Lol nice and subtle  any way, enough speculation. I just want everyone to romance the socks off Cullen, in fact, I think it should be a mandatory quest of the game!

Well there was a great deal of backlash over the impression that the companions in DA2 were a bonk buffet for Hawke, so perhaps they have decided to go for greater quantity of potential romances with a variety of different restrictions on them.

 

You could have - 

Varric - gender inclusive but dwarf only.

Sera - gender exclusive but race inclusive.

Cullen - gender inclusive but class restricted to non-mage.  (put down the torches, these are just random examples.!)

etc, etc, etc.

 

If you added enough gateways to the romances you could probably cut down the content to something consistent with the past games without too many problems because (as someone already mentioned) there are quite a lot of scenarios they're no longer accounting for.  I'd probably personally enjoy this approach but I'm also fairly certain that I'm getting my Cullen romance for my preferred Inquisitor, so I probably don't have very much to lose by the implementation of such a mechanism.

 

I don't really think they're going to do it though, my guess is they will go with a 2-2-2 split to provide equal numbers of LI for different sexualities and that gender will be the gateway to the content.

Didn't Cullen call the Qunari heathens who would stop at nothing but the eradication of the chantry? This is from memory so who knows how reliable that memory is, lol. Then again he did also say mages aren't people like he and Hawke... Oh, Cullen. Just love us all! Pweeaseeee!

I'm hoping that he will only dislike a qunari who actively follows the Qun. Then there would be hope for a Cullen/Qunari romance. As for Cullen not wanting to romance a mage I'm not sure. He has had a crush on a mage before but that was when he was very young and more naive. I can't really say what is going to happen with that. Might be safest to just romance him with a human female warrior the first time so as to not miss out on him.

 

Do we know if he has ever said anything about dwarves?

Yes this looks very likely. I have long suspected that the romances are going to be race restricted :/ Mostly because of Varric. If he is an LI then I can't see him being with anyone who isn't a dwarf. Sadly. He makes it pretty clear he isn't really into humans that much in DA2. And he doesn't appear to love the Qunari to bits. Then again that does leave the elves.

Also when they spoke of Sera at some point didn't they say that she loves her elven heritage and all else elven? If I remember that correctly it might be that she will be available only for female elves then.

And then there is Dorian. This one is a little weak but it might be that he'll prefer a mage for his romance. To keep the bloodlines pure and the magic flowing lol!

And then as for Cullen: he has shown a liking for both human and elven women in DAO. So hopefully he will be available for those races at the least. We don't really know anything about his attitude towards the qunari and the dwarves or about if he is bisexual or not. So we can only wait and see I suppose.

 But honestly I'm hoping this won't be the case as it might force metagaming :/

 

There is a part of me that would be excited for this, but I know I'd be walking around for day with a chip on my shoulder if I couldn't romance my intended LI with my favored Inquisitor so I'm pretty torn in two about the idea of restrictions, and yes we can only wait and see  

 

"Really Cullen, of all the the little quirks you could have it's wearing socks 24/7?"

 

"I know, I'm sorry. But I just can't bare to remove them."

 

"You do realize that Thedas will cease to exist if you don't remove them at least once right?"

From what I have seen it looks amazing but they didn't talk all that much about possible story or anything. Just concept art and early builds if I remember correctly. And again they said it won't have anything to do with Shepard but they are going to be making little nods at the events etc of the first trilogy.

That was all from two days ago and I haven't seen anything after that though :/ Hopefully we'll get more this week.

Agree. I think once the Inquisition is through, he will either want nothing to do with the Qun or, everything he will see while he is part of the inquisition will reaffirm his faith in the Qun.

I got the impression it might actually be before the original trilogy but they didn't say much so I too am hoping for it to take place after it! :B

Apparently we will be going to unexplored places in the galaxy and maybe even finding new races. If we're not where Shepard is/was during the war etc then it could easily take place during or after the trilogy. Looked amazing! And it seemed like there will be day-night cycles and dynamic weather!
