for me, at least, not these huge ones!

**** the people who tell you off for liking "mainstream" animes. They're assholes anyway.
And I'd love to cosplay as a genderbent Vivienne for a gaming con.

The racism cuts both ways, for both humans and elves. Just because they're an "ethnic minority" doesn't stop a group from being racist. Granted, I understand somewhat why they are racist, but that doesn't make it right, on either side.

I think I'd want to go as Link. I think it is mostly girls who cosplay as him anyways. ![]()

The vitriol towards humans I find understandable to a degree, but the "we're better than those flat-ears hnnng" attitude, that I find absolutely fracking ridiculous.

Racism aside, I just found I didn't like almost anyone by book's end. I felt those two ladies deserved each other.
I felt exactly that way. I spent a good part of the book not at all sure who the "good guys" were. By the end of the book, I was pretty sure there weren't any. ![]()

I sometimes feel like, hey, I'm a fan, too... but then I realize that I don't cosplay or do podcasts, and I sort of realize, okay, I'm not a fan like THESE guys. But then that makes me sad, because I WANT to be that kind of fan (I'm obsessed with Heroes of Cosplay now) but I don't have the time or money to do it, and also I'm sure there's laziness and lack of commitment on my part, and embarrassment... I could never tell anyone in my real life, oh sorry, I can't go to that movie I'm doing a podcast. I get so envious watching these cool people banter back and forth about the nerdy stuff I love. I want to be a part of that!!!!
Have you been watching the new season of Heroes of Cosplay? Did they just do a Dragon Age episode? I haven't watch the new season so far.

That probably means I'll love them then. My friend just told me the Lannisters are meant to be the baddies and I'm like what?! So yeah, I'll probably love Celene and Briala if/when I read TME, which I do want to do, but only after I've played Inquisition.
I dunno that it was as richly complex as the Lannisters of GoT. But certainly emotion evoking! I'll be curious to see what you think.
I just wanted to brush my hands of them, and instead go grabby hands on the new lore... and on Ser Michel.
(and maybe Felassen; who I keep calling Felessan in my Pern-addled brain).
