I'm really not comfortable with collecting red lyrium shards though. In the demo apparently Dorian tells you to keep hold of them or something... I definitely ain't touching that sh!t if there's an option!

Yeah, exactly. I think that would be a hard one for him to come back from.
There are very few things that would cause my Inquisitor to completely lose it and go on a revenge rampage, but this would be high on the list. Whether or not she gets to romance him, whether or not he even likes her as a colleague, no one hurts Cullen!
I was surprised how my stomach flipped when I saw Leliana getting tortured, LOL! I felt instantly like I needed to kick seven shades of sh!t out of whoever was torturing her.

Yeah! Leliana isn't even a particular favorite of mine, and I was pretty upset. It's a terrible thing to happen to any comrade, and she's someone we know.
With Cullen it would be even worse, I think. ![]()
For my Inquisitor, if it was Leliana there would be a lot of anger but it would be controlled anger. If it was Cullen, she would be flipping out beyond all rationality.

From that interview:
"You must also send operatives from your party of playable characters to embark on missions on your behalf--and these won't always go down as planned. In my demo, a party member is sent to go undercover and infiltrate a Mage stronghold. Unfortunately, by the time the player's party arrives to mop up, said party member has been captured and is being tortured. We recover her, but she (understandably) has developed a hatred for Mages--so, during a crucial interaction with the stronghold's Mage leader, she has little patience for words, and goes on a murderous rampage of revenge. Would this have played out differently had another party member been sent in her stead? Oh, yes--or so I'm told. Seeing as Dragon Age: Inquisition is packed with moments like these, I can't wait to see what else is in store."
That's really interesting! So it sounds like in some cases we can maybe send the advisors to scout ahead and deal with the problem. I wonder what would happen if we sent Cullen in to deal with that ball Empress Celene is holding? I imagine it would go pretty badly, LOL!
wait whaaat? i missed this!
she goes on a murderous rampage of revenge? oh Lud. that's how it's gonna be. huh. okay. okay.
i think cullen would be okay at a ball? no? wishful thinking? would they really take that away---or well, rather, take away my headcanon of being able to Dance With Cullen At A Ball!?!

I think it depends on what he's supposed to do at the ball. If it's just dance and mingle a bit, have some eats, and keep the proverbial ear to the ground, I think he'd do fine.
If it was a complicated espionage mission, you'd probably be better off with someone else. ![]()

Yeah somehow I just don't see Cullen as a master spy!
But I'm sure he would be capable of doing some small talk and eating fancy orlesian appetizers! Do you think he would be a good dancer?

I'm guessing 'murderous rampage of revenge' was when we saw her kill the dude's son and then all hell broke loose. So... I don't think that necessarily means she suddenly hates all mages. Just those mages. So I think that's possibly a little misleading? I mean even if she's understandably worn down, I can't see Leliana lashing out at people who she knows haven't wronged her personally just for what they are.
(I might, however, be proven wrong, of course! Time will tell~)

absolutely.
I friggin' love that helmet with a passion. it's So beautiful and detailed and fierce! when he turned around to face the camera i literally gasped. and this is before i even realized it was cullen.
when i did realize it was cullen..i was...newly smitten. and it just made me feel like the da crew treated the character respectfully. they showed respect with that-imo. not that they wouldn't show all their char.s respect....i mean it made it feel to me like Cullen was not the red headed step child anymore.
*and i want that helm for myself, but i'm pretty sure cullen does not want to dress all "same-sy" and matching. we'll burn the horde of demons w/our blindingly cute couple-y matchiness until they're a giant pile of "D'aww
"
no. so i will concede the helm to him.
I literally had the the same reaction as the bolded. I've never been a fan of the Templar armour, so seeing him get an armour set as striking and beautiful as this one is, well it may have made me come over a little weak at the knees. Partly I think for similar reasons as you say. Obvious respect is being shown to the character, they could have just chucked him in any old garb, but what he's been given is just so striking and special, to me at least. I honestly didn't realise that something as small as his armour would matter to me so much until I saw it completed like that.

so, i'm guessing that one torture scene will not be the only situation where things might go horribly bad if we don't choose wisely abt who to send out to scout.
but ah, those scenes in the trailers where quizzy is walking up to camp and we see leli approaching--i guess that would be the deal with whomever you send to scout, and then when you set up camp---they'll be there.
i like it.

ah, actually i think you're right. i was reading "stronghold" as Keep. like our keep, and thinking omg--she's gonna try and kill scribbles (or whoever is mage leader).
okay. okay. i get it. phew.

I'd kinda like to see that, just because I know I'd be like "GET YOUR FILTHY MITTS OFF HIM!!! RAWR!!!" But I think he'd know how to handle them, he'd been a Templar for years so he'd know better than to go in there without being fully prepared. Maybe instead we'd walk in to find him kicking some major arse.

I would like to think that he would go in there and smite all their ass', then we'd get there and he'd be leaning against a wall going "What took you so long?"
Sending a Templar in would be the most logical decision after all

I really hope things can go really bad for the Inquisitor too. I will sulk if only the companions have bad sh!t happen to them-- and pain while rift closing doesn't count if that's all that happens. I want my poor Inquisitor to possibly suffer as much as my Hawke. ![]()

although killing that mage leader could srsly eff up our mission and even get sum of our companions killed. what with the unleashed demons and all. unless that happens anyway. hard to tell w/bw.

I'd still take it with a pinch of salt, since those articles tend to get a lot wrong. I'll run it past LadyInsanity, she'd know.

iirc, they did say that if--for example--you play a mage, some serious shyte goes down with you mid game or so. how that plays out, not sure, but it sounded like sumthing not so nice would happen to you.
i'm guessing there may be a situation like this for all the classes. and maybe depending on your actions?

It was sheer luck that Bethany survived in my first ever playthrough because I'd taken Anders with me since that's who she was going to romance. I didn't wanna miss any potential interaction with him so I took him everywhere.

there's no way i'm sending cullen in to deal with a bunch of crazy mages that may torture him. now that i know what could happen? i can't see putting him in that potential situation.
although, as has been said, it might be the most logical choice w/him being a templar. but he's just one man. would he go with a small army? i just don;t know.

I guess it could go either way. Perhaps what happened to Leliana is a result of our Inquisition not being prepared?
I'm not gonna lie, the thought of playing DAI sounds so complex that I'm actually kinda nervous... in a good way! I suspect my first go around is gonna be utter carnage!
