I believe it was MLaw who said there will be no marriage. Of course... there was no ingame marriage with Seb, either, but I'm not hopeful.
I thought that was mainly in response to whether there was a marriage mechanic like Skyrim has?
I didn't take it to mean none of the characters would ever get married. I mean, technically there wasn't marriage in DAO either and my Warden still ended up as Alistair's wife.
I thought he was mainly just saying not to expect it in the course of gameplay. It might still happen in an epilogue, and of course you can always headcanon that your character married their LI.
I'm not going anywhere. I can't imagine forsaking Cullen as my first and canon choice for my Inquisitor.
Same. I really want Cullen to be my canon Inquisitor's romance, and if that isn't possible... well, I don't know. It's not that I wouldn't even consider someone else, but I'm not really excited about the idea of settling for someone if no one else appeals as much. My guess is if Cullen isn't an option for my Inquisitor, she'll probably stay single.
I wouldn't abandon the thread, regardless. There are still things to say about Cullen - he's still going to be in the game and interacting with the Inquisitor. If he doesn't want a relationship with my Inquisitor, she'll be his friend. If he's not comfortable with friendship, she'll be a supportive colleague. Regardless, she'll know him, and the game will let us see more of his character. That's worth discussing.
Besides, my Cullenite friends are awesome and I'll still want to talk to you!
!!!!!
?!?!?!?!?!
This is obviously referring to the scene with Leliana in the demo. Oh God. We could send Cullen in there. [MAKES SMALL NOISES OF DISMAY] I'm torn on if he'd be better equipped to handle that situation better, or if it'd be so much worse for him.
I'm going to reveal a character flaw of my Inquisitor here: I don't think she would be able to send Cullen into a situation where he has the potential to be hurt like that. (Whether or not she gets to romance him, she'll still care about him.) Yes, he could die in battle, that's a job risk, but that's pretty different from sending him into a situation where he could potentially be captured and tortured, particularly since he already has PTSD.
That's even if he's the best person for the job. Which, in this case, he very well could be - he's incredibly strong and resolute. Sometimes my Inquisitor makes heart decisions, not head decisions, and this would be one.
If it was a matter of sending him in with a military team rather than alone... well, that could happen. And she might hate herself for the results if it turned out badly.
Edited to clarify: The evil masterplan is, of course, to romance Cullen as a mage.
That's what I'm hoping for.
I didn't go into it with the intention of "I'm going to romance Cullen with a mage." At the time I started creating my Inquisitor, we didn't even know for sure that Cullen had an important role in the game, let alone was a romance option, so I just created the character I wanted to play rather than taking his preferences into account at all.
Since then, I've gotten attached to my character. I really like her and am excited about playing her. I realize it's quite likely that Cullen wouldn't be interested in a romance with a mage, and I've considered ditching the character and doing something else, but... as I said, I really like her. It's not as fun for me if I try to imagine someone different as the Inquisitor.
So it just is what it is. If Cullen doesn't want her, oh well.
