See I keep seeing talk of this and it got me thinking.

 

What if...now keep in mind I'm saying What if here.

 

That the Order and the Divine had a way to ween the Templars off of Lyrium all this time and hadn't said anything. Anyways, even if they didn't and recently figured out a way to get their Templars of the dust. Lets say one of the two is the current situation.

 

The Divine decides lets get our boys off the stuff and she shares with them that they can still in fact use their talents. This 'may' keep some of the Templars loyal. But maybe, there will be side effects from no longer taking it. I'm thinking that something along these lines could make for a really interesting story. It could lead to some of the Templars to abandoning the order and forming their own.

 

Hmmm, how about a twist on this idea?

 

The Divine has a way to get a templar off of lyrium without the templar losing their mind. The reason they haven't shared this method is if templars knew, then they could leave. That would be bad. So, the Divine offers Cullen a way off the stuff for... whatever reason. If Cullen gets off lyrium, he won't lose his mind.

 

But he will lose his templar abilities.

 

Might be an interesting dilemma, with the option of trying to convince Cullen one way or the other. This would probably only work for an NPC Cullen, who's in-game skills wouldn't need to be affected.

I can't remember if I shared this with you guys, but... I had a student who wanted to do research on video games and violence. He said he was going to check out some gaming magazines, and I told him not to do so because I considered those unreliable sources. How sad is that?
