What kind of culture shock do y'all think people might experience when they leave the Circle? Like for Cullen, or even for any other Templar or mage who might escape. I was just thinking about how insular of a community they're in. I would imagine that the culture there would be very different from most of Ferelden, since none of them have grown up out there in the real world. Do they have holidays? I always think of the people there as really socially repressed, too, unable to really share their emotions, thoughts, and ideals. And everyone is dressed head to toe in armor or cloth. Would they then see the real world where people do what they want and live their own lives (and wear PANTS) and be unable to adjust?

Well, for many mages, I think they'd regret their decision; their quality of life is equal to minor nobles. And, let's not forget, the circle tower had mage powered lighting and AC. I could never rebel in real life.

For Tempalrs, I would assume it would be like the military. I knew of a blogger who joined the Airforce, and after her four years she said readjusting to society is very difficult. She was so used to a set schedule and discipline, and then to return to a very relaxed way of life was a shock.
For mages, I doubt they're all totally ignorant of the outside world, but "common sense" may be lacking until they adapt. They may not know how to haggle, for instance; or even know what the rain or sunshine feels like. Maybe even grass. So, their first trip outside may also be quite the shock. Plus, they are in such an intimate environment, perhaps they are used to being in close proximity to people, and personal space is a foreign concept.
And a mage could be very used to having everything provided for them. I imagine the mage!warden was in shock when they found out they had to buy food and supplies constantly.
Mage: You mean I have to buy everything?!
Alistair: How else are we going to get food and armor?
Mage: But...isn't everything just dispersed throughout the community?
Alistair: Perhaps in the Circle, but not out here.
Mage: That is...*scoffs* That is just ridiculous. Everything I could ever want was in the Circle, alright, we didn't have to buy anything it was just...it was just there!
Alistair: Well those who provided it had clinky glinty gold to buy it.
Mage: ...
Alistair: ...You're not joking about this, are you? You're actually serious! You don't know how to buy things?!
Mage: Next you'll be telling me there's a weight limit to what I can carry.

Now you made me think of Emile de Launcet and how badly adjusted he was towards society (and common flirt). That guy was a totally mess

There's a scene in Asunder that I thought was significant, per this question:
To me, a mage or a Templar raised up by the chantry lives a very insular life. It leaves them innocent or naïve about many of the hardships that most people simply take for granted. Something as simple as finding or gathering foodstuffs, for instance. Wynne had that ability, to better blend into the matrix of ordinary life, thanks to her regular motions throughout Thedas. But her experience is rare. Outside the unique community that the circle becomes, I think most mages and Templars who lead such a isolate routine would flounder.

I think I'd hate to leave, personally. I'm not sure why Anders was so dead set. You've always got a meal, a warm bed, and a friend to talk to... surely out of the hundreds in there, one wouldn't mind you so much. lol I'm with you!

I wonder how often templars really do move from one "station" to another, like Kinloch to Kirkwall. I would imagine that kind of transition would be harder, since they're mostly indoors in Kinloch and seemly outdoors more in Kirkwall. So completely sheltered in one and maybe not so much in the other?
Oh gosh, Uncomfortably Close Magelings! That's a great point. I could see them now, awkwardly standing right up in everyone's business. "How are you today? *sniff sniff* You smell good. Not like books. I'm used to everyone smelling like books."

Guys, I know I've brought this up before, but my post was lost in the excitement of E3. Also it might have been already brought up (this thread moves like bloody lightening!). I'm not sure how popular Hawke's dagger is, but the one they pull out during cut scenes is the same one as the one that's held against Leliana's throat in one of the trailers. Are Bioware just doing weapon cameos fir these things? I don't think I've seen one of them in the trailers before, thought I could be mistaken.

Yeah, it certainly LOOKS like the Dialogue Murder Dagger. I loved those playthroughs of the first games.

I don't know, honestly. The "murder knife" has been around since Origins, but I don't ever pay attention to how it looks. (I'm assuming that it's just "random knife_01" ).
But, I don't actually know, to be honest. I'm assuming it's cameos, like using flashy weapons that people recognize, on purpose.

I think they're just reusing weapons. Iron Bull is using Hayders Razor and Dorian is using the Staff of Violation.

I think they are using weapons and shields from DAII (specially from the DLC) in the demos and trailers.

I'd honestly be shocked if we *don't* see the murder knife in the next game. That's a cameo that's almost a given. I didn't catch it in the trailer myself, tho.
The venatori that tortured Leliana at the end of the Xbox trialer had it.

I've started to sketch Cullen having a chat with Blackwall in front of a pint. I don't know...I think they could get along well.
Yup I can really picture these two getting along really well. I'm hoping we get to see something similar to this in game.
