There's a small part of me that looks at that and wishes to whisper Varric is an LI for dwarven females semi-confirmed rumour, but I'm not sure I want to make that joke at my own Varric-adoring expense.

Whoa. Well, if race gating is confirmed and they still want everyone to have a choice of two LIs of their preferred gender, I guess we're getting more than 6? That second proposition being the questionable link in the logic chain.

Oh God, I feel terrible because this makes me really excited.   I mean, I'm a little concerned that Cullen isn't into qunari, but I can deal with that. (Ashtal is bound to no man--and debating with the Iron Bull could be fun. Or Varric! Qunari/Varric fanart is adorable.) I would say this almost confirms that Varric and the Iron Bull are also LI.

 

([PONDERS ABOUT BACK-UP CHARACTERS] Female mage? Oooh, that one Dalish elf mage who despises humans but falls for Cullen anyway. She could be my character. Have to change canons around, though. FLEXIBILITY.)

 

Something that goes in the favor of Cullen being open to all races and genders is that he's a NPC romance (probably). Could be in our favor. Still, he's definitely up for female humans and elves.

For me, restrictions breeds creativity. I know it's not like that for everyone, so I feel bad for those people, even while I'm excited for the characters that I'll be creating to see all the different possibilities. That Dragon Age Keep better work perfectly. AND there had better not being a character limit on the PS4 this time around, or I'm going to be so flipping... ticked.

I have to agree. While I have no companions I dislike and have enjoyed them all, this is the first time I'm majorly indecisive on who I want my canon Inquisitor to romance and who I will be dragging out on missions with me.

They do seem more interesting than our past companions, I can't wait to learn about them all.

They're all whooping DA2's companions for me. I never really gelled with them other than Varric, Aveline and Isabela and even then Varric lead the pack by a country mile lol

They've never said that, they've said we're getting the most LI's out of any Dragon Age game and that's it (so, 6, which most people deduced to a 2/2/2).

Hmm. If there are race restrictions I'd say the chances of more than 3 LI per gender increased.

They've never said that, they've said we're getting the most LI's out of any Dragon Age game and that's it (so, 6, which most people deduced to a 2/2/2).

Gaider has said (repeatedly, I believe) something to the effect of wanting everyone to have "a choice", contrasting it to DAO where only straight people had a choice. Of course, that could refer to gender only, i.e. one could always "choose" to play as a race that will have multiple options.

Might be. Hmm maybe Varric could be dwarf only and Iron Bull qunari only romance? I can't think other character who would have race restictions.. or if its not no dwarfs and no qunaris : /. Since elf and human pairs seem to be rather normal in Thedas and Cullen already liked fem!Surana so I doubt there is those between Elves and Humans.
