That might be a really interesting match given the Qunari views on magic and their usual treatment of mages.  Now, I kind of want to do it too - I'm stealing your idea!

Cullen is absolutely my dream LI for Dragon Age. I like the other characters they have shown. However the only one I want is him.

 

Same. I think all the characters are cool and interesting, but Cullen is the only romance I'm really excited about. 

 

I'm having trouble being patient waiting to find out if he's romanceable for my canon (mage) Inquisitor. If not, she may just stay single.

 

Unless he's restricted only to qunari inquisitors or something,I can see that happening.

 

I really can't see Iron Bull being race-restricted. They've said he pretty much would shag anything that moves in terms of backstory, so I don't think it makes sense that during gameplay he'd only be attracted to his own race. Especially since he's Qunari, I would think the Qun would supersede race for him.

 

The one restriction I could see is that he might not want to be monogamous? But maybe he'd settle down if he found the right person, so I don't know about that.

 

I actually think that with 9 companions and 3 Advisers that getting 8 romances is not a long shot, I just think there might be restrictions on some other than sexual preference. 

 

Random Examples: Iron Bull will be Bi but he will only sleep with Humans or Qunari

 

Solas will be straight but he will only be interested in other elves or mages

 

Get my drift?

 

Edit: I can't remember where I read this but I remember some article saying that the LI's would have certain preferences, why does that have to be contained to a sexual preference

That doesn't necessarily mean race/class restrictions, of course. Romances have always been gated by approval, and presumably still will be. What he said does make those restrictions seem more likely, though, I think.

 

Frankly, I think more LIs likely means more restrictions, too. If you theoretically have more options, any given PC could lose more of them without being cut out of romances entirely. I hope that's not the case because I'd like for there to be more choices, but it seems like a strong possibility.

I really can't see Iron Bull being race-restricted. I can see anyone but a qunari however approaching him and confessing, and he will say that though he's into you, he doesn't want to hurt you and that's why he only hooks up with other qunari. 

 

Alternatively, he could only do this to a dwarf -- the cinematics would be nightmarish. 

 

However... I can see IB being race-restricted to just qunari, yes indeedy. If they're going to add race and class restrictions in addition to sex restrictions, AND they're going to have many LI to choose from... I can see it all happening.

Yeah you definitely can't take it for gospel, but it isn't something I will rule out happening. They said that they wanted to make the romances more complex and more realistic, and what better way to do that than to give LI's preferences outside of sexual orientation. I personally like the idea of it, if it means that there will be more potential LI's in the game.

 

And I agree it's a strong possibility that this will happen, either in Inquisition or in future game release. I find the prospect of it rather compelling.

I don't find it so, because... well, what if my PC has strong preferences, too? In a game that's about role-playing, I don't think what the player character wants should matter less than what the NPCs want. If there are a bunch of restrictions on romance, it seems like the PC is getting stuck with the results of everyone else's decisions rather than having any agency in making decisions, and that seems pretty backwards.

 

But this thread isn't about romances, so I'll leave it at that.

Yes this looks very likely. I have long suspected that the romances are going to be race restricted :/ Mostly because of Varric. If he is an LI then I can't see him being with anyone who isn't a dwarf. Sadly. He makes it pretty clear he isn't really into humans that much in DA2. And he doesn't appear to love the Qunari to bits. Then again that does leave the elves.

Also when they spoke of Sera at some point didn't they say that she loves her elven heritage and all else elven? If I remember that correctly it might be that she will be available only for female elves then.

And then there is Dorian. This one is a little weak but it might be that he'll prefer a mage for his romance. To keep the bloodlines pure and the magic flowing lol!

And then as for Cullen: he has shown a liking for both human and elven women in DAO. So hopefully he will be available for those races at the least. We don't really know anything about his attitude towards the qunari and the dwarves or about if he is bisexual or not. So we can only wait and see I suppose.

 But honestly I'm hoping this won't be the case as it might force metagaming :/
