I feel I should say something about Cullen!

How great will it be to see our Knight Commander in action again.  One of my favorite scenes with him was his Wilmod fight in DA2.  So I hope that these exertion VA thingies mean he will be fighting again and not that he's having trouble walking up the keep steps after eating too much cake post DA2.   :o

Poor R2 - suffering for the Cullenites relentless desire for information.  :)

Could be... altho ... what Orlesian would ever say they're Orlesian only by where they happen to live...?

That being said, I don't know how international the Wardens are. Fiona was Orlesian. Duncan was Rivaini.

Maybe it's like Dante, who called himself "A Florentine by birth, not in conduct."

Holy Cow. I had no idea. Are most clans that international??

Theoretically speaking, they move with a heard of something they hunt. Most nomads do.

Merrill's tribe could of crossed the sea because their game supply was getting low

I kind of agree, although I think it this will depend on whether he was raised in a chantry orphanage or by his family and joined the order later. In the second case I can see him identifying more as a Fereldan.

And in your head-canon which would you prefer, that Cullen was raised in an orphanage or he had a relatively normal childhood and was raised by his parents?

In assumption, he was wasn't he? Indirectly. As soon as Meredith fell he would have become the default Knight-Commander of the Kirkwall circle. But I don't think it was ever an official thing.

Edit: Or maybe it was just a typo  :D

in my head-canon, he was an orphan, of the Orlesian war if that makes sense timeline-wise.

I have only ever sided with the Templar's once in my play through's, but the whole ending scene in that play through when Cullen tells Meredith to stand down is my favorite! It's better than the one you see when you side with the mages. Definitely worth siding with the templars at least once to see it :)

Mike Gamble@GambleMike: I'm just going to go ahead and say that next week is #DAI week. The team has worked SO incredibly hard for you all to see an amazing game.

I'm betting we really will have almost a full week of stuff.

I've always wanted him to have a relatively pleasant childhood with his family. It's almost like, he has been through so much crap that it would be cool if he had something that he could remember fondly. I have read quite a few fics where he was an orphan and raised in the Chantry because his mother was a mage, which could be quite an interesting idea.

That scene was so great....and Cullen was so damn manly, I swooning at the keyboard.   ;)  It was definitely one of Cullen's finest moments.

Also of course the 'I believe that's what being a Templar is' speech - we should really thank GE for those, one day.   :)

edit - he does heroic so well, don't you think.....oh - and I guess the writers should probably get a little credit too. ;)

There was some very tricksy sleuthing earlier where they tracked down a mention of Blackwall from the TWOT.

Not much else of note really, we've kind of just been discussing favourite Cullen scenes and head canon for a little.   :)

He does do heroic well. He is actually a very level headed character despite what some people think. He is realistic, he knows what can become of a mage if they aren't guided properly and is weary of that, but he also isn't going to jump up and down pointing and screaming "Make them tranquil!" just because a mage had a small slip up. Any suggestion Hawke makes to him in DA2 Cullen ultimately follows it (despite it being the opposite of what red lyrium corrupted Meredith would want), because he can see the other side of the situation eg. the quest in Act 3 where a loved one is taken by Grace and Thrask. You can suggest to Cullen to take it easy on Allain (is that how you spell his name?) and he agrees even though Meredith would probably want him made tranquil.

PAGE 147 OF WORLD OF THEDAS:

"The news is dire. There are rumors that our Warden brothers and sisters in Ferelden have all perished. Without the Grey Wardens, the Blight will take Ferelden. Then it will undoubtedly spread. It will go north to Nevarra and the Marches. It will come west to Orlais. At the head will be an Archdemon, and in it's wake will come thousands upon thousands of darkspawn.

Many of you have asked why we remain here when such threats are mounting in the east. The problem, you see, is not a new one for us. Politics. To say Ferelden and Orlais have been at odds is an understatement. These two are like dogs and cats. We Wardens are Orlesian by address only, but that doesn't matter to Ferelden leaders.

Word is that the king of Ferelden is dead. And his successor, Loghain Mac Tir, decrees that no Warden set foot in the country. Mac Tir, a national hero who helped expel invading Orlesian forces from Ferelden, seems to have it out for our Order too. Maybe he doubts our abilities. Maybe he is more foolish than the history books made him out to be.

That is why we must wait, even as Ferelden willingly welcomes its fate."

----An address by Warden-Constable Blackwall of Val Chevin to his recruits, 9:30 Dragon

Here it is.   :)

I agree with you and love the DA2 portrayal of Cullen as a good man in a god awful situation.  He does hold to his own moral compass rather determinedly, it's really a very attractive quality.

Lol, i didn't realize how huge that pic was  :D  yeah he does look a bit off haha. Maybe he has just come out of his pink dome and it's the most inappropriate time for the warden to try and kiss him

I heard someone suggest Blackwall is a Marcher, which could give him a nice Scottish accent.
