I think it would be about the fact that announcing someone as anything other than bi is saying to some fans who'd been hoping to romance them, "Nope! Not for you." So you're still proud of the character and everything, but there's a sad part too because not everybody wins, so you just can't be as enthusiastic about it without worrying that you're rubbing it in for someone. Announcing them as gay also has that problem, but with the mitigating fact that the character in question is only for a group of people who don't usually get things only for them in mass-marked video games. (The latter is also true of straight women, of course, but...)
And there will be a reaction from fans when these announcements are made. Look what happened to the Sera thread, people were in there raging because they were so disappointed they wouldn't be able to romance her as their preferred Inquisitor, I think it was even closed at one point? They will never be able to make everyone happy. I have always played as a female protagonist and if it was released that Cullen was gay, sure I'd be a little disappointed but it would push me to make my first ever male character so I could have him as my LI
