I don't think knowing if he has a surname will really mean much to me either. Unless it is something that carries a lot of weight.
I mean, when I found out Fenris' real name was Leto I didn't really think twice about it, iykwim.

Ganking stuff from the twitter thread! Which makes that codex entry about Redcliff make a little more sense? I'm not entirely sure about the context of this map, though. Whether it's old historically or whether the map has been changed since DA:O. Whatever the case is, someone picked up Redcliffe and moved the thing.

My first thought was 'he either named Fenris after the Greek Goddess or the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars.'
I'msosorry.
Edit: Actually the Greek character fits oddly well thanks to the links with wolves. ![]()
This is a thing? Fiona obviously had a son, but I'm willing to lay all my sovereigns on it being a different well known blondish Ferelden, personally.
I am telling you. If Cullen ends up being a Theirin...
*snip table flipping*
Welllll....

I jest...I think.
I agree with everyone else. I don't think he's Fiona's son either. But that was fun anyway.... ![]()
Hmm, I think I really like the idea of either him being an orphan in the Chantry and telling our Inquisitors what that was like, or just being from a normal family and wanting to leave to become the Templar. Meh, basically anything that paints him as a guy who could have been common but decided he wanted to do some good in the world.

But what would an DA LI be without the excessive emotional baggage?

Haha, I'm sure he's had enough emotional trauma in the last few years to last a good number of lifetimes ![]()
It's raining here today, so I am using the time inside to actually write some Cullen stuff (well, my Inquisitor-Dalish lady archer, Asaviel Lavellan and Cullen)
I personally don't believe it and prefer the idea that her son is Alistair-- actually, I really dislike the idea of Cullen being another Theirin boy. It doesn't seem needed and wouldn't really add anything to his story. I think it would take away from it, actually? It would shift focus from what he's been through and his own journey to 'Maric couldn't keep it in his pants'.
That and it feels like Cullen getting involved in those dragon blood shenanigans would just... add an excuse to how he's survived what he's been through? Suddenly he's not a strong person because he's a strong person but a strong person because he's a part of that bloodline.
Exactly this.
(also, I'd hate for it to turn into Once Upon a Time and suddenly everyone has to be related to everyone.)

SpoilerTo actually be on topic though-I also very much like the idea of Cullen having humble beginnings and his having made a conscious choice to do good, to do that which is right. It's appealing to me, to be honest.
I'm out of likes (ie they're just being douche bags), but just know that made me giggle ^.^
It's still bullshit though, since the road still totally misses Redcliffe and goes straight from Orlais in the west to Denerim in the east.
I don't think the road to Orlais is where the arrow is, though? Instead the road is through Gherlen's Pass, which, on that map, Redcliffe is right next to? Unless I'm reading the map wrong, which is quite possible.
Maybe he's like the Commander Shepard of Dragon Age or something. Meaning Cullen is his last name, and no one knows his first name because no one ever calls him by it, lol ![]()
Hell if Cullen got promoted to Knight Commander it would be even better haha

Well, technically speaking, the moment he relieved Meredith of her command he *became* Knight Commander, (Well, Acting Knight Commander) yes?
At least temporarily. ![]()

For a bit of context, this is the map from the Stolen Throne, which I believe I read that DG originally designed himself before the artists prettified it. So, it is old and I've seen some commentary on tumblr that there are a number of geographic flaws in the ways things are designed (like how rivers flow, etc).
It's still bullshit though, since the road still totally misses Redcliffe and goes straight from Orlais in the west to Denerim in the east.
FWIW, even the Ferelden codex entry that was cited disagrees with the "redcliffe" guards Ferelden idea.
"The Frostback Mountains guard the western border, and only a narrow plain between the mountains and the sea allows travel between Ferelden and Orlais." Note that this must be to the *north* of Lake Calenhad, not south. Heh.
So... maybe Brother Genitivi was also working from an old version of the map. ![]()
Then he'd be the Cullander
You may get out now.

Then he'd be the Cullander
This in combination with Wulfram's avatar is just too funny. I know that's supposed to be a deepstalker, but Maker, it reminds me of a shower head!
But what would an DA LI be without the excessive emotional baggage?
I think he's already got plenty of that without piling on more. That just ends up being a plot device then.

Is that what it is? I've never looked at their faces up close, I just thought they were little raptor dinosaurs or something. ![]()
Also just googled "deepstalker" and looked at images. Wish I didn't. ![]()

You're basically not allowed to be a character in Dragon Age (Or Mass Effect for that matter) unless
1. Someone close to you has died/dissapeared
and/or
2. You never knew your parent(s)
and/or
3. You have serious mommy or daddy issues
and/or
4. You're pretending to be someone you're not
and/or
5. Something/Someone from your past is haunting you
Take your pick!
