Why would he do that to an apostate who has shown no inclination towards harming people, when all Anders got for escaping the tower nearly a dozen times was solitary confinement?I usually think it's a bad idea to speak so definitively
In any case, short of executing her (which I can't see Meredith vehemently opposing), he could have opted to make her Tranquil.

What frustrates me is that his tightly held beliefs also nearly let Kirkwall burn to the ground via Meredith. Granted, he stood against her in the end, but that doesn't change the fact that he defended Meredith for quite a while.
Um, are you no longer a fan? I'm confused...
In any case... I don't see why this would be frustrating. If anything, it makes him only more complex and interesting. I've argued about WHY he's complex and interesting so many darn times in this thread that I'm not gonna repeat myself, especially since you're a regular so you know it all already
But yeah.

If you accept the quest "A Noble Agenda," you find out that the sentence for harboring an apostate is death. I can't imagine they'd be much gentler on the apostates themselves.
But then again, that was Kirkwall. They do things a little differently up there than they do elsewhere in Thedas, so you may very well be right.
I thought Morrigan said something about being hunted and killed by Templars for being apostates in DAO?

I'm the opposite! I'm very close with my sister and brother, and we don't fight. My sister and I are practically twins. So I relate more to the Bethany/Hawke relationship than the Carver/Hawke one. Carver just seems so mean, like he barely loves his brother/sister. It breaks my heart.
My sister and I *are* twins, and we fight all the time. Squabbling, rivalry, you name it. It's kind of a hard concept to grasp unless you've been in that kind of a relationship, but it's the love that allows you to speak your mind, even if the other person doesn't want to hear it.

I feel there's far more to Carver's character arc than Bethany's, especially if you put in the work to friendship him. Bethany, while I don't dislike her, feels like a rather... stagnant character. Grey Warden!Bethany goes through some changes and there's a character arc there, but it doesn't feel complete? Carver-- especially a Warden!Carver goes from an insecure boy who feels inadequate next to his older sibling (which is a HORRIBLE feeling, especially if it's accompanied by lingering doubts and the feeling that 'if my parents see such little worth in my accomplishments, why didn't they stop with my older sibling') to a man who has found himself and can stand on his own two feet. Add the friendship path to that, and you also have a story about recovering a relationship with his older sibling he'd thought would never be the same as it was when they were younger.
This! Max friendship GW Carver is brilliant, and I loved having him back for the DLC's. He grows so much as a person and is so supportive when you see him later in the game

Probably because she would of punished him if he didn't... I mean this IS Meredith we are talking about.

The question isn't Why would he do that? but rather, Could he do that? And I think the answer is yes.

I guess its just a sibling thing, like I have an older brother and sister and they always messed with me
some just get along and some just like to mess with eachother

Point. That piece of lore I was referring to was from DAO, in which we were dealing with a much more liberal Circle than the Gallows.

Aww that just makes me sad that. So even twins fight! I'm glad my sister and I don't fight. And she looks after me the way Hawke looks after Bethany
(Cause I'm the little sister.)

Oh no, I agree he could have gotten away with it. I was just saying that he had no reason to kill when she willingly went with him to the Circle and had shown no malevolent tendencies. The question isn't Why would he do that? but rather, Could he do that? And I think the answer is yes.

My sister is 9 years younger than me. She's my absolute polar opposite and every time we see each other we fight like cat and dog. Despite that, if she ever has a problem, she ALWAYS calls me, because she knows I'll never lie to her, and I'll always be there. We'll always be rivals of a sort I think, but I'd still do anything for her and I'd never change her

Exactly, which supports my point. Cullen could have handled the situation poorly, aggressively, and violently, but he did not. And yet, people still hate him for this one scene. Pardon me for saying this, but it's a stupid reason to hate the character.

I don't have to agree with his actions to find him a great character. When he spouts that Divine right crap to imprison mages, I nearly want to fireball his ass. That being said, I find it noteworthy that he did turn on Meredith in the end.Um, are you no longer a fan? I'm confused...

Oh, I see. I guess characters don't really make me mad because they're characters. I probably don't get too heavily invested in the story.
The one character who might really make me mad is Loghain, but mostly I just think he's a bad dude, and I have no real feelings of animosity towards him because, well, I guess because he's not real lol
I need a heavy dose of story immersion and imagination perhaps ![]()

Granted, I can understand why people would be a bit angry, particularly if they had grown attached to Bethany. I got very attached to Carver. If Cullen had done something similar to Carver, I would be a bit p*ssed too.Exactly, which supports my point. Cullen could have handled the situation poorly, aggressively, and violently, but he did not. And yet, people still hate him for this one scene. Wow, you guys have some contentious sibling relationships, lol!
I'm 7 years older than my sister so that's where a lot of our issues came from, also she is a total different personality then me. My parents were a lot less strict with her than they were with me so .... yeah, that didn't help either. The older I got the more I'm letting go of the resentment, but there are still things that she does that just drives me up the wall and she is 25 now. I don't think we'll ever be really tight, but we still love each other and are there for each other.

My sister's only 2 years older. Nine years IS a big difference; I can imagine it's hard to relate to someone so much younger.

If you go about it in a more friendly manner, she starts to agree that she should die, and that it's the maker's will. And then rants about the maker. It's FREAKY.
