So, to start off our grand reopening, what do you think of Cullen being possibly captured and being forced to convert to red lyrium.

I've read some really great fan fic about it, and it's a neat idea for writers to explore.

I think it would be pretty derailing for the actual game, though. It would take Cullen out of the action for quite awhile, we don't know if it's possible to recover from red lyrium addiction, and being captured would surely be a major PTSD trigger. For it to be written with any emotional realism, Cullen would have to be a mess for quite a long time. That could be very tenderly handled in a piece of writing, but in a game, I think it would either cause a pacing issue or not be done justice. I also can't see them bringing Cullen back just to finish him off that way, if they were going to use that to end his arc.

So I guess ultimately I like it as a story idea but I can't really see it happening in the game?

Cullen, the Pillar

Did you watch Game of Thrones this week?

*snort*

Cullen is totally the pillar!  (At least if romanced.)

Sooooo idk if anyone has brought this up at all (been very busy lately), but, what type of interview do you guys think they did with GE? Humorous, serious, appreciative, etc?

GE has said that he talked about the Cullenites, and he seems to think we're a cool bunch of people, so I do think he'll talk about his appreciation of the fans. That said, he seems to be something of a jokester, so I'm guessing we'll see his sense of humor in the video too and it won't be super serious.

Edit: right, back to topic. What do you think Cullen will think of him?

Just based on that one quote, I would think Cullen would like him and they'd have a lot in common.

There's some warden stuff in general that would probably make Cullen uncomfortable, though - like the Joining could be seen as basically a form of blood magic - so to guess whether they'd get along overall I think we'd need to know more about Blackwall's personality and beliefs.

I think Blackwell seems like an interesting character. I like him so far!  :)

The fact that he's so softspoken is one of the things that utterly fascinates me. I wonder if it's just his nature, or if it's a habit born of dealing with young and frightened mages.

Can't help but imagining his sweet voice in a romantic context. Oh my.

Agreed, I like that he kept that soft voice rather than going balls to the wall hard ass like the voice he uses when we first meet him with Wilmod.

I suspect it's going to be incredibly swoon-worthy, especially now GE knows he has a fan base. I bet he put an extra little bit of oomph in there knowing we'd enjoy it.

I always romanced Alistair, but lately I have been thinking of replaying DAO as an elf and romancing Zev for the first time. I really want to see if his character changes a little if he falls for the warden (whether he becomes a tiny bit mooshy) ^_^

I think he does. One of my fav DA:O parties always included both Alistair and Zev. Love the war cries from the both of them and the hilarious banter Zevran always brings. (And Zev with female mage during Broken Circle - priceless).

So a question. Potentially Morrigan and Leliana have met Cullen before. Albeit in a very different state of mind. How do you imagine their interactions would go? Do they remember him at all? Do they think he's crazy? Dangerous? Pathetic?

I would be surprised if Morrigan remembers him well enough to recognize him. There would be no practical reason for one tormented templar to stick in her mind, and she's pretty empathy-challenged so I don't think his ordeal would have made much of an emotional impression. If she was reminded who he was, I'd imagine she'd be either slightly scornful of him or be unsure why she was expected to care enough to have an opinion since his situation didn't directly affect her.

I'm less sure about Leliana, because she presents so many different faces that I'm never quite sure when she's playing games and when her real personality is showing through. I would hope she'd be compassionate and understanding when she considers his past and give him a clean slate in the present, and I do think she has that side to her personality, but she's hard for me to predict.

I always felt like that was part of his compassionate nature. I mean, he's obviously always had some degree of authority, ever since he's been a templar, but I never got the sense that he threw his weight around. He's serious and considerate of what his duty really is. Even when he went after Wilmod, it was because he wanted to confirm some suspicions he had and he didn't feel it was time to notify Meredith (and maybe ruin Wilmod's career) or put any of his comrades in arms in potential danger.

Maybe both? My guess would be he started that way naturally, and over time realized that it's actually a pretty effective strategy. It sets people more at ease and makes them less defensive, which would be crucial in dealing with people who can shoot lightning and such when they're upset, and it also gives him something to escalate to if needed. If you raise your voice all the time, people just tune it out. If you raise it only rarely, people stop what they're doing and listen when you do. Self-control would be pretty necessary to be an effective templar, and I think Cullen has a lot of it.

I agree that Morrigan probably wouldn't remember him, and wouldn't care much even if she did. She might chuckle about it if she remembers him being locked in the pink cage. A templar getting what he deserves?

As for Leliana, I think she'd have felt sympathetic towards him. I mean, the circle tower was in pretty gruesome shape by then. IMO, she'd respect his pious beliefs, and I bet they'd probably have some entertaining debates about chantry doctrine as well as the chant itself. I'm thinking they'd make a good team, actually.

I believe Leliana even offered Cullen a skin of Water in Origins. It will definitely be interesting to hear them talk.

I can see them arguing about the abuses that happened in Kirkwall and Leliana saying something that it was an affront to the Maker or something.

I always loved that he chased after Wilmod by himself without backup, like he didn't want to put anyone else at risk or potentially waste their time if it had turned out to be nothing. Had Wilmod just been sneaking off to see a lady then Cullen would have been able to keep the whole misunderstanding quiet rather than needlessly worrying people.

Man, I really want to get my hands on DAI's CC. I'm desperate to spend hours in there getting my first Inquisitor ready! Trying to practice in the DA:O and DA2 CC's just don't cut it, lol.

I'm the same way. My son laughs at me spending hours in the CC when he just jumps right in with no changes to the default, depending on the race he's playing. I have to have my girl perfect, first!

Maybe they'll give us one before release? Fingers crossed...

I have a favor to ask you guys.. back about 10,000 pages, everyone posted their twitter handles and a few even posted their ff.net author names, and I tried to find it again to see who I missed. Would you all mind reposting them so I can follow you?

Agreed. I'm sure he would have had a quiet, if stern, word with Wilmod about frequenting the brothel, much like his warnings to Hawke about potential trouble. Specifically I mean the letter about Aveline's reputation as guard captain, as well as the fact that he'd heard "disturbing rumours" about Hawke and Bethany. He even worries about Meredith's well being when he talks about how much pressure she has on her as knight commander. He shows a lot of concern other people ...

One of my favourite Cullen tribute videos, especially because of the beginning showing what could have happened to him during Uldreds uprising  :)
