Yeah, you could definitely make it work, in Cullen's case anyway.  i figure Greagoir did in fact send him to Greenfell, then quietly arranged for him to go to Kirkwall in the meantime.  Still doesn't really explain the Anders thing.

It definitely sounds like the sensible thing to do. Also, in the Witch Hunt dlc "Hadley" the dude in charge whilst Greagoir was away said that he was on business in Denerim... do we know why Greagoir would have been there? I can't recall if something happened in-game that I'm forgetting that would require them to travel out there.

Wasn't Cullen included in DA2 after they had already started making the game as an afterthought? Like, there was another random old guy but then they decided to make him Cullen for some unknown reason (that I am totally not going to question just accept with a big smile) I wonder, do you guys think Cullen was always planned to be an advisor? They said in a few interviews (Twitch I think for E3) that they started working on Inquisition around the time that Origin was launched.

good questions. Personally, I think the old dude was just a placeholder head, while they created his morph for the game. Placeholder head is even still in the mor files for the game, with a generic templar file name. So I would expect that Cullen was always planned for DA2. His role at the Gallows just fits with his history so well.

On DA:I, I dunno. I have no idea how/when they decided on this advisor business. I'd like think that they had Cullen in a list of potential companions, ran out of room, and started to think of ways they could shoe horn him in. So created advisors. BECAUSE HE IS JUST THAT AWESOME!

I don't recall anything mentioned in game. But I sure would expect he'd have some 'splaining to do to the Grand Cleric after what happened with Uldred.

At first I thought maybe Cullen's big inclusion was brought in due to the extra year, but then I remember that he was also in the survey leak so they must have had something noteworthy planned for him.

or they were just considering him along with all the others in that survey, since it was just a marketing test, no? Maybe the response to him as companion was a big N O.

I'm not sure if he was ever a companion candidate. Scribe girl was in the leak also, and both she and Cullen are not carrying weapons in their concept art. They don't have any character descriptions either in the leak, so maybe there was a bit in the survey about advisors that we didn't get to see, that showed images of the other companions that were mentioned like Iron Bull and Cole.

Perhaps the advisors were always part of the plan, then?

Could be, but then who knows which parts were decided versus what they wanted feedback on. For ex, Blackwall also didn't have a char blurb. But then they'd already showed us his concept art. So maybe he was a done deal. Like Cassandra. I doubt they'll ever tell us.

It is a pretty big addition. Maybe it does make sense that they would have had to decide that early on.

So... I guess everyone we saw or read about made it into the game it seems? (Although I suppose Cole still hasn't been confirmed... I can't believe I really *do* keep forgetting about him :P )

I'd need to look over the survey leak again, but I believe so.

Aha! From the German version of the survey leak:

"Take the Inquisitor's cloak and lead the only force able of bringing light into the darkness. Choose the direct method and gather your armies, send spies into the shadows or engage in a political war, make friends and use your connections indirectly: it is up to you how you lead the inquisition. But you'll have to take lead of it from the beginning. Make your player a rogue, warrior or mage and set up your crew from up to ten (!) complex companions to lead them against those who attack you by systematically spying on, revealing and destroying them."

Looks like our advisors were always there!

A bit late, but I don't think a couple of gossiping people are a reliable source for information. So I always take stuff like that with a grain of salt. It's a bit different to hearing info from, say, a companion compared to do people having a yarn as you walk by.

OMG the survey already mentions the three pillars!

http://forum.bioware...-think-we-know/

"A portal between the worlds unleashes hordes of demons in the land, civil
wars rip apart nations and the corruption is limitless. Someone is behind the
shadows, drawing the threads which destroy the world. Time has come for the
Inquisition.

Take the Inquisitor's cloak and lead the only force able of bringing light into
the darkness. Choose the direct method and gather your armies, send spies into
the shadows or engage in a political war,
make friends and use your connections
indirectly: it is up to you how you lead the inquisition. But you'll have to
take lead of it from the beginning. Make your player a rogue, warrior or mage
and set up your crew from up to ten complex companions to lead them against
those who attack you by systematically spying on, revealing and destroying them."

Nope, he's in his early to mid 30's at the most, lol.

Oh, lol, cause i thought if he was 24 at the time of origins, by the time inquisition takes place which is roughly 13 years later, shouldn't he be about 37? Unless inquisition takes place 10 and not 13, in which case I calculated wrongly. ^_^;

The toolset ages were just a guideline for the VOs when they were doing the dialogue, they aren't accurate. His DAI face model is based on the age group of late 20's to mid-30's at a push.

it's only 10 years later, as far as we know. Game seems to start to in 9:40.

I personally wouldn't have anything against that boy being mid to late thirties. I like older boys.

And I find age differences adorable when they're not creepy. I also find height differences adorable.

Well, older than me and potentially a couple of my Inquisitors if the age is ambiguous. I don't count it as old, though.

Ok, I'll tell you how I know his DAI model is based on late 20's to early 30's. It's fine for me to talk about it now since Cameron Lee mentioned it in the interview with MD anyway.

So basically, last year when I went to see that first demo in London (the one they showed at PAX Prime a few days later) I met up with Cameron there and because I was already under an NDA I was allowed to ask a bunch of questions. Obviously I can't tell you anything that hasn't already been revealed, but in regards to Cullen's face model I asked him if they'd made Cullen hot and to make sure that they fixed his face if they'd hit him with the ugly stick, which is when he told me about a piece of concept art they'd come up with for Cullen that made him look really old and beat up, I guess kinda like Zaeed from Mass Effect. Of course, this outraged a bunch of his fans working in the BioWare offices, so they had to go back to the artists with some examples of men within Cullen's age group late 20's to mid 30's at a push (his words, not mine), his DA2 model and a bunch of other ideas to make him look how he's supposed to. What we'll see from Cullen in DAI is the result of that.
