On the subject of the romances...
I have know problem with them being preset to certain restrictions. I think it's more challenging and a bit more realistic, not to mention, forces you to go back and play as different characters, which is neat.
Realistic, what I mean by this is lets say, this chick totally digs this dude. But said dude isn't into girls. Happens in real life all the time and vise versa. So why not have that type of real setting in a game. Sure you can play however you want, but just like in real life you can't always get what you want.
Now I know it's just a game, and everyone wants everything the way they want it. But what I think Bioware is going for isn't really a game in a fantasy setting. But an actual world in a fantasy setting. And that makes it more 'real' for the players. Lots of people go to games to escape the real world. But I think it's nice that they're making this world a fantasy setting, but with real problems and with real life situations.
Again, that's just me....
I guess I don't really see the challenge? A challenge would be working through your issues with someone with a lot of patience and conversation, to me. Not just creating a different character to fit the NPC's specs. To me that's not work, that's just showing up in a different outfit. ![]()
I also don't really get the real world comparison. In the real world I'm not limited to only ever dating maybe five other people who are also judging me by a list of fixed standards. The whole setup of a game is so artificial (that's not a criticism of Bioware, just inherent to what a game is) that it seems odd to try to belatedly inject more limitations into something that is already far more limited than its real-world equivalent. What works on a planet of billions of "potential LIs" doesn't have quite the same meaning in a world with probably fewer than ten. ![]()
For the record, I don't really want to be forced to play something. That seems pretty contradictory to me. I'm a grownup and will decide how to allocate my own recreation time. If the game merits future playthroughs, I'll do it, and if not I won't. Feeling like I'm being lured into it with gated content doesn't really work for me. I want the game to just... stand on its own.
I'm glad you shared your perspective. It's interesting and well thought-out. It's just very different from mine. ![]()
