Really? What difference does it make? (You mean his fans, right? I'm a fan of him, too :P) I wouldn't mind a jot if Cullen were a rogue. At least then he'd be a companion!

I suppose I should have qualified I meant some of his fans. In other threads, they were... a little combative about even the possibility of him becoming a rogue. Which I would love because, um, Duncan.  And if Cullen were a rogue, that means I could give him a bow and, well, yes please.

I hope he's arcane mage. That'd be cool concept and of cource Cullen's companion changes would rise a lot XD

OH MAN. I would love that. An arcane mage, encouraged to dabble in blood magic while a Grey Warden... that would be fascinating.

I get it, though. I kind of envy people's utter surety about some things, but on the other hand, I would hate to be as disappointed as some of them are going to be, because ALL THE THINGS *cannot* be true, ya know? :D

I don't. I've gone into games utterly convinced of things and they did not pan out. I am so glad I'm keeping a level head this time, managing my expectations, countering what I hope with what logic dictates.

I kinda feel like a Vulcan sometimes.

Yeah, I'm just happy that Cullen is an LI and will have a significantly larger role than he has had previously.  I mean, we've come a looong way, baby!  Everything else from here on out is icing.  Don't get me wrong, I like icing.  I do want the icing!  But it's not going to kill me if I don't get it.

I think DAII taught me not to have too many expectations when it comes to companions in DA games.  There were companions that I expected to looooooooove and then they were completely bland for me, and some (like Aveline... where did she come from?!) that blew me away when I was expecting to be unimpressed.

The truth is that fans always think they know what they want, but Bioware does their own thing and they surprise us.

Even Cullen could turn out to be completely different than what we're expecting.

So I'm on the side of just "wait and see" rather than "I'll be upset if."  It's better for my mental state going into the game.     I'm ecstatic that Cullen is romanceable, but I won't even be upset about him not following us on missions (if he's like Traynor or Cortez from ME). Everything else is just icing on the DA cake!

This very true. I just hate to see everyone taking these characters being in as gospel. That never ends well.

Oh, I agree on this. I don't think that Dorian is surely a companion, I just think he'll be one.
Personally I'd like if Cullen turns out to be a companion. I'm just pessimistic at the moment.

I know, right?! That was Varric and Carver for me. I expected to love Varric, and found myself mostly amused but unmoved by him, while I adore Carver to bits and pieces after expecting to hate him. And those can be good moments in games. But not when you've built the expectation up.

Honestly, as much as I like Cullen, I'm not even going into it with the expectation that he'll turn out to be my main pick for LI. I know so little about the other characters, that one could completely surprise me and capture my interest far more than Cullen. So, while I can chat and speculate on my favourites/those I'm most curious about, I'm keeping a completely open mind. Things could easily change once I'm playing through the game and witnessing how the characters interact with my Inquisitors.  :)

At this point I don't really expect to love or hate anyone since we don't know their personalities. I'm banking on enjoying them all since there's really only been one BW companion I've ever actively disliked.

That would be make him a intresting tank too. Usually tanks have really boring skill-sets, at least for me. But blood mage arcane warrior.. that's new :D

This reminds me of how my cat always wants my food. When I finally give it to her, she turns her head away and is like, No, I never really wanted that

Ungh. Carver. The closest Bioware has ever hit to one of my all time favourite character types and the little sh!t ended up being the sibling.

I honestly can't play anything but a mage!Hawke just because I love that boy so much. (I have nothing against Bethany, mind! I just personally adore Carver-- especially if you take the time to work him up to friendship. Hawke and Carver's friendship relationship just gives me the best of sibling feels.)

Very true. I feel like we know three or four all that well. Varric and Cassandra are rather familiar to us, Varric moreso (and I still haven't seen that movie yet). We've glimpsed parts of Vivienne's personality, and I like what I see so far (will I agree with her I dunno but I like her). And, well, maybe Cullen. We probably know Cullen better than Vivienne, but still not all that well.

Possible romance scene with Cullen (if you invite him to your room with too small approval):

Lol somehow I just thought Cullen when I saw that XD

EDIT: Yesh, finally it works.

Carver is my favorite Hawke sibling, and, really, one of my favorite Dragon Age characters. He's such a brother, it's amazing. I wish there could have been a scuffle between mage!Hawke and Carver sometime, with Carver actually winning (no magics!).

Gee, I dunno! Honestly I think the VA didn't help. No offense to him, but Oghren's voice was just obnoxiously loud; I didn't even speak to him on camp let alone bring him anywhere lol

I had one rogue playthrough of DA2, and the rest were as mages just so I could enjoy some Carver sass.  Like you say, I don't dislike Bethany, it's just that there seems to be so much going on with Carver.  He's like puzzle box or something.  I just can't resist... :P

The Carver/Hawke thing didn't really work for me because my brother and sister and I are very close and never fight, so I just kind of wanted to smack him for being such a jerk, lol! But I definitely liked him (and Bethany, too).

I'm a younger sibling with my brother being quite a few years older than me. I was closer to him when I was younger, but as I grew older I got compared to him a lot. Especially as I became more introverted and people-avoiding. My bro isn't the most social guy out there, but he 'got out there' way more than me, especially when he was younger/my age. So Carver's feelings of inadequacy and defensiveness resonate with me a lot, and why his repaired relationship with Hawke on the friendship path makes me so happy. c:

Steve Blum, yes! c:

I'd recognise that voice anywhere. Though it did take me a cool minute to recognise he was Guilmon in Digimon: Tamers.
