Do you know if it's true that back when they actually made and wore those kind of things, they were made to look as frightening as possible? Because they wanted to frighten the oponent by using devil/ monster faces? I have to admit I'm not really sure if fear is the right word for what I feel when I look at that helm

Well, these helmets were for tournaments mostly. I'm not sure they have ever been used in real combat, and people who owned them were never simple soldiers. So I think it was just a typical case of dudes showing off 
Maybe Cullen loves to show off? He never had the opportunity before, but now he's like, "Hell yeah! I wanna be a lion!"
Well,my inner history nerd is itching me to give you a detailed description about to whom this helmet belonged to etc...Which I won't do, fortunately. Still good work in finding this very nice example.
