Maybe it's a silly thing to ask but i wondered: Why do most of you take his affection for a female Mage of either race as just a (childish) crush and not something with more substance/meaning behind it?

 

Has it soley something to do with your perception of your characters? Or is it something he does or says? Or maybe something in how it is presented to us?

You are not interrupting! Well I see it as a crush because they aren't even a couple, and this is basically the moment he confesses his feelings. It's not like they are in a relationship. She doesn't even seem to know him that well.

Well, I also never played a fem!mage, but everyone is saying that the various Wardens existed in universe whether you played them or not.

 

I agree that it seems a forgettable moment (maybe we are coming at this from the prospective of old ladies, who knows... although I have no idea how old you are haha), but also I'm sure it's just more significant to fans of that pairing, which is understandable. I mean if Fenris and Hawke had canonically met for like five seconds 10 years before DA2, I would definitely be all, "OMG you guys it was totally love at first sight and they always knew they were meant for each otherrrrrrrrr" so yeah

For me, it's that Cullen never interacted with Amell/Surana for any substantial time. I don't see how it could have grown into something more than a crush. And by the time DAI comes around, he's at least capable of moving on from her.

I imagine some have, or perhaps they downloaded a mod for some semblance of romance.

Personally, my first impression of Cullen in DA:O when I was playing a Surana was that *if* his crush had gone any further than blushing and stammering, my character would not have been happy.  I didn't hate him, but was highly suspicious of a templar having affection for a circle mage.  It wasn't until DA2 that I started thinking that he was an example of a moderate templar, and wouldn't have minded if we got to know him better.  So I don't hold his relationship with the Mage Warden as a good thing, but I don't hold it against him for the future, if that makes sense.

 

Also, posting here just because I'm going to be sad if we don't get a templar companion.  Both Alistair and Carver had very useful abilities.  Keeping my fingers crossed for now...

nope, but my Amell had a similar sort of wistful crush on Cullen. But Alistair certainly helped her get over it

If by harsher in DAI you mean, is he going to be harsher than in DAO, my answer is yes.

 

I believe Cullen will be what the forums seems to call a "moderate templar", meaning he believes that mages and mundanes need to be protected from one another, and that he views mages as actual people. He's that spot between Ser Alrik and Ser Thrask.

This gets thrown out there a lot. Cullen is, first and formost, a soldier. Soldiers follow orders. Regardless, generally, of their own opinion in the matter. He expresses his doubt throughout the third act if you go and talk to him. But he is a soldier. 

Do I think he might have waited too long to make Merideth stand down? Yeah. But I can also see why he waited. 

 

He is one of the most *human* video game characters I've ever seen, and I expect the writers to continue that in Inquisition.

Man I wonder in what way he'll decide to join the inquisition (whether it be as a companion or advisor)... Particularly if the Inquisitor is a mage. Will he overlook that aspect because he agrees so strongly with the purpose of the inquisition?
