There's one thing I don't get: why do people who dislike the character bother to visit this thread? I mean, I get why trolls do it (for obvious reasons), but why do people who just hate/dislike him come here? If I dislike something I just don't go near it or waste my time talking about it.
The Official Cullen Discussion Thread v.3.0

I would understand it if they don't like him but want to discuss characters and their flaws while keeping an open mind about the other side of the discussion, because that's what discussions are about, right? But from what I've seen it's normally just a case of popping in to add a negative comment that can't be discussed or really thought about at all? I think?
It does leave me scratching my head at times. I guess because I normally just shrug and practice avoidance when I dislike something and because I haven't found a Bioware character that I've disliked with the burning passion of the sun. I can't even say I hate Udina or that one reporter from Mass Effect, because I can still appreciate what their characters mean in the narrative and think about where their character is coming from-- or appreciate how I can civilly hand them their arses. And sometimes I feel like the only one that doesn't hate Isolde and want her to die a horrible bloody death. ![]()

That is something I also have always wondered. It makes no sense at all, considering that there are so many delightful things from which to choose in entertainment and amusement. There really is absolutely no need to seek out the things you do not like or enjoy.

I don't mind Isolde, I mean she was a total b!tch to Alistair but she's a well written character, lol. Plus, I kinda love how irritated Teagan looks/sounds in DA2 having to accompany her to the Chateau Haine garden party, LOL!

Yeah, seems pointless. Like when they jump in and are like "I hate him, I'm going to kill him" or whatever (not directed at Wulfram btw), I dunno it just seems pointless since the thread is full of fans who don't really care if other people dislike him, lol.

It seems to be an issue with the map. Here's the other version:
SpoilerRedcliff dominates Gherlen's pass, which is apparently the only way through the Frostback mountains.
Ganking stuff from the twitter thread! Which makes that codex entry about Redcliff make a little more sense? I'm not entirely sure about the context of this map, though. Whether it's old historically or whether the map has been changed since DA:O. Whatever the case is, someone picked up Redcliffe and moved the thing.

Can I ask your guys opinion on the "Cullen is Fiona's son" subject? I've literally just heard about it, and I'm sure it's been talked about before, but I'm really curious about it.

That brings up a good point, though. I really do think that some people believe that if they crash our party, so to speak, that it's going to somehow ruin our fun or steal our joy, when nothing could be further from the truth. While it's irritating when trolls or haters show up, there's really nothing they can say that's going to negate the fact that Cullen has a substantial role in this game and as a wonderful bonus, we are going to get to climb him like a tree. So, yeah, my joy is pretty much the Rock of Gibraltar at this juncture...

So, according to that map, Ostagar would be in the Hinterlands?

There was a pointless comment in one of LadyxInsanity's videos where the guy posts that he hates Cullen, that he's going to kill him and that he's a "h o m o". I told the kid to go cry me a river, LOL! ![]()

This is a thing? Fiona obviously had a son, but I'm willing to lay all my sovereigns on it being a different well known blondish Ferelden, personally.
I am telling you. If Cullen ends up being a Theirin...

Then don't take any of the advice he offers, or don't bother talking to him. I presume we'll have the option to not have to talk to companions/advisors, like we could in the previous games... hell, maybe you'll get lucky and recruiting him as an advisor will be optional.
From my understanding, the advisors are effectively running a 3rd of the Inquisition each, and thus are unlikely to be ignorable. Nor would ignoring him address the issue
If your subsequent post is related to mine, I don't dislike Cullen. I just think that having gone on a crazy murderous rampage would make having him in a senior post of an organisation my character is charge of hard to justify. I wouldn't want the Warden to trust Sten with such a post either, though earning redemption as a companion worked.

I personally don't believe it and prefer the idea that her son is Alistair-- actually, I really dislike the idea of Cullen being another Theirin boy. It doesn't seem needed and wouldn't really add anything to his story. I think it would take away from it, actually? It would shift focus from what he's been through and his own journey to 'Maric couldn't keep it in his pants'.
That and it feels like Cullen getting involved in those dragon blood shenanigans would just... add an excuse to how he's survived what he's been through? Suddenly he's not a strong person because he's a strong person but a strong person because he's a part of that bloodline.

Naw, wasn't aimed at you it just reminded me of a comment on YouTube I'd seen earlier in the day (mentioned it wasn't in one of my posts, lol).
You saw that article too? The Ausgamer one interviewing Cameron Lee? I literally only discovered it yesterday, interesting to get a little more insight on why the Inquisition is brought back.

Naw, I doubt he is. Chances are he doesn't have a Surname at all. I'd love to know if GE's tweet about it was literally that the devs had told him that he had no Surname, or if it was just a fan who told him and he was just assuming it to be fact?

I'd be perfectly fine with him just being some generic dude caught up in unfortunate circumstances.

I'd like to know as well. In the end, I'd like to know if he has a surname/what it is just for curiosity's sake. It's the same way I feel about Anders' name. It'd be neat to know, but doesn't make any real difference to anything for me. ![]()

That's an good point. When I recruited Sten I didn't know what to think of him, but by the end of the game I didn't thought twice before saying: "Sten, lead the defense while we go after the Archdemon!"
I'm willing to wait and see what they do with Cullen, but I still have a lot of bitter memories with him, especially with Bethany.

I don't really believe it, but I'm not sure how I'd react if it was true. I think I prefer the idea of Cullen having a more humble background (ie being an orphan or simply coming from a normal family), but if Bioware can make the story good and make it fit then 'tis all good ![]()

Thanks! There were some amazing entries that I saw posted on YouTube, and then there's the people who entered that didn't post theirs up publicly. I don't think I stand a chance, but then I don't think it would be fair or right if I did win because the devs have done enough for me already, Plus, if I won then people would only think it was just because they know me.
All I hope is that whoever wins is a genuine fan of the franchise and not just some voice actor/wannabe voice actor trying to break into the industry.
Actually Lola, I gotta say that you never really know. Sometimes the voice director (or in this case, the judges) hear something special or unexpected, or even exactly what they expect. It's so subjective. Even if you think you hear renditions that are "better" than yours, in the end they may not share your opinion. They might like yours better! lol

This is the reason why I loved Hawke. I LIKE normal guys and girls that just get caught up in bullcrap they then have to deal with. I'm going to try and play my Inquisitor as close to that as I can. ![]()
In fact I REALLY hope I have the choice to make the reason my character was in the area 'I was lootin' the place and then the thing happened'.
