Man just finally finished watching that PAX panel footage. Gah, all the good parts were missing! I hope someone posts the whole thing soon. (no offense to the person who blessfully shared with us, but I wants MOAR!).

I like the responsiveness of the banter to the environment... which also makes me sad that Cullen might miss out on that. But still cool!!

Well they've always said that they wouldn't let us just romance whoever we want for the sake of it, so there's obviously a good solid reason for him to be a romance option. Plus, anyone who has been romanceable in the past have all been of some importance even if you could kill them off, so it sounds like we'll have a lot of interaction with him, even if he isn't a companion.

Exactly.  :D

I guess if you think about it, we won't be able to have conversations just anywhere we want anymore anyway, so already it's not like we'll be missing out on much. Sounds like most of the decent convos will occur back at base anyway.

This is also true. They said there'd be a type of conversation that would occur in the world, but I bet you could make something akin to it happen within the Keep itself for an NPC romance. Really, I don't see why an NPC romance can't be just as fulfilling as a companion romance. AND! Companion banter could be accomplished by having the companions interact with one another inside the Keep.

I wish I could like this several more times. All this speculation is natural, especially given how this week has gone in Cullen news. But the assumption that this supposed Grey Warden that we haven't seen in ANYTHING in, what, nearly a year? is a definite companion seems odd to me.

IF we are going to speculate, I think it would be a pretty easy stretch to see Cullen as companion over anyone that hasn't explicitly been named, simply *because* he's been outed as a love interest.

That aside, I am just super happy he's going to be in the game, and right this second, I am more interested in seeing how amazing he looks than I am in random possibilities. We already have way more than I expected. :D

Disclaimer: I'm not saying don't speculate, or anything like that-I am just giving my own two coppers. :D

Yeah, I see what  you mean. But on the other hand, we've already seen the guy in live footage in our party; in contrast to Iron Bull, for example, who we've only see in concept art. Basically, just too many question marks at this point.

Ah, good point.

Another way to look at it is that in DA2 we had no interaction with the companions beyond the small handful of times when we had to visit their home hubs to chat with them, usually at the begin and end of each act, so if Cullen is a romanceable NPC then we're already used to it anyway, plus the devs said that in DAI they're going back to a more investigative conversation based way of interacting with your companions, so already we know his romance will be better than what we had in DA2.

Already at page fifteen? You guys are fast.

I'm not ready to give up Cullen as a companion quite yet. I'll believe it until someone at BW confirms otherwise.

I am waiting for Friday, see if he comes up as the *new* companion in follower friday.

I'd presume that the conversations that happen out in the world will be akin to the ones that would randomly occur in DA2, for example if you took Fenris to the Gallows for the first time a conversation would trigger.

D'awww! I was just listening to it again... thinking, DAYAM, I wish that was Nathaniel Howe.

You know what I want for Nathaniel Howe? (to randomly throw odd sh!t out there. *grin*) I want him to be Commander of the Grey in Ferelden. That's what I'd love. :D

That's true. If they can really accomplish what they tried to achieve in DA2, that the LIs have lives of their own when they're not with you, then it could work rather well. Finish a quest, run home to snuggle with your honey, recharge the batteries, then head back out into the field for more conquering/adventuring/discovering.

After reading through a bunch of different Cullen based threads, I feel like it would make more sense to have him be an advisor...that being said perhaps that also means we will get 6 LIs instead of 4? Scribe girl? :3

It could be that, but he could also just be an extra 5th romance, like Sebastian was in DA2.

That's what I was thinking, like back in DAA.

Honestly, the more I talk about it, the more okay I am with an NPC romance with Cullen. (Unless Cullen isn't that important, but that's it's own issue, honestly. )

That would be awesome! I wish he wasn't so dead in so many playthroughs (like mine, *shakes fist at import bugs*) so that it could be a big quest to see him again and find out more about his trip to the Deep Roads.

Exactly. That was my basic point. I'm making myself nervous just *reading* all the speculation. *grin*

Yeah, it's tough. Realistically there may only be four truly BW confirmed companions (cass, varr, viv,IB), maybe five (solas).

Who? Cullen? Pretty sure he's a man...

. I was referring to the Follower Friday announcement this month.

There are certainly benefits to him being a romanceable npc. For starters, we'll be more inclined to mix our party up more frequently without having to worry that not bringing him along might mean we miss something, we'll probably get away with doing a few minor things that he wouldn't agree with and not have to worry about sacrificing any of his approval...

... That's all I can think of right now for positives right now, lol.

Ohhhhhh. That makes like 50x more sense than transgender Cullen.

So, if Cullen is an NPC, who would you want for the next Follower Friday? (Since I'm assuming most of us would want Cullen)

*stalking through the keep* "Where the hell is Cullen?" Oh, there he is... finishing up a grocery run so he can cook you a hot meal when you get home. lol

Whatever his romance is like, I hope there's no 'healing with love/sex' trope that happens. Supporting him is one thing, healing him with magical sex is completely different.

Seeing we're dealing with older characters, though. I'm hoping for a... more mature romance? It's kind of difficult to describe what I mean. *scratches chin*

I hope they don't do a complete 100% Anders on him!

Although having said that, I guess we know so little about Cullen so far from the past two games, he's basically a blank slate for the writer who's writing him. Which is a good thing, I hope!

So IB is a warrior then? Darn.

I was hoping he was some sort of rogue/warrior hybrid. Watching him backstab people with that giant sword would be wonderful.

I'd like IB or Sera. Though I suspect we'll get Solas.

With all this Cullen confirmation and talk, I'd like to finally see a screenshot of him. Solas would make much more sense though, poor guy hasn't gotten a hi-res shot of him released yet.

That is so true! I always take my chosen LI with me everywhere, to the detriment of party composition.

I think we'd need to know more about how approval works, before calling that a positive.  It could be like Wynne and the Ashes quest, and everyone on your party is a blasted gossip.

Other positives...

He'll probably have very nice, unique armor.  :D

And this thread moves too fast!

I'm exactly the same. IB so I can gauge romanceability, (I'm shallow like that), and Sera so I can better imagine how my own Inquisitor will look. I wouldn't mind knowing more about Solas, but at the end of the day, I find the other two much more interesting. Personality wise and visually.
