This is really well put. The human element-the utter "This is how a real man would act" of Cullen's actions is what makes him compelling for a lot of us.
Exactly. I honestly don't feel like I can judge him for not doing something sooner... because, really, I couldn't have done any better myself. I completely understand why he wasn't sure what to do, and how he fought with himself over "never questioning the Order again."
There are still outstanding questions about how much he knew and when, and what he did or didn't do it about some events. But, "fixing" the Meredith problem was a pretty big step.
He has officially caught my eye..must be the mustache. I wanna know more about him now.

Yes, true. It's why I'm so excited to see him in Inquisition-maybe we will learn some of those answers. ![]()
Just finished DA2 again. One thing I hate about Cullen is that he only grows a conscience at the very last minute, after a lot of mages were killed (either by his men and/or Orsino). Why not be the voice of reason when Orsino makes that last plea to Meredith, and tells her she can search the tower and arrest everyone peacefully?
Just saying. Not trying to spoil the party here. I'm still curious what part he'll play, but he has an uphill climb as far as I'm concerned. It'll be interesting if he somehow wins me over.
Hi, exciting day to be a fan isn't it. ![]()
I think in part, when examining NPC actions you have to keep in mind that they are limited by the need to keep the Protagonist the focus of the game and the centre of the decision making universe. In the Meredith/Orsino conflict you mention, the purpose is that Hawke determines the outcome and clearly the developers didn't want to provide a compromise in that situation. So for game purposes it would be detrimental to have an NPC speak up with a reasonable solution that we are then unable to take action on.
From a character perspective, I don't know why Cullen didn't voice his objections earlier. He may not have felt them so strongly then, he may have felt intimidated by the circumstances or his military training may have forced him to keep silent when he wanted to speak through a habit of discipline. That he didn't speak doesn't make him a weaker character to my mind, it makes him more interesting because I can imagine how it would feel to be a part of something you fundamentally disagree with and go along with it. Do you feel guilt afterwards? Do you rationalise that sense of moral failure away as 'just following orders'? I like the potential conflict that Cullen's character may feel by having been apart of what many consider an unjust annulment.
I assume that he spoke out when he could take no more of Meredith's actions, he'd had enough. I am very interested to see what the effect of his involvement has upon him in the upcoming game.
This is in part what draws me to him and makes him a compelling addition to DAI.
I hope this helps explain a little about why some find Cullen interesting. For the purposes of full disclosure just let me add that I also want to jump him because he's bloody gorgeous. ![]()
Solas, not sure, Blackwall, Quizzy
Hmm, looking at this one again... I'm getting a very Riordan feeling from Blackwall. Yum.
Run You Clever Boy!
Something else... doesn't the Inquisitor look like he's fanboying over Cullen right here?? LOL
and... again, sword scabbard at his hip!

He looks like he's going weak at the knees!
Inquisitor: Oh my gosh Cullen, you're so cool! Will you sign my helmet?
Cullen: Ummm....certainly, *ROBERT*.
I still don't know who is the one between Solas and BW.
Whoever they are they are rocking that sun hat.
Cullen and the Inquisitor must shop at the same helmet smithy.
And, is it just me, or is Scribe Girl kind of a giant here? Look at her in comparison to Cullen. She's got like football player shoulders. Awesome. She's like an amazon! (with Wonder Woman bracelets glinting in the shadow
)
As for Leliana: I doubt she's in serious danger. She's a bard so it is likely she put herself in that situation - kinda like Black Widow. I'm 95% sure Leliana could kick ass with shackles on no trouble.
...That unintentionally went to a dark place. >_>

You know, that's very true.

It's Cole. His armour is just a white version of the war room red/brown he's wearing. It has the same studded shoulder cape, chest straps/belts etc. ^^
Yeah, it seems likely now. ThanksIt's Cole. His armour is just a white version of the war room red/brown he's wearing. It has the same studded shoulder cape, chest straps/belts etc. ^^
Fortunately I do not believe he has Andraste emblazoned on his crotch.
I hated that armour - I felt like I should be in a parade of some sort. I think it is the mardi gras helmet bit.

It's also a very big sword. That should, maybe, take two hands. He makes it look easy. ![]()

Where the heck is this image from??
I'm excited for the variety of armour types we've seen so far.

Heh heh heh. ![]()
I don't know why everyone hates on crotch Andraste. Crotch Andraste is best Andraste.
I also thought it was great
