Definitely, and I definitely don't want to be rude to him after getting to know him (I couldn't ship him with anyone who's the slightest bit unkind). I just mean it's going to be hard not defaulting to liking him, since all my fondness for him is based on knowledge from DAO and DA2 that my Inquisitor won't have.

Didn't they also say it was partly based on how much you interacted with them over time, to give a more organic feel? That definitely won't be a problem in any of my playthroughs, thanks to that voice

Does he/the desire demon say that his vows won't let him directly? I can't recall. Tbh, I think they were supposed to originally be celibate and then they retconned it.

I'm really hoping the romances don't require you to be nice to / trustful of them from the start. My Inquisitor is going to be a mage with a self-insert personality and depending on what they tell us about our mage's background and whether they tell us right away that Cullen is/was a templar, when he shows up my most likely process is going to be
1. look at the TV and say "CULLEN! There you are!!!! Aoife Trevelyan almost definitely loves you but this is metagame knowledge and therefore inadmissible"
2. choose something really snide about the Circle to say to him on the dialogue wheel
 
Which is going to be hard. I'm probably going to have to save, reload the previous save, pick the nicest option they have or the "hit on this person immediately" option, and then go back to the first save.

I will fall off the couch in excitement when he shows up. And with the self input play im planning I don't trust either side to be honest but I lean more towards the mage side and with Templars going all red lyrium on use. I am hoping he can give me a new insight to the Templar order that will make it difficult on which side to choose.

To be fair, it's hard to judge him. Why someone joins the Templars may vary: Some may have joined because they were devote Andrastate's, other's may have joined because they believed they were heroically protecting people from "the scary mages", other's may have been forced to join the Order by their family's (like Alistair), and some might have done it so that they'd be an a position to abuse their power for personal benefit (I assume this was Alrik's reason), but once their in then they're in for life (thanks to the Lyrium addiction). There's also a difference between being able to sleep with someone (which is ok for the Templars) and having a family (which is forbidden). That Templar didn't just want a booty call or even a wife, what he wanted was a family. He wanted to be a father and raise children with a wife and it caused him to be bitter in his duty. The demon even mention's that he wasn't consciously aware of this desire and that it was buried in his heart. That hardly makes him pathetic, just human.

I know what you mean. Like, If he says something unkind about mages initially (as an example), I'd be inclined to take an understanding/nicer approach because I know his backstory and how bad he's had it, whereas if he'd been an unknown character (especially as I'll be playing as myself) my natural reaction would be to be rude back, lol.

This is what I look forward to the most for the romance progression. So many times did I have to decide early on who to romance and then always agree with them and never do/say anything they don't like. It's not healthy

Have I not been blinded by my love for the Awakening character, I would have never let my Hawke go for that guy, because there were signs, and I overlooked them.

I hope Cullen won't test my faith in BioWare love interests like that I'll be seriously trying to role-play an interesting relationship if the game allows it.

I guess it's like when Cullen says "the one thing I always wanted but can/could never have". Back then I think it may have supposed to be partly in reference to the vow of chastity and not just Amell/Surana (if at all), which is obviously now retconned.

It just isn't normal, is it ? My fiance and I argue all the time, if I take one side of an argument, he'll take the other for the fun of it I'd get bored of him very quickly if he didn't make me work for my opinions and victories

For some reason, I can see him not really wanting a family right now anyways. Too much going on and he's very dedicated. I can see him starting a relationship, but making it clear that the situation and the inquisition will cone first. Which, really I can't blame him.

The only way I see him diving into marriage at this moment would be to solve some kind of conflict. Something along those lines, at least until everything is resolved.

If the Order is saved, I wonder if depending on your in game choices, if he will decide to go back to the order, you know...to help rebuild it. Maybe make it better or whatever. It would suck if he choses that over our Quizzy!

I think if I discover that Cullen wants to go back to the order eventually, I will do everything I can to make sure the order can NEVER be restored, just so my Quizzy can keep her love  Don't worry, Quizzy, mama's watching over you and pulling the right strings.
