This post from Allan may be of interest to people wanting to romance Cullen with a mage character:
http://forum.bioware...8#entry16762150 (all the way at the bottom, after the race-related stuff)
It's a slightly mixed message when it comes to mages and it's not definitive, but overall it seems like a positive
That is very good news!! I am very happy for you!
To put this in context lest anything get out of hand: Allan has been making pretty clear that he doesn't actually know all the specifics of who is romanceable by whom, so I don't think this should be taken as official confirmation of anything.
That said, the fact that he doesn't know of it does seem significant because it suggests it's at least not a major factor, which is a positive sign for us. ![]()
I didn't want what I quoted to be taken as a stronger statement than what was probably intended by Allan.
Hello Cullenites! I'm new to the forums and pretty new to DA, too. I've just played through Origins, Awakening and DA:2, and no matter what I play or watch I always end up totally intrigued by a minor character and end up obsessing. Hoping I'll fit in here, totally looking forward to DA:I and more Cullen.
Question... Is there a possibility that Cullen is no longer a Templar in Inquisition? His armour and outfits shown thus far aren't exactly Templar issue are they? Or maybe I just haven't seen enough pictures, or perhaps his look has simply been updated. We think he's the military advisor for the Inquisitor, correct? Anyhow, just something to ponder... Has it been discussed before maybe? Anyhow, happy to be here.
Welcome!

Re: Lyrium.
In DAO Alistair says that he's never been given lyrium. Not that he stopped taking it when he joined the Grey Wardens. Was it retconned? Or this is a plot hole now? Or maybe it means Alistair had some magic of his own?
Also, I think one of the epilogue screens in DAO said that after Greagoir retired from the templars, his health started to fail, and he refused the treatment and died? I wonder if lyrium caused it.

Nawwww, I'll get right on to that. Anything you'd like in-particular??

If I remember correctly, Templar recruits weren't given lyrium and he was recruited by Duncan before he undertook his full Knighthood.....?

If this were a perfect world, Cullen practicing swordplay shirtless. But I'll take a cuddly Cullen

Welcome to the thread!
They haven't directly confirmed it yet, but they've heavily hinted (and it's pretty obvious) that he's the military advisor for the Inquisition. What that means is that (at least for the time being) he's not part of the Templar Order. "Whatever we were before, we are now the Inquisition".
Now, this is where it gets interesting, the devs confirmed over E3 that the Divine gets killed at the peace gathering when the explosion happens that tears the veil open, which leads Cassandra to take it upon herself to do a little research and finds a loophole in the Chantry lore so that she can bring back the Inquisition, which was apparently the Divine's plan B. Now, we know that the 3 advisors are the "pillars" of the Inquisition, each advisor representing a different aspect within it, which means that Cullen must have either remained Divine Loyal and not rebelled with the other Templars, or at the very least had refused to rebel and started up his own militant group, which Cassandra or our Inquisitor later recruits to join our cause. So technically he's not a Templar anymore the minute he joins the Inquisition (if he even was at the time).
To speculate for a moment, (to me) the situation surrounding Cullen's militant facet sounds like the Divine had purposely given Leliana, Cullen and "Scribbles" their own factions. This may have been something she done because she wanted each of them to use their skills to help bring peace back to Thedas whilst she dealt with all the peace meetings and stuff like that, OR she may have given them these factions as a safety net should things go t!ts up (which it inevitably does) knowing that if "plan B" was needed then the Inquisition would automatically have a good solid foundation to grow from.
Personally, I like the latter theory the best. I like to imagine that the Divine knew she was gonna get killed (maybe as a premonition or a gut feeling) which is why she'd been silently setting things in motion for "plan B" all along.
Just wanted to give a warm welcome to our new comrades.

@Galagraphia: retconnetted in the comics. He said that he had to use lyrium 'again' to use his abilities. Gaider said a templar can still use his abilities for a long time if he stops using lyrium though.
The major problems is that he'd have been addicted in DAO.
Ok, I've checked the comics again, and he doesn't say anything about lyrium. He uses some templar trick on Aurelian Titus, and Isabela asks him what it was, and he says: "I used to be a templar -- fighting mages is what we do. After the Tellari swamps, I thought I'd get back in practice." Is there anything else?

Didn't DG also say that Alistair had been taking lyrium because his Templar skills (with the smiting and stuff) would only last as long as he was taking it? Which basically means they decided that he'd lied to the Warden about ever taking lyrium, LOL! ![]()

Son of a witch!
Alistair never loved me!
I'm glad my warden dumped him. What a lying piece of cheese!
Well, in that case I really don't think Cullen will ever want to quit.
Speaking of the Divine getting killed, Leliana must be absolutely gutted! I mean, when Leliana met her she was still Dorothea the Revered Mother and she'd helped save her, so not only had they been friends for years but she'd been working along side her after Dorothea was elected to be the next Divine... that's gonna really mess her up! It's no wonder she's so bloody angry in that trailer demo!
I suspect my Inquisitor is gonna need to have a few heart-to-hearts with her to help her through this situation, lol.

Lol, I don't think the writers will ever take Cullen off lyrium. If you think about it, the devs like to keep some form of "angst" in the relationships even after you've successfully wooed them. Knowing that Cullen is basically an addict who will eventually succumb to the effects of lyrium is the price we'll have to pay for romancing him.
Now imagine that Leli also loved the Warden (not that I believe it myself, only the dog loved the Warden), and the Warden went to their Calling. All the feelsuh!

.......WHYYYYYYYYY! Haha, the more I think about it the more unlikely it would be that he'd quite lyrium. Especially if he stayed under the hand of the Divine and continued to work closely with her after the Templar Order defected form the Chantry, he would still be taking it if that was the case. I'm sure they'd have a whole cellar stock piled to bursting of lyrium. Why do I find that word so daunting? I don't think my rogue Inquisitor is going to be too happy with his reliance upon it, but my mage would be more likely to understand since she would have to take lyrium herself when needed.
EDIT: The word being lyrium
I was told he said he had to take lyrium again. Sorry for yen confusion. Though as Lola said, Gaider confirmed himself how lyrium works and that Alistair took it before.Ok, I've checked the comics again, and he doesn't say anything about lyrium. The Dwarves traded through the Chantry and the Chantry controlled the lyrium supply, so I guess it depends if the Dwarves felt it more profitable to continue trading through the Chantry, or felt they could charge more to the desperate rebel Templars running the risk of going into lyrium withdrawal... I suspect I know what they'd choose, LOL!
It could be that Cullen is the one struggling to get his regular lyrium fix... not to worry though, my Inquisitor is a mage so he can use hers.
I'm so happy!
When I typed Lt. Kurin I so had Forest gumps voice saying it in my head ![]()

Oh the Dwarve's would totally stick with trading with the Chantry, they are loyal like that and not at all concerned with how much more gold they could be getting................ right ![]()
Just as long as he never touches that red sh!t I think I will be fine............... I'm almost feel like I'm saying "Oh, you can keep smoking the pot all the time just as long as you stay away from the heroine." ![]()
