I never really cared that much about Leliana to be honest,I knida liked her did love her accent though but not to the point where I consider her fascinating like Morrigan or Alistair for example.

She really grew on me after I played her DLC... I kinda preferred how she was before devoting herself to the Chantry though.

The misogynistic aspect of this so called hate is what enrages me the most...

Yea it's really sad to see some people go there. They are just assuming so much about Cullen's fans, that we are all just teenager girls without brains >_< In reality we are really diverse bunch, from different sexes, all have different opinions and views etc. It's annoying how dismissing some are towards other fans.

HAHAHA thanks so much! That is a hilarious photo.

I understand everyone has their own opinions, I've never understood people who have deep passionate hate for characters who feel the need to spread that hate. It's quite silly, seeing as these are fictional characters who shouldn't affect your life negatively. Even worse when you start hating on other fans for liking said character(s). I mean we all have characters we like/don't like, it doesn't mean you have to give people crap for it.  :(

I agree with you on that! Like others have already said I too don't mind it if people don't like Cullen or even hate/ strongly dislike him. That is their right and it doesn't make them horrible people. What can make someone seem horrible is when they come after people of opposite opinions about a certain character and act as if those people were the character they hate. Or think that because they like a character they must fit into some insulting stereotype.

This forum had become quite scary in the last few years but I think/ hope it's taking a turn for the better with threads like this one popping up :) Hopefully DAI will win over more people too! And I love what they did with the new forum design (even if it took me a while to get used to the brightness). Do you think we might get character themed backgrounds once the game is out? I would love a Cullen theme for the forum :D

What's funny, at least to me, is that even though I really wasn't a fan of Leliana, I still got up and squealed when I saw her in that trailer. I'm excited to see all the characters in DAI, even if I didn't really like them in DAO or DA2.

Same, I usually avoid her in Origins, I hardly ever take her out. But seeing her in the Inquisition trailer gave me good feels. I'll be happy to see any returning characters,

I'm thinking that we might get to see an aspect of her bard self again now that she's leading the espionage, though I doubt she'll be any less devoted to the chantry, also whether the player hardened her or not might play a minor role.

I agree, for once, I'm okay with Varric existing, and I HAVE NEVER FELT THAT WAY BEFORE. So yeah, I'm excited for almost everyone. And that's a very, very good thing.

Wonderful, BioMod1 linked our thread in one of the hate threads that he/she just closed down. Be prepared for an influx. I sent him/her a message asking politely if he/she could not do that in future, lol.

Urgh, they should just make me a bloody mod already I swear I've been here long enough to know the correct protocol for this sort of thing.

And the mod took the right action. No particular thread should only be about agreeing with the topic at hand pointing everyone who disagrees to a different thread. There is no debate if you only allow for agreement. The Cullen thread should be no different from other topics. Just because someone dislikes Cullen it doesn't mean their opinion is automatically an attempt to troll. I must say I feel it is often very difficult on this forum to express an opinion which is opposite to the topic of a thread and that is why I often try not to post in particular topics but opposite sentiments shouldn't immediately be shot down by particular posters (note: not talking about you) and this does happen way too often.

Yeah, I kind of hate Varric because he totally bored me and made me feel nothing for or against him, (which paradoxically made me hate him, but still), but I'm okay with him being in Inquisition. Partly because I know I'll probably have so e chance to dismiss him, but also because I have hopes that he's changed now and more interesting to me. Which he should have, I gave him that red lyrium shard for a reason!

LIKE

because stereotyping is bad...As bad as swooping!

You know I wonder why do we even bother at this point, since they don't seem that eager to give up the ridiculous stereotypes they form without even knowing us as a bunch let alone as individuals!

As I said in one of my posts above, my concern isn't with people disliking his character or wanting to debate about it. Hell, we have a couple of regulars that post in here who can't stand Cullen but like to have intelligent conversation and debates about the aspects of his personality they don't like and why they disagree with his actions, that sort of thing is totally cool. What I don't like and will not tolerate is when people come in to directly attack and insult fans and individuals for liking him, and that's where my concerns lie.

Absolutely agree with you, and I'm sure everyone else here does as well.  I think the main point was that we personally were being attacked as fans of Cullen, not that they disagreed with certain views.  All are welcome to discuss and debate, but if it takes a more aggressive turn as it did on that thread then we would really rather stay away from those people.  :)

There where people who dislike/hate Cullen that came here and discussed the topic and posted their negative opinion of him without a problem. It depends in the way you express your opinion.

I disagree . A fan thread is a place for fans of a character to enjoy themselves. I don't see it as a need for justification. Even though I'm being anti Cullen in the scuttlebutt thread. This applies to all fan threads. Whatever my views I see no reason to storm into their home and start tossing around the furniture.

On the other hand everyone should be free to express their opinion be it positive or negative. And people who are fans of that character should be able to come to negative threads and defend the character if they do choose. In my opinion there is a benefit in having at least one negative character thread although you don't want the board to be filled up with them.

Yes exactly! Constructive criticism and mindless hate are 2 completely different things, as I believe someone has pointed out before.

Well on the bright side it's not half as bad as the Dragon Age fandom on Tumblr, which is one of the main reasons I decided to come join the forums instead. It's pretty overwhelming with the hate and overly obsessive social justice bloggers >_<

Speaking of character themes, that would be pretty awesome! I'm not too sure if they may actually do it, but I'm all YESS for that idea if it's not too much trouble for Bioware.

Hello everyone! First post here, I've been reading up on the forums the last few days and *heh* finally mustered up the courage to join in. I haven't been in a forum for yearssss. You guys are so great and it's lovely to meet everyone! :) E3 is only a few days away and I would love to discover all the news together with y'all.

I must say I'm really glad to find a safe zone for Cullen fans on here, although there has been some hate going on today. Sigh.

Welcome! And stay! :)

I don't really even go to other threads anymore. I like it here. Also this thread has great art which I really enjoy seeing!

I wonder what Greg Ellis thinks about Cullen. I don't have a twitter account so I only hear little bits about what he has been tweeting. Has he ever said anything about if he likes "being" Cullen or what he thinks about him?

I think he said Cullen is good-looking? :) Or a bit of a looker?

To be honest, I doubt he would play the games. Playing long games like Dragon Age requires some dedication, and GE seems to have a very busy life. Maybe his kids would play, and tell him they heard him like everywhere  It would be funny.

Anyway, I can't wait to see that interview! I wonder what he meant by "talking hair"?

The reason I and others are worried is that some haters of Cullen seem to think their dislike (or hatred) of Cullen means they should treat fans of Cullen with hatred (or dislike), and that is not okay. Be civil (or friendly even :)), and it's all cool.

Absolutely. In the case of this thread I believe this is one of the reasons the first page has so much Cullen information and a FAQ for new posters to look through. Also from what I have seen in this thread when people come in and say they don't know much about Cullen or don't really like him other posters have offered them the information they have needed. The conversations that stem from there can be very interesting and fun even if everyone doesn't necessarily like Cullen.

Problems arise most of the time only when posters act aggressively or want to argue instead of having an actual discussion.

Technically, this is discussion thread. People with a negative opinion on him can post and discuss the character here, and as it was stated there were people who did it, and some even follow/followed the thread. It depends on the way you express your opinion.

Get out my brain you! I mean, I kind of like Zevran when I play Origins, but as a character in retrospect, I find him very problematic. And as a bisexual, my biggest hope for the 2/2/2 system is that we get an openly bisexual LI who isn't looking to hump anything that moves, or doesn't have much experience at all. For me, Cullen and Vivienne would be perfect, but that's kind of where I'm also just being selfish because those are the characters I generally like best.
