Wait, I'm confused. I thought mages were allowed to go outside, just under strict supervision. Isn't that how Anders escaped one time? Due to a swimming lesson and he just continued swimming across the lake?

Yes, but if I remember right, his escape stopped that.

That's what throws me off. I can't find any references to them leaving the tower aside from Anders and the enchanters. Maybe Anders was the last non-enchanter to get to leave. And maybe he's why they can't, lol.

What about all the mages we see in other parties? There can't be THAT many full grown apostates.

It did. Finn said they were allowed outside to exercise but Anders made a break for it.

And I know in Kirkwall mages were allowed to go outside, but they were restricted to the courtyard made of freakin' stone. Stone! Imagine how hot it could get! :( And visitors were obviously allowed to come in and out to buy wares - it's like dangling a carrot in front of a rabbit confined to a cage its entire life.

Now you made me think of Emile de Launcet and how badly adjusted he was towards society (and common flirt). That guy was a totally mess .

That's a good point, I forgot about him! He was REALLY ignorant of everything - just trying to live. He was being stupid about it, of course.

Emile: Are you a mage, because you just mage-icked my breath away!

Varric: Can I kill him yet? He's hurting me.

Me: You and me both...

And I'm sure the stone courtyard visits weren't done during the rain or snow, since that means additional Templars would have to join them... ones who would probably prefer to not get soaked. Poor things.

I always sort of assumed it depended on the mage and how trustworthy they were considered, that maybe the default was to be restricted to the circle grounds but mages who had proved themselves might be able to earn more (supervised) freedom.

Different circles would also likely have different rules.

 I knew he would.  He's like that.  Such a great guy.

Edit: I freak out every time one of them just favorites a tweet.  Like, seriously...cloud 9 all day!

I know, it's really amazing that they do that. Just recently , Mika Simmons (Anora) favorited a couple of mine!  ^_^

"...The Circle has a very mixed reception among mages and non-mages alike. Despite the restrictions imposed on its members, it is not a system of slavery, and mages themselves—while not "free"—are not owned by the Chantry and not forced into servitude on its behalf. Nevertheless, due to the limitations on personal freedoms, such as the confinement of the mages in a Circle fortress indefinitely, the Circle is tantamount to a prison. By law each Circle is supposed to respect certain rights of the mages. However, ambiguity or inadequacy in regulations, a weak first enchanter failing to advocate a Circle's rights, and the local templars' or priesthoods' penchant for corruption and abuse can affect how much these laws will be respected..."

I agree. It seems to me that the Ferelden circle has looser rules. Granted, Wynne was a senior enchanter, but she was always off on some adventure, at least according to Irving. And then there was Ines who left Kinloch Hold for her gardening... erm... botony.

Bingo. Ferelden seems to be on the far more liberal side, while the Gallows and White Spire are much more conservative.

If BW puts Cullen's romantic past as one of the possible question on the Inquisitor's dialog wheel, would you refrain to ask him ?  ;)

As player, I'd pretty much ask Cullen anything I had the option to ask him because I'd like to learn as much about him as possible. His romantic past would not be high on the list of things I'm eager to know, though. I'd rather hear about things he was doing outside of the bedroom during the periods of his life we don't know about. ;) Given a limited word budget, spending some of it on his past romantic exploits or lack thereof (unless a specific situation was plot-relevant) seems like rather a waste.

My Inquisitor as a character wouldn't ask Cullen about his romantic past unless he brought up the subject himself and seemed to want to talk about it, because it wouldn't affect their relationship or how she felt about him.

Whatever Cullen's romantic past has been, or if he is indeed still a virgin, I'd rather the writers just not make a big thing of it. Cullen and presumably the Inquisitor too should be at an age where sex and who is or isn't having sex shouldn't be a mysterious big deal. I loved the innocence of the Alistair romance, but these characters are older and presumably more wise to the ways of the world. I'd like Cullen and the Inquisitor to be more matter-of-fact and for the writers to just gloss over it because it just doesn't seem important enough to dwell on whether Cullen had sex or a relationship in the past unless it affects the overall plot somehow.

While I agree, the White Spire still allowed mages to visit Val-Rouyeaux, and they allowed a mage and his apprentice to go in Tevinter.

Even Kirkwall had its lax points. For example, the big kerfuffle in Act Three (if I recall correctly?) over searching the mages' rooms took me by surprise because of course my immediate thought was, "You don't just do that routinely?" ;)

Don't know if I would call it lax, because the impression I got was the mages were confined to their cells - but since Meredith drank from the cup of insane juice, she was like "**** IT I WILL INVADE EVERYTHING BECAUSE BLOODMAGIC."

The wildlife conservation program has been highly successful, it seems.

Might be related to the Breach. The comics suggested a lot of dragons were sealed in the Fade.

You had to figure there was more than just Nevarra for nesting places... as we've seen at least a couple of times.

A blood Mage had taken blood out of a fossilized mosquito and used it to create dragons with the purpose of creating a dragon theme park in Tevinter.

And we see in the one instrumental trailer from E3 a dragon within the Fade at the end.

I'd bet a bunch were sealed away in the Fade, while Yavana and Flemeth helped a bunch escape, to hide within several of those Hall of Sleepers throughout the world.

Or maybe they did it to create mounts for the Krog... oops, wrong game!
