I think it was just a stylistic choice? Possibly.
This is also my thought, because you actually several multiple "official" versions of the templar sword of mercy symbol even within DA2.

It was only DA2 he was written by Jennifer Hepler. In DAO he was written by Sheryl Chee. But she's confirmed she's not writing him for Inquisition.
Hmm it will be intresting to see who writes him in DAI and what way his character will go in hands of this new writer ^^
You're right, it did. Hmm. Surprisingly, I think this says a lot for his initial inclusion... but like you said, things could always have changed.
In any case, we are JUST speculating, making conversation, not spreading misinformation... it's how we do
And if Cullen was the character to be rewritten, then they could have altered his inclusion in the game to an extent, possibly including the fact that he was a companion at one point.
I always like to clarify, because people on this forum takes things like this and run. Speculation is fun! Virulent misinformation... not so much.
I've only ever fallen for Gaider romances so it'll be interesting for me if he didn't. xD
I hate to hear that she left though. Even for the short amount of time we got to spend with him in both games, he was so well written.
Actually, he had different writers for DAO and DA2.
It's pretty awesome that he doesn't feel like different characters because of it.

*snipped all the templar things*
So, it really does seem to change depending on style, and maybe time? Hmmm. Ok, so it will matter less, lore-wise, which is nice.
Thank you!
Thank you~ Even if I end up not commenting much (I'm shy. It can't be helped. lol) I love reading the discussions that go on.
Also, that shortbread pic.
No, stay delurked! We love new Cullenites!
If Cullen was the one that was completely rewritten from the ground up, it make sense, since I could imagine it would be a challenge to try and mesh his rather repressed DAO and DA2 personality, with his more raunchier, steamier LI self in Inquisition. From what's been said, hopefully his romance arc would be getting him to shed some of his hang-ups and drop his guard.
I can imagine him being similar to Morrigan in that way, since she was also rather closed off and it took quite a lot of work before she really opened up and displayed some raw emotion with the Warden. Similarly, Isabela in DA2 was about getting past her defences and admitting she had developed genuine feelings for Hawke.
If we get something similar with Cullen, it'll be an amazing arc.
As for the Templar logo, I prefer the sword facing up myself, as a shining light for the people. The sword pointing down seems more oppressive to me.
Patrick Weekes joined the team, didn't he? So many awesome writers. I loved his work in ME. I usually worry about characters switching hands but not this time.

That needs to be added to our signatures, I think. *Snicker* To remind people that we don't know more than anyone else, we just enjoy conjecture. *grin*

It's a Follower that got re-written.
I could see Cullen being the re-write because I imagine Ms. Hepler would have been his writer for DA:I like she was for DA2, and, with things changing after she left (like races and all!) he needed a re-write.

Shame on me for not knowing that. lol I'm sitting here thinking that now though. I really didn't notice and that's the best thing ever. I blame Greg's voice for me not paying attention to the writer bit. *cough*

I will do my best to try and be interesting. No promises though. xD

LOL There's no 'interesting' requirement (thank the Maker!), just good will!
So he did a rewrite of a follower from top to bottom, and he also got to write a follower he's been itching to write for 15 years.
Somehow I don't think Cass is the one he's been itching to write (but you never know), so she could be the rewrite.
If she's not the rewrite, that could mean he wrote three followers ![]()
Darn, finally found it only to find I've been ninja'd for a while now. But yay! It was a follower! More support for the CCC?

I don't think Cass is re-write since Gaider wrote her in DA2 too?
It's possible. He wrote Morrigan, Alistair and Zevran in DAO.So he did a rewrite of a follower from top to bottom, and he also got to write a follower he's been itching to write for 15 years.

My gut tells me that we would never be so lucky as to have DG write a Cullen romance for us. But maybe that's because I've overanalyzed the Tonia-as-writer evidence far too much. Hepler did once tell a fan, not long after DA2 came out, that we would hear more on Cullen, but that she wasn't privy to the details since she was on leave. For some reason, it always made me feel like she wasn't writing him, but that was also a long time ago (prob a year before GE's first sneaky VO tweet).

Yup I think this too ^^ It'd be cool!

Oooh. I didn't know that about Ms. Hepler!
Admittedly I don't know much, if anything, about Tonia, actually. ^^;
Well, DA: Origins was released in '09 and he has always liked Cullen. Maybe he finally gets the chance to do so?
Plus I'm in the same bandwagon as some, hoping that the Grey Warden with the fluffy beard from the Anderfel's Alistair mentions in Origins, Gregor, is the one from the concept art and Gaider finally gets to do something with him.
